BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be making a stop in Dog River. The Comedy Network has announced that Trudeau will make a cameo appearance on “Corner Gas Animated” this spring. That will continue a long-running tradition for the show, with Corner Gas welcoming every sitting Prime Minister to Dog River since its inception in 2004. Russell Peters, Jann Arden and astronaut Chris Hadfield will also show up at some point in the animated version of the show’s upcoming second season.

★ “Dog the Bounty Hunter” and Beth Chapman are returning to TV. “Dog’s Most Wanted” will begin production early this year. In the 10-part series, the husband-and-wife duo will hunt down fugitives that appear on the FBI, U.S. Marshals and States’ lists. The show also marks Dog and Beth’s return to work following her cancer news. The 51-year-old was diagnosed with stage II throat cancer in September 2017, but was pronounced to be cancer-free two months later. Then, in November of last year, she underwent emergency surgery and doctors discovered her cancer had returned.

★ It was inevitable that at some point Kylie Jenner would lose her title of “Most Instagram Likes”, although not many would have guessed it would be to an egg. The Instagram account world_record_egg cracked the top spot by tweeting out to their followers with hashtags like #LikeTheEgg #EggSoldiers and #EggGang. The picture of the brown, lightly speckled egg has the caption, “Let’s set a world record together and get the most liked post on Instagram”. Currently, the photo has just under 19.5 million likes. Jenner’s former record is at 18 million. Justin Bieber’s engagement announcement comes in third with 13.3 million likes.
(I knew a lot of people “liked” eggs, but…)

★ Legendary Broadway actress Carol Channing has died of natural causes at 97. The raspy-voice, wide-eyed actress made a name for herself starring in almost five-thousand performances as the scheming Dolly Levi (LEE’-vye) in “Hello, Dolly” and in “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes”. “Because of her role in “Blondes,” Channing would forever be associated with the song “Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend.”

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Ed Sheeran – The bicycle accident that left him with a broken arm is at the center of a new lawsuit over one of the shows he canceled as a result of the injury. A promoter in Indonesia is seeking damages, claiming to have asked on multiple occasions to see medical records about Sheeran’s injury or the doctor’s four-week medical leave recommendation. Sheeran is not a named defendant in the lawsuit.
• Drake – An album of lullaby renditions of his songs will be released Feb. 22. Known for turning popular songs into dreamy instrumentals, Rockabye Baby will drop a 12-track album of soft instrumentals of his biggest hits, including ‘Gold’s Plan’ and ‘In My Feelings’. A sleepy version of ‘Hotline Bling’ is available now.
• Michael Bublé — has launched ‘Bublé Daily’ on Amazon’s Alexa to provide fans with a ”little something” every day. He has personally recorded hundreds of messages for his fans and will add updates on a regular basis. In the YouTube released to promote it, Bublé says: ”Alexa, tell me about Michael Bublé.” The device responds in his own voice: ”My favourite pizza toppings are ham and pineapple.”
• Marc Anthony — is demanding his former housekeeper’s $500,000 lawsuit against him be thrown out, claiming he owes her no money and accusing her of fraudulently inflating timecards. He denies not paying the housekeeper the lawfully required amount and denies not paying overtime.
• (***Caution: ASS***) Foo Fighters — Dave Grohl swigged champagne with a fan in Las Vegas after inviting him up on stage. The man, who introduced himself as “Jay from Bombay”, danced around the band members and sang the Faces’ ‘Stay With Me’ into Grohl’s microphone. After the show, Grohl said: “His ass is so fired. I don’t know who he works for. How…are we going to top Jay from Bombay? It ain’t gonna happen.”
• Journey – guitarist Neil Schon has announced the first dates on his “Journey Through Time” tour with his former Journey and Santana bandmate Gregg Rolie. They’ll play a warm-up show Feb. 22 in Jackson, CA, then officially open the tour on Feb. 23 at the Fox Theatre in Oakland, CA.
• The Who – have announced dates for their symphonic “Moving On!” tour. They will open in Grand Rapids, MI on May 7, with dates wrapping up June 1 in Toronto. The fall trek starts Sept. 6 in St. Paul, MN, and will run through Oct. 23 in Edmonton, AB.
• Metallica – have announced that their new pilsner beer, “Enter Night” will go on sale across the U.S., with launches in other parts of the world to follow. It had been available since September in venues during the band’s tour dates, and at outlets nearby. Last year, they launched their “Blackened” whiskey, which used a playlist of the band’s own music in an effort to affect the flavor of the drink.
• Loretta Lynn – Some big stars are coming together for an 87th birthday tribute concert on April 1 at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. Performers will include (ahem…) Garth Brooks, Brandy Clark, Alan Jackson, Miranda Lambert, Little Big Town, Martina McBride, Kacey Musgraves, Margo Price, the Pistol Annies, Darius Rucker, George Strait, Keith Urban, Jack White, Trisha Yearwood and many more.
• Rascal Flatts – Their namesake chain of restaurants will not be opening as planned. An Instagram post by the group says in part: “You may have noticed our name was associated with a restaurant project. We licensed the use of our name to a restaurant developer a few years back but never participated in the ownership or development of the restaurants in any way…We wanted you to know that this project is no longer happening.” News of the “I Like the Sound of That” line of restaurants first circulated in 2012.
SNOW AND TELL:
When it’s pretty cold out, the first reaction for many parents is to encourage the kids to play indoors and “stay warm”. But Canadian pediatricians are reminding parents that even when it is cold, kids still should get outside and play. Pediatrician Dan Flanders tells parents to assess the weather conditions, and dress them accordingly. Tips include layering clothing, and wearing hats, mittens and earmuffs to prevent heat loss and frostbite. Parents should check often to make sure their kids are warm and dry, and younger children should take regular breaks inside to warm up. If these steps are followed, parents should only be concerned when the temperature or windchill drop below -26C (-15 F). Youth between the ages of 5 and 17 should get at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per day.
(Which is approximately equivalent to the effort required to put all that snow-gear on…)
(-26! At that temp, the only thing that is going to get my kids outside is if I tell them to clean their rooms!)
(Actually my first inclination isn’t to encourage them to play inside, it’s to hand them a shovel!)

ARTS AND CRAFTS:
You know the routine. You have something that you NEED to remember, so you write it down. When the time comes that you need the info, not only have you lost the piece of paper that you wrote it on, but you’ve also forgotten what it was that you wrote. It turns out you should have drawn a picture. A study found that drawing is the best way to retain new information. Sketching it out was determined to be more effective than writing (and rewriting) notes, visualization exercises or just passively looking at images. And before you say that you “can’t draw”, the study also found the same results to be true even if the person was a poor artist. One of the study-leads says that a perfect example would be that you are much more likely to remember the groceries you need to pick up later if you draw a picture of them, rather than write them down. The findings are believed to be especially valuable for aging adults and those who suffer from dementia.
(I have a picture of my reaction to this around here somewhere…)
(Now if I could only remember to draw that picture…)
(What if the thing that I need to remember is to write someone a note?)

WORDS AND PHRASES THAT MAKE YOU LOOK WEAK:
☞ “Just”: Each time we use “just,” it suggests we are wasting someone’s time. If you have something important to say, then say it. (Just a little tip, there…)
☞ “Sorry”: If you screwed something up, then yes, say you’re sorry. But when it’s “Sorry for bothering you” or “Sorry for taking up your time”, it’s unnecessary. (Sorry, that’s very Un-Canadian…)
☞ “I’m not sure if you can, but”: It sounds so inferior. How about “Would you like to…”? (The problem is that he’ll probably respond by asking me if I’d like to do something…)
☞ “I hope that’s OK”: Don’t give up authority — you have the same rights. Instead, go with “Thanks for the consideration” or “I appreciate the help.” (“Dear boss. I left early. I appreciate the help.”)
