BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ After being spurned by Donald Trump in his bid for a pardon, Joe Exotic is moving on to the next POTUS, and keeping the faith that President Biden will grant his freedom. Exotic says he has more confidence in Biden regarding criminal justice and prison reform, and claims he watched a TV special on VP Kamala Harris, leading him to believe she can “help clean up the corruption in the DOJ and other agencies.” As for his feelings about Trump, Exotic says he always looked up to him for being a straight-shooter and never backing down, but that all changed after January 6.

★ Over the weekend, Samuel L. Jackson documented his trip to the Forum in Los Angeles County to get his first COVID-19 vaccination. At age 72, Jackson falls under the county’s 65-and-up eligibility rules. He couldn’t resist marking the moment with a nod to his Marvel Cinematic Universe roots. He shared a selfie showing off his brightly colored ‘Nick Fury’ face mask. He’s played the Avengers founder and S.H.I.E.L.D. director in 11 Marvel films as the eyepatch-wearing character.

★ After “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” wrapped its final episode, Kim, Kourtney, Khloé and Kris surprised their roughly 30-person crew with Rolex watches. The famous family reportedly “thanked everyone with speeches” and swapped sentimental stories from the set prior to presenting the team with the pricey timepieces, on which they spent a total of around $300,000 — about $10,000 each.

• Justin Timberlake – ‘Better Days’, his duet with Ant Clemons, featuring Kirk Franklin, was released to streaming services following the song’s performance at the Biden-Harris inauguration. It has now set the record for the most-Shazamed song in a single day in the US.
• BTS — After releasing their album “BE (Deluxe Edition)” on Nov. 20, the K-pop supergroup are dropping another release. “BE (Essential Edition)” will arrive Feb. 19. They will also be unveiling “surprise gifts” for the ARMY in the days leading up to the Essential Edition’s release.
• Prince – Singer/percussionist Sheila E. is making a biopic about their longtime relationship. She posted on Facebook: “Coming soon…Sheila E. to release ‘Girl Meets Boy’, a film telling the beautiful story of her time with Prince. Stay Tuned.”
• Salt-N-Pepa — DJ Spinderella was shut out from the group biopic that premiered Sat. on Lifetime, and she isn’t pleased. Spinderella, born Deidra Roper, took to Twitter to complain about the film which focuses exclusively on Cheryl “Salt” James and Sandra “Pepa” Denton’s journey to hip-hop stardom.
• Paula Abdul – says Michael Bolton was a poor babysitter when she was a kid. Abdul’s big sister was close to Bolton when he was a music biz rookie, so when she needed someone to watch Paula, she called on Bolton. Quote: “He was the worst babysitter, because all he cared about was music.”
• Nickelback – When the UK group The Lottery Winners went viral on TikTok with a “sea shanty” version of their hit ‘Rockstar’ the group liked it so much that they joined in, adding their own vocals for a remixed supergroup version. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/y3btdm7f
• The Beach Boys — A TV special to mark the group’s 60th anniversary could soon be in the works, according to co-founder Al Jardine. And although a full commemorative tour this year is unlikely, he’d like to take the band on the road to “10 or 20 areas of the world”.
• Morgan Wallen – His sophomore album “Dangerous: The Double Album” has debuted at the top of the all-genre Billboard 200 albums chart. It also debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart, making him the first artist to debut at the top of the Top Country Albums and Hot Country Songs chart at the same time.
• Eric Church – has announced that he has not one, but three new albums coming in April! “Heart”, “&”, and “Soul” are the names of the three projects, with the & album coming out April 20th, exclusively for members of his ‘Church Choir’ fan club. “Heart” arrives April 16th, and Soul will be available April 23.
• Garth Brooks — Before stepping outside the US Capitol Building to perform ‘Amazing Grace’ at President Biden’s Inauguration Day ceremony, he enlisted the help of Lady Gaga’s hair and makeup team. In a tweet, Brooks asked Gaga to pass on his thanks to her hairstylist and makeup artist, writing: “They saved a cowboy today.”
SHOOTING THE BULL
DRILLING DOWN BEFORE GOING FORWARD:
There are probably a dozen “office jargon” terms that you wish you’d never hear again, but which one is the MOST annoying? “Circle back.” In a survey by Workfront, 13% of workers called it the most annoying phrase used in the office. In a post discussing “soul sucking corporate phrases”, Los Angeles Magazine listed circle back as the most annoying phrase used in the office. And CNBC called for the phrase to be banned from offices. According to corporate finance and advisory firm Keystone Partners Vice President Brenda Stanton, “It usually means we just had a meeting where nothing was accomplished, and we need to ‘circle back’ to have another pointless meeting.” She feels the term can be upsetting to someone who needs an immediate answer. Other ways to say circle back, without actually saying it include “Let’s return back” and “Let’s schedule another call” …not that the end result is any different. Other ‘most-annoying’ work phrases include “Think outside the box,” “Synergy,” “Game-changer” and “Run it up the flagpole.”
(What comes to mind for you?)
(I’m not sure what comes to mind for me. Let’s ‘touch base’ later!)
(My personal least favorite: “Can I see you in my office?”)

ENRICHMENT PROGRAM:
Elon Musk wants to give away $100 million. Last week, Musk — the founder of Tesla and SpaceX — tweeted he would donate $100 million towards a prize for designing effective carbon capture technology. You might recall that earlier this month, Musk, after surpassing Amazon founder Jeff Bezos as the world’s richest person, asked his Twitter followers for feedback on ways he could donate money that would “really make a difference.” His follow-up tweet on Thursday said, “Am donating $100M towards a prize for best carbon capture technology.” Controlling carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere is an important step in the fight against climate change. Carbon dioxide is emitted by the burning of fossil fuels, such as coal and oil.
(Hey Elon! I’ve got an idea. It’s called a tree…)
(Well, whoever comes up with the winning entry will definitely be the best-paid scientist out there!)
(I just don’t like this guy. Go ahead…call me an “anti-Musker”!)

CHEWING THE FAT ABOUT FAT:
⇒ New research has poked a hole in the theory that it’s possible to be “fat but fit.” Physical activity does nothing to cancel the harmful effects of excess body weight on cardiovascular health, according to a study published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology. Scientists found that regardless of activity levels, overweight study participants faced higher cardiovascular risks than those with normal body weight. When compared to inactive normal-weight adults, physically active obese people were still about twice as likely to have high cholesterol, 4 times more likely to have diabetes and 5 times more likely to have high blood pressure. The findings contradict previous studies concluding that physical activity could lessen the effects of extra body weight on heart health. (I suppose you’re looking for a ‘paunch’ line here…)
⇒ Skipping dinner could cause weight gain, according to a new study. Researchers at Osaka University observed the health records of about 18,000 students over the course of 3 years and found those who regularly skipped dinner were likely to gain weight or be overweight. Ditching dinner was more associated with overweight/obesity in men and women, than skipping breakfast or lunch was, according to the study’s findings. Researchers aren’t sure why dinner-skipping appears to contribute to weight gain, but they theorize it could be that skipping dinner causes a person to eat more than they usually would at other times of the day. (Been there, done fat…)

FALL ASLEEP FASTER WITH THE SIX Ts:
The team at eco-friendly bedding brand “Snug” analyzed decades of research to uncover exactly what we need to do to fall asleep peacefully…
☞ Timing: Most adults need between 6 and 9 hours of sleep per night. Are you going to bed early enough to achieve this?
☞ Temperature: Your bedroom should be around 17°C (63F). While this may vary a bit from person to person, it’s always harder to fall asleep when you are too hot or cold (or your partner is…believe me!)
☞ Technology: Take a little time away from the screen before bedtime. It’s best not to use your phone in the 90 minutes before bed. Reading, meditating or drawing are relaxing alternatives that can help you to sleep soundly.
☞ Taste-buds: Give them a break before bed. Eat your last meal at least 3 hours before bed…and no coffee for 10 hours before trying to sleep is best. (If I don’t have a coffee for 10 hours, I’ll definitely be able to fall asleep!)
☞ Tog: The what? It stands for ‘Thermal Overall Grade’, and is a measurement of how much a fabric insulates. Changing your duvet according to the seasons can help you sleep. A 4.5 tog is best for warmer nights, 10.5 for in-between seasons, and 13.5 for winter.
☞ Thank you: Turn out the light, say goodnight and be thankful for something. While it may sound corny, science shows expressing gratitude for things big and small satisfies us and helps us rest.
(What’s your ‘go-to’ tip for falling asleep?)

DID YOU KNOW?
A new survey finds the average person tried to form 19 new habits during quarantine – and gave up on all but 4 of them. A new exercise routine (34%), a new hobby (31%), and a new cooking regimen (29%) were among the top new habits to try last year. On the other hand, a new wake-up time (13%), meditation (12%), and going to bed earlier (10%) were the activities most likely to be tried and subsequently abandoned in 2020. (If, like me, your “new hobby” is cutting down on laundry through repetition, you might be considered a success!)
