Bully For You!
BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Bobby Bones has confirmed that he will NOT be returning to “American Idol” as an in-house mentor. Bones, a radio personality and host, first appeared on the series as a guest mentor for season 16 in 2018. He was promoted to a full-time mentor for season 17, and remained for seasons 18 and 19. He’s been MIA from Season 20 promos, causing fans to wonder what’s happening. Bones shared that he has a contract with a “new network” and is working on a new show, so he is unable to continue on Idol.

★ Believe it or not, Adam Sandler has been named the “Style Icon of 2021” by Vogue. While he’s definitely known for making the best bad films you’ve ever seen, his dress sense hasn’t seen him receive a lot of praise until now. Usually seen in a pair of jazzy basketball shorts, sneakers and a hoodie, Sandler’s simple approach to fashion apparently impressed the experts last year. Vogue reporter Liana Satenstein wrote: “If there was a fashion zodiac for 2021, it would be the year of the schlub.” She says the proof is in the Google trend results: Adam Sandler beat out Harry Styles, Lizzo, and Britney Spears to be the top search for celebrity style. According to Vogue, “The past 18 months have been dominated by all-things cushy: sweatpants and sweatshirts (and) Sandler has long encapsulated this look.”

★ Emma Roberts’ letter from Hogwarts appears to have arrived about 20 years late. The “American Horror Story” actress was mistaken for Emma Watson when her childhood photo was accidentally featured in the reunion special “Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts”, now streaming on HBO Max. An eagle-eyed fan pointed out the flub, posting a screenshot of the photo, in which a young Roberts wears a pair of Minnie Mouse ears while eating breakfast, next to an identical screenshot from Roberts’ Instagram feed. It was, of course, Emma WATSON who reunited with Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and other stars of the Harry Potter franchise in “Return to Hogwarts”.

★ David Koechner might not be much different from the guys he plays in movies — because he spent New Year’s Eve in a cell for drinking and driving. The “Anchorman” and “Office” star was busted for suspected DUI and hit and run Friday in Simi Valley, CA — where was picked up by the local cops around 3PM . . . well before midnight. Koechner is known for playing party animals, including ‘Champ Kind’ in Anchorman and ‘Todd Packer’ from The Office, both of whom are known for boozy adventures. He’s got a court date in March.

You do that by lying.”

NEW YEAR’S RENUMERATIONS:
Employment experts say that now is the perfect time to ask for that overdue pay raise. David Turetsky, vice president of consulting at Salary.com, says there has never been a time when employees have felt so empowered to use their voices to ask to be paid what they feel they’re worth. Why? Because the market for job-seekers is unusually competitive right now, with some businesses even forced to advertise that they are looking for workers. Amber Ferrari, marketing manager, at Jobvite, a company that helps employers attract and retain talent, said: “The time is ripe to negotiate your salary. Companies want to sustain their culture, which is harder to do when many workers leave.” And with inflation they way it is these days, if your company is offering you less than about a 6.8% pay raise, that essentially equals a pay cut, so keep that in mind when you go asking. Other tips in asking for that raise:
• make a list of your recent accomplishments
• research what others in similar positions are making
• schedule a meeting with your boss (make sure it’s a good day for your boss)
• have your answers ready as to why granting you a raise is a win-win for you and your employer
• follow up with a thank you and an inquiry as to when a decision will be made
(I asked for a raise yesterday. But my wife said “no”, same as last month…)
(The bad news is that another employment expert says now is a horrible time to ask for a raise, and that expert is my boss, so…)

DRY DATING:
There is a new dating trend as we enter 2022: “Dry dating”. What’s that? The practice simply involves NOT drinking alcohol when out on a date. Shan Boodram, a sex & relationship expert from the dating app Bumble, says: “More people are saying ‘you know what, I don’t need to drink on a first date’ and that is new since the pandemic.” Experts say drinking has both disadvantages and advantages when it comes to dating. It could lead to the disclosure of information in a way that a person wouldn’t normally be comfortable with. But on the other hand, alcohol helps us relax, which could make it easier for some people to connect. To make things more transparent, Bumble has developed a profile badge as a way of telling people they’d prefer an alcohol-free first date, and it has become one of the app’s most-used features.
(What does it say about me that my first reaction to this is: “Great idea! I could save a ton of money on booze!)
(It’s funny, the person I was matched with had that badge, and was very clear that she wouldn’t be drinking . . . right up until the minute she laid eyes on me…)

LOOPY IDEA?
Everyone knows that we should all be doing whatever we can these days to try to live sustainably. But a company in the Netherlands is aiming to help us die that way too. Loop Biotech has come up with the “Loop Living Cocoon”, a unique product in the rapidly expanding world of green burial, that they refer to as the first-ever “living coffin”. Instead of being made from common biodegradable materials such as cotton, linen, willow, or bamboo, the Loop Cocoon coffin is made from living mycelium. Mycelium, the fast-growing roots of a fungus, is found everywhere in nature and is believed by scientists to provide a kind of “wood-wide web” in the soil that benefits 90% of plant species. It’s along these vast mycelial networks that organisms, such as trees, communicate and trade resources. Once introduced to groundwater, the Loop Cocoon coffin completely breaks down in 30-45 days. Its contents? Whereas a body in a traditional coffin can take 1-2 decades to break down, Loop estimates a dead person will fully decompose remains in 2-3 years if buried in the Loop Cocoon. The cost? It presently sits at around $1,600, and that’s expected to fall as output increases.
(So…these aren’t the kind of coffins that I’ve heard about that you can rent, right?)
(Boy, that’s the LAST thing I need!)
(So, the coffin breaks down in a month, but the body takes a few years? Well, they’re not sure. Remains to be seen!)

2022 IN REVIEW – THE EARLY EDITION:
Here is what we can look forward to this year, according to British psychic Jemima Packington, who makes her predictions by throwing asparagus across a room and observing the patterns formed when they land…earning her the nickname “Mystic Veg”:
➢ Covid and all its variants will be with us forever but we’ll learn to adapt and not let it get the better of us. (I’m pretty sure this is what Fauci has been saying for about a year now…)
➢ A brand new way of living will become the norm – working from home etc., but people will no longer accept shoddy services hiding behind the guise of the pandemic. (Yet still, I had another soggy pizza delivered last night!)
➢ More sadness for the Royal Family, including scandals and worse. (Just like every year?)
➢ We’ll be shocked at the news of the unexpected demise of showbiz legends. (Just like every year?)
➢ A return to times when foreign travel was an exotic luxury. It will no longer be a regular occurrence, and travel prices will reflect this. (It’s always been a luxury for us radio schlubs…)
➢ Croatia will win the Football World Cup 2022, but the competition will still be beset by controversy.
➢ The Oscar for Best Film will go to “The Power Of The Dog” and Benedict Cumberbatch will be nominated for Best Actor.

DID YOU KNOW?
Thousands of people received a surprise gift on Christmas Day when a bank accidentally deposited £130 million (US $176 million) into thousands of accounts. The mistake happened when payments from 2,000 business accounts in the U.K. were processed twice by the European bank Santander, meaning some employees saw their wages double, while suppliers also got more than they were expecting. The bank says the duplicate payments were caused by a “scheduling issue” that has now been rectified, and it is now trying to recoup the mistaken payments. (It turns out Santander doesn’t play by the same rules as Santa!)
