Tomorrow’s Show Prep Today!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Disney’s next live-action remake will reportedly be “Bambi”. Insiders at Disney say the company has begun the process of adapting the animated classic into a CGI spectacle in the same style as the recent takes on “The Jungle Book” and “The Lion King”. No word on a release date yet. Bambi was originally released in 1942, following the life of a young fawn learning to live in the forest. The coming of age story is often cited as one of Disney’s most tragic and heart-wrenching tales, as it depicts the loss of Bambi’s parents.

★ Matthew McConaughey loved the duds his sharp-dressed weed dealer wears in “The Gentlemen”. So much so that when shooting wrapped — he swiped them. And why not? According to McConaughey, his wardrobe in the movie was custom-made for him, so “They aren’t going to fit anyone else.” He says: “I thought, ‘I’m taking those with me.’ And I got away with it.”

★ Jason Lee says he wants to make a few more episodes of “My Name Is Earl”. There have been calls for a new series ever since the last episode aired in 2009, leaving fans on a bit of a cliff-hanger because the final episode ended with the words “To Be Continued…” Lee urged fans to get involved, saying: “Start a petition [to reboot the show]. Everybody asks me, ‘what happened, what happened, what happened?’” Lee says he’d like to be able to wrap the show up with “At least like, even a little three-part series.”

★ Taraji P. Henson could be set to channel the late diva Whitney Houston on the big screen, if the singer’s sister-in-law Pat gets her way. While the film is in its early stages of development, she teased the pair are considering several “options” to play the leading role, before adding, “I love Taraji P. Henson. Taraji is my girl.”

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Taylor Swift — In scenes from her documentary, “Miss Americana”, which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival on Thursday night, she reveals that she would often restrict her eating to the point of feeling she was about to pass out on stage. The doc comes to Netflix on Friday.
• Demi Lovato — On Friday, the delivery app Postmates highlighted her ordering habits ahead of her performance at the Grammy Awards. Among her most-ordered items: Starbucks iced green tea, homemade yogurt from Yogurtstop, and guacamole from Tocaya Organica. But remember: last Feb., she racked up a $118 charge for dog food, treats and toys, including a sock monkey and two different stuffed gators for her pups Cinderella and Batman.
• Cher – has jumped into Britney Spears’ conservatorship battle. As a hearing was held last week regarding Spears’ father’s legal guardianship, Cher retweeted an article about the #FreeBritney movement and added the personal message: “JUST ENOUGH MEDS TO KEEP HER WORKING, BUT NOT ENOUGH TO HAVE A LIFE.”
• Aerosmith — and drummer Joey Kramer called a truce on Friday night. When the group accepted its MusiCares award, Kramer appeared with the band, but did not perform. Here is how they were introduced: “They are brothers. They refer to each other as brothers and they even fight like brothers.”
• (***CAUTION***) Elton John — has a new candle in the wind – and it smells like Gwyneth Paltrow’s vagina. He reportedly snapped up a batch of the now infamous “This Smells Like My Vagina” candles, which have now sold out on Paltrow’s her “Goop” website. They are being called the first “must-have” item of 2020.
• Madonna — has cancelled the first London show of her “Madame X” tour. She was forced to pull out of the first night of her 15-date residency at the London Palladium tonight after being advised by her doctor to rest.
• Jessica Simpson – plans to turn her new tell-all memoir “Open Book” into a biopic. The book, based on the journals she has kept since the age of 15, comes out next month.
• Hot Country Knights – The 90s-influenced band fronted by Dierks Bentley’s alter-ego Douglas “Doug” Douglason will release their debut album later this year. As he puts it: “It’s really fun and I think it’s really needed in country music right now.”
• Chase Rice — surprised fans with the release of a seven-song EP, “The Album Part I” on Friday. Part II will follow later this year. Quote: “I chose to call this “The Album” because it’s the first thing I would encourage someone to listen to if they want to know who I am as an artist.”

HAVING A BALL?
With the Super Bowl set to go on Sunday, keep this bit of information in mind if you are doing the hosting: Food is more important than the game when it comes to reasons for attending a Super Bowl party, according to new research. A survey of 2,000 American adults asked respondents the top reasons for getting together on the biggest sporting day of the year — and found that food topped the list (56%). The next most popular reason was simply being social (54%), while less than half (49%) said the game itself was the main reason to take part in a Super Bowl party. The number four and five spots were family time (45%) and to watch the commercials (38%). 40% of respondents have been so wrapped up in the food and social side of things that they missed most of the game, while 32% of respondents revealed they’ve called in sick to work the day after the Super Bowl.
(I’m not sure if I’d call watching dad get embarrassingly drunk and spitting Dorito bits at the TV while screaming at a referee who is 2,000 miles away quality “family time”, but maybe that’s just me…)
(Nothing there about avoiding laundry, huh?)
(Notice no one mentioned the halftime show? Because Maroon 5.)

(Most of) A DAY’S WORK:
The thought of a four-day week is certainly an appealing one, and it’s a concept that, according to studies, results in more productive workers. But instead of a shorter workweek, how about a shorter workDAY?  An article in “The Conversation” written by Anthony Veal, an adjunct professor in the Business School at the University of Technology in Sydney, makes the argument that shorter workdays could be more impactful, particularly for parents who want to spend more time with their kids, and more practical. He says that for most working families, the time between the end of work and bedtime is the primary window for families to spend time together, and that it would be lengthened if parents got out of work earlier. But if workplaces simply started closing on Fridays, Monday to Thursday’s after-school and after-work time would remain just as rushed as it is now. He also points out that that shorter workdays would mean better alignment with school schedules, allowing more parents to be there for their kids after school.
(Plus no daycare!)
(I suppose it doesn’t really matter to me. One’s about as likely as the other…)
(But if most peoples’ workday ends at 3:00, teachers will want out at noon!)

T-MINUS 100 SECONDS . . .
I’m not sure how your Monday is going so far, but this probably won’t help. On Friday, the Doomsday Clock, which is used to illustrate how close humanity is to annihilation, was moved to its closest position to apocalypse since it was first started in 1947. It now stands at 100 seconds to midnight. President and CEO of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists Rachel Bronson said in a press release that the move was made to express how close the world is to catastrophe due to the climate crisis, two threats of nuclear war, the rise of false information online, and the refusal of world leaders to act on these critical issues. The Doomsday Clock was set at two minutes to midnight in 2018, and had remained there ever since.
(No joke here…tell your elected representatives what you think about it!)

SMARTPHONE FEATURES THAT YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT:
➢ Schedule messages (Android):  There’s a pull-down next to the call button which gives you the option to do just that. (Too bad you can’t schedule a message to be sent in the past…it would get me out of a lot of trouble…)
➢ Listen to the radio (Android):  Without using the internet, no less! Many phones can access FM radio while using corded headphones, which double as antennas. (Or, you know, get the [***our station***] app!)
➢ Split screen (Android):  Hold down the tab icon, and you phone will become a split screen. Great for multitaskers who don’t want to sacrifice Twitter to the gods of Instagram. (Because my attention span isn’t already short enough?)
➢ Bedtime (iPhone):  It can remind you when to go to sleep, as well as wake you up at a scheduled time. In the clock app. (Never mind that Big Brother is always watching…now Big Mother is too!)
➢ Use “hey, Siri” to find your phone (iPhone):  Say, “Hey, Siri, where’s my phone?” and she’ll reply “follow the sound of my voice.” (While you’re at it…find my keys!)
(What other features should they come up with?)

DID YOU KNOW?
Four newly-discovered species of shark are capable of trotting around on land, using four fins as stubby legs. While they still live in the water, they can briefly wriggle across dry land to migrate from one tide pool to another. This means there are now nine known species of sharks that have evolved to walk on land.
