Here’s Sheet in Your Eye!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ In the new Peacock special “Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy”, the former U.S. attorney whose office opened the case speaks about the 5 people who have been charged in connection with Perry’s death. E. Martin Estrada, the former attorney for the Central District of California, claims: “These defendants should have known better. They were taking advantage of an individual, and letting their greed drive them to endanger Mr. Perry’s life.” Estrada notes that “the defendants have all been charged” and “three of them have pled guilty and will be co-operating.” Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy premieres today on Peacock.

★ Fox is turning back time with a new international pilot titled “Young Again”. The show comes from “The Masked Singer” creator Wonwoo Park and uses tech to de-age senior contestants — who then embark on dates as younger versions of themselves. Fox is currently marketing the idea, and looking for partners. The pilot was filmed with U.S. contestants in Australia, and the show could end up being being made in an international market first.

★ Meghan Markle has an “open invitation” to appear in the new “Suits” spinoff show, “Suits LA.” Show creator Aaron Korsh gushed about the possibility that the Duchess of Sussex could make a cameo while speaking at the new show’s premiere. He said: “We have thought about whether it be Meghan or any of the other cast members coming on and playing themselves as an actor…my brain blows up at the thought of that.” Korsh admitted that for the royal to make an appearance, it would require “an explosion of the fourth wall”, but said he’d find a way to make it happen. Quote: “If Meghan wants to come back under any circumstances, Meghan can come back.” Like the original series, “Suits LA” is a legal drama — but with a different cast.

★ Keanu Reeves has provided an update on the long-awaited “Constantine” sequel. Loosely based on DC’s Hellblazer comics, the 2005 thriller followed a cynical exorcist with the ability to travel to hell and back, and perceive the true appearance of half-angels and half-demons. Since the 2022 announcement that a sequel to the cult classic was in the works, details have been scarce, but Reeves just told Inverse they “recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, ‘Okay,’ So, we’re going to try and write a script.” Though he didn’t share info about the plot, he confirmed that the sequel is in “the same world” as the original movie, and joked that “John Constantine’s going to be tortured even more.”

★ “Survivor 48” premieres tomorrow, but at an advance screening in New York, host and showrunner Jeff Probst broke some big news about an eagerly anticipated future season: Fans will get to make the call when it comes to several key elements in the game. For “Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans”, which will begin filming in a few months and air in 2026, viewers will also be able to vote in a series of categories that will determine the course of what unfolds on the island. The first round of voting will commence during the Survivor 48 premiere tomorrow. Some of the decisions fans will be in charge of include: “Idols or No Idols,” “Final Four Fire Making: Keep It or Lose It” and “Live Finale and Reunion Show in L.A. – or Keep the Winner Reveal and Aftershow in the Jungles of Fiji.”

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Drake – Following the release of “Sexy Songs 4 U”, his new album with PartyNextDoor, some fans are begging him to make a country album. The new record mixes many genres, including pop and traditional Mexican music. But one of the highlights is ‘Die Trying’, which sounds like an alt-pop song that includes country elements. One fan responded on X, writing: “Drake country album so needed.”
• Rihanna – gave an update on her much-anticipated new album in a Harper’s BAZAAR‘s cover story. She debunked rumors it’ll be a reggae album, saying: “Way off! There’s no genre now. That’s why I waited. Every time, I was just like, ‘No, it’s not me. It’s not right…I cannot put up anything mediocre.” So, when’s it coming? “After waiting 8 years, you might as well just wait some more.”
• Justin Bieber — is among the stars who played in Sunday’s benefit hockey game at Crypto.com Arena to raise funds for those impacted by the LA wildfires. Also lacing up for “Skate for LA Strong” were Steve Carell and musician Ross Lynch. Snoop Dogg, Will Ferrell, Vince Vaughn, Danny DeVito and Cobie Smulders were coaches.
• Roberta Flack — The legendary pop/R&B vocalist, who was launched to stardom in the early ’70s by the Grammy-winning hits ‘The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face’ and ‘Killing Me Softly With His Song’, has died at age 88, her rep said. No cause of death was given.
• Disturbed – Frontman David Draiman wants the group to collaborate with Kendrick Lamar. He envisions creating this generation’s answer to the 1986 Aerosmith and Run-D.M.C. crossover ‘Walk This Way’ or 1991’s ‘Bring the Noise’, on which Anthrax worked with Public Enemy.
• Aerosmith — has shared a video recap of singer Steven Tyler’s 6th annual “Jam for Janie” Grammys viewing party, which was held Feb. 2 at the Hollywood Palladium. Tyler performed 6 songs at the event, joined by stars such as Extreme’s Nuno Bettencourt, Mick Fleetwood, Lainey Wilson, Jessie J, and Tom Hamilton of Aerosmith and Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes. LINK: https://youtu.be/JHparDiSsMA
• Jelly Roll – You might be surprised to find out that he’s a big fan of “Sex and the City”. His wife Bunnie Xo posted a TikTok vid of the family watching an episode, and Jelly looks totally engrossed. Bunnie says Jelly got into the show while she was introducing it to his teen daughter Bailee. Bunnie wrote: “Got the kid hooked on the show that raised me & apparently her dad too.”
• Carrie Underwood – caught the Nashville Predators’ home game against the Colorado Avalanche at Bridgestone Arena on Saturday. Her husband Mike Fisher played for the team from 2011-18. Later, Carrie posted a photo of her in front of a pic of Fisher in uniform, which is displayed on the wall of the venue. She wrote: “Congrats on the W, boys!”
• Sam Hunt — If there’s a song that’s like art imitating life for him, it’s his latest single ‘Country House’. He explained that it tells of how “We all moved from little small towns up to (Nashville) to make it in country music…and eventually, you want to get back to…something like what you grew up around…That’s kind of where I’m at with that song and in my life.”

SHOOTING THE BULL

ODD JOBS:
► A matchmaking service is “guaranteeing” that its customers will find true love – for a hefty price. LA-based “Three Day Rule”, with 14 locations in the US, has just introduced its Million Dollar Matchmaking program. That’s right: For a $1 million fee, very well-heeled singles can take part in the company’s intense 12-month program that basically manages every aspect of clients’ dating lives. Each coachable client has a recruiter who flies around the country visiting social clubs, bars, fitness clubs, and even scouting out airports in search of possible soulmates. And they’ll even throw in a 3-carat engagement ring if true love happens within 6 months. No word on what happens if you’re still single after a year. (You’re out a million bucks – THAT’S what!)
► A new startup wants to create genetically modified pets — that glow in the dark. The “Los Angeles Project” aims to create more desirable pets through genetic engineering, and has plans to create glow-in-the-dark hypoallergenic cats, dogs, and rabbits – and possibly, one day, actual unicorns. It’s the brainchild of biohacker Josie Zayner, who in 2017 injected herself with the gene-editing tool Crispr during a conference, and livestreamed it. Zayner says the Los Angeles Project is all about making animals that are “more complex and interesting and beautiful and unique” than the ones that currently exist. (If that doesn’t sound as awesome to you as it obviously does to them, they can probably also do up a snake or a spider, or something for you!)

BUT WHAT ‘FUR’?
It’s the item that you thought would never some back into style, but according to reports, younger consumers are on the hunt for…vintage fur. That’s right – after years in which animal fur has been pushed out of fashion, many style-savvy Gen Zers are flocking to secondhand stores – and posting their furry finds online. The rise in popularity of real fur is prompting some industry experts to predict it’s return as a fashion staple after decades of anti-fur activism. In fact, Daniel Wachtenheim, the vice president of Wachtenheim Furs, predicts that it’ll start showing up on fashion runways again “In a year or two”. A-listers spotted recently in fur (faux or not) include the Jenner sisters, Hailey Bieber, Jennifer Lopez, and Anya Taylor-Joy. A PETA spokesperson said that even though this renewed interest is based on vintage – or used – fur, “They should be just as disgusted at any fur ripped off the back of an animal.”
(So we’re bringing back fur, but we’re still leaving low-rise jeans in the past, right?)
(Fur on runways? It’s fashion week, not a wildlife documentary!)

GETTING SAUCED:
A Nova Scotia man ate nearly 1.5 kilograms (3.3lbs) of hot sauce in just 3 minutes at the Heatwave Hot Sauce Expo in London, Ontario on Saturday, to set a new world record. Mike Jack previously held the Guinness Record at 1.12kg, but because that mark had been beaten, he used the gathering of like-minded hot sauce aficionados for his latest exploit. Jack, who makes his living selling his brand of hot sauce, says the amount he consumed is equal to a 12-pack of the stuff. He’s been building up his tolerance to hot sauce for years, putting it on his food like most people would use ketchup. To qualify for the record, the sauce had to be in a bowl — and he wasn’t permitted to touch the bowl with his hands. Oh, and it had to be eaten using a…teaspoon. He now holds 19 Guinness World Records.
(20, if you count the one he set the next morning…)
(At this point, this guy’s sweat could probably season a whole taco!)

UNINNOVATIVE INVENTIONS:
February is “Innovation Month”. Here are some inventions that, while they certainly may have been innovative, they never really caught on. Any ideas why?
✗ Neck Brush: It kinda looked like a medieval torture device, but it was created in the 1950s to clean a child’s neck without the use of soap and water. The bristled collar was supposed to scrub the child’s neck clean while they played. (Yeah – scrub it raw…)
✗ Ostrich Pillow: Perfect if you want to catch a nap in public, but also want to look like an octopus alien! The user simply slips it over their head when they feel a nap attack coming on at work, the airport, or the library. Comes with holes for ventilation, and room for your hands, too. (But you’ll notice there’s no room for your dignity!)
✗ Stereo Sound Vest: Someone came up with this in 1985 to help with the enormous societal problem of motorcycle riders not being able to wear headphones. It ran off of the vehicle’s battery, and…ah, no one cared then, and no one cares now…
✗ The Hula Chair: In 2007, The Hawaii Chair introduced itself in a ridiculous infomercial that marketed it as an exercise solution for people with desk jobs. But, as you’d imagine, trying to do just about anything while your hips are being flung around is almost impossible. (Also, it’s awkward trying to talk to someone who looks as though they always have to pee!)
✗ Pedal-less Bike: The Fliz pedal-less bicycle cycle consists of a 5-point harness to hang the rider from the carbon fiber frame, so they can use their feet to “scoot”. It didn’t take off because, well, it was a bicycle without pedals… (Basically, this is how we all rode a bike before we learned to ride a bike…)

DID YOU KNOW?
Having a watch or a car with a wide body can help provide people with a sense of bravado and dominance, a study found. In 2022, researchers at the University of Kansas conducted 5 related experiments, hoping to find whether the width-to-height ratio of an object influenced one’s level of self-esteem. They found that test participants were more likely to choose a product with a wide design when they felt intimidated or threatened, mainly because they’d be perceived as being more dominant. (“I’d love to protect us from this marauding motorcycle gang, dear, but as you can plainly see, my watch is too narrow…!”)

BS CHRONOMETER 02.25.25

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Clam Chowder Day”, a day to add a little heat to your Winter with a bit of bacon, onion, and flour; some diced potatoes and a can of clams, simmered in clam juice and milk. Add lots of black pepper.
• “Let’s All Eat Right Day”, honoring Adelle Davis, one of America’s best-known nutritionists. Born February 25th 1904, she wrote a series of books about healthy living. (…as opposed to any other day, when it’s “Let’s eat. All right!”)
• “Chocolate-Covered Peanuts Day” (There goes “Let’s All Eat Right Day”!). The first chocolate-covered peanut candies were “Goobers”, first sold in 1925. The word “Goober” was a common slang word for peanut (and for many of my relatives!).
• “World Spay Day”, an annual campaign by the Humane Society to inspire people to save animal lives by spaying or neutering pets and feral cats. LINK: https://www.hsvma.org/world_spay_day
• “Quiet Day”, also known as “National Don’t Utter a Word Day”. It’s a day to lower the noise level for a healthier and more relaxed life. Low-level chronic noise can increase aggression, and leads to an increased risk of ulcers, high blood pressure, stroke, and cardiovascular disease. (So shut up, and save a life!)
• “Pistol Patent Day”. Samuel Colt invented the pistol. He received Patent #138 for it on this day in 1836. The patent was for the Colt Revolver with a rotating chamber containing 6 bullets.
