BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ James Corden wants the Grammy Awards to be as ”fun and enthusiastic” as possible but insists he won’t be looking for laughs as host. The 38-year-old “Late Late Show” star says he doesn’t think it is the right occasion to showcase his comedic side. Quote: ”The truth is, it’s quite a tough room to do jokes in. You can’t really do comedy because it’s the Staples Center.”
The Brit has previously hosted the Tony Awards, but he thinks the Grammys will be a very different gig. And no, there won’t be any ‘Carpool Karaoke’. The Grammy Awards take place on February 12th.

★ Bryan Singer is directing the pilot for a new “X-Men” TV series. 20th TV and Marvel Television are developing an untitled show revolving around parents who discover their child has mutant abilities. Singer has directed several “X-Men” movies, including the original film, “X-Men: Days of Future Past”, and “X-Men: Apocalypse”. The new project is the 2nd “X-Men” series scheduled to hit the small-screen. “Legion”, which centers on the son of ‘Professor Charles Xavier’ (Patrick Stewart in the movies) is premiering on FX on February 17th. It stars Dan Stevens, Jean Smart, and Aubrey Plaza.

★ And Frances Bean Cobain wants the guitar at the center of her divorce battle with musician Isaiah Silva to be handed over to an art shipping company until the legal issue is resolved. Silva claims he was given Kurt Cobain’s left-handed Martin D-18E acoustic-electric guitar as a wedding present from his soon-to-be ex. The guitar was the last Kurt played before his death in 1994 and only 300 of that particular model were made. Frances’ mother Courtney Love has called it a “family heirloom”. As the late Nirvana frontman’s heir, Frances insists the instrument is hers. Now the battle is going to court.

• Arcade Fire – To tide fans over until their upcoming new album, they are putting out “The Reflektor Tapes/Live at Earls Court” today. The DVD collects their first feature film and concert footage from their 2014 “Reflektor” tour.
• David Bowie – He’s being commemorated by Britain’s Royal Mail with a full set of 10 postage stamps that will be released later this year. The limited edition collection features 6 album covers and 4 photos from various tours. It goes into circulation on March 14th.
• Drake – Is his latest playmate former porn star-turned-artist Rosee Divine? “Daily Star” reports they’ve been spotted doing dinner in Amsterdam, The Netherlands this week. The 27-year-old native of France is a former xxx-rated starlet (“Bad Bitches 1”) who recently left the porn world behind to work as an artist under the name Sophie B.
• Ed Sheeran – He’s announced a tour of arena venues in the UK and Ireland beginning in April. This leg of his European tour commences in Dublin with 2 shows April 12th-13th. He’s previously announced live dates in South America, Central America, and Mexico in May-June.
• Madonna – Hits 105 [KTTY] Texarkana TX is no longer playing her hits in response to her controversial comments about the White House during the Women’s March on Washington. The Texas radio station is banning her music “indefinitely”.
• Sam Hunt – The country star has proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Hannah Lee Fowler, during a spiritual retreat in Israel. Fowler, who hates the limelight, inspired many of the songs on her husband-to-be’s debut album “Montevallo”.
• Tift Merritt – Today she releases her new album “Stitch Of the World”, featuring the singles “Love Soldiers On” and “Dusty Old Man”.

• “A Dog’s Purpose” ( PG Family Adventure ): While the producer has pleaded his case that there was no harm to animals on-set, PETA’s call for a boycott may leave this film dead in the water. The story reminds us how dogs are more than just pets; they fill crucial roles in the lives of their owners. Stars Dennis Quaid, Peggy Lipton, and Josh Gad as the voice of the Golden Retriever.

CATS MAY BE AS SMART AS DOGS:
Japanese scientists at Kyoto University say cats are as good as dogs at certain memory tests, suggesting they may be just as smart. A study shows that felines can recall memories of pleasant experiences, such as eating a favorite snack. This is known as ‘episodic memory’, and it’s common to dogs as well as humans. It’s thought to indicate introspective functions of the mind, so this study may imply a type of consciousness in cats. The researchers also say cats can match dogs on various mental tests, including responding to human gestures, facial expressions, and emotions. (Cats may be as smart as dogs … is that some kind of insult?)

SKIN PRINT:
Human skin can now be printed. A team of biologists at Spain’s Universidad Carlos III in Madrid has built a prototype 3D bio-printer that can create functional human skin. It closely replicates real skin, featuring an epidermis-like external layer for protection; a thicker layer to act as the dermis; and a layer made up of cells that produce collagen, the protein that gives skin elasticity. The researchers say their lab-made skin could be used in transplants for burn victims; and also for cosmetics testing, bringing an end to animal testing once and for all. 3D-printed skin designed for transplant needs to be made using a patient’s own cells, so the body doesn’t reject it. (Cool. Now they can make skin flicks without any actors.)
