BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Jeremy Renner says he broke more than 30 bones in the New Year’s Day snowplow accident that sent him to the hospital for more than 2 weeks. Renner, who plays superhero archer ‘Hawkeye’ in the Marvel universe, posted a photo on Instagram with a caption reading, in part: “These 30 plus broken bones will mend, grow stronger, just like the love and bond with family and friends deepens . Love and blessings to you all.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3nn8uyjr

★ King Charles may have a scaled-back coronation — a theory being floated after official plans for the ceremony were released. Saturday, Buckingham Palace announced the schedule of events for His Royal Highness’s crowning as the next monarch on May 6, and it’ll be a 3-day celebration. The coronation itself, at Westminster Abbey, will be a “solemn religious service”, followed by a star-studded concert the next day at Windsor Castle. But the palace also noted “The service will reflect the Monarch’s role today and look towards the future, while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry.” Some are speculating that means it’ll be a less extravagant affair than what Charles’ mother, Queen Elizabeth II, received in 1953.

★ It’s now official: James Cameron’s “Avatar: The Way of Water” has become the 6th movie ever to cross the $2B mark worldwide. It is also the filmmaker’s third to hit the milestone, alongside “Titanic” and the original “Avatar”. Global gross for the 20th Century Studios/Disney sequel hit $2.024B through Sunday. In its 6th weekend of release, “Avatar: The Way of Water” continued to float atop the box office, ahead of new release “Missing.” The “Avatar” sequel added $4.6 million to its domestic haul on Friday, pushing its North America total to $582 million, just a stone’s throw away from taking down “Incredibles 2” ($608 million) as the 12th-highest grossing film of all time domestically.

★ The ‘Mother of Dragons’ can’t bring herself to watch “House of the Dragon”. Emilia Clarke, who starred as ‘Daenerys Targaryen’ on all 8 seasons of “Game of Thrones”, hasn’t been able to get her eyes on its prequel series “House of the Dragon”, which premiered in August. Why not? She compares it to being invited to a school reunion “that’s not your year? Want to go to that school reunion? That’s how it feels.” House of the Dragon took home the Golden Globe for Best TV Series – Drama on Jan. 10.

★ Dennis Quaid is the latest star to join the “Yellowstone” universe. He has joined the cast of Taylor Sheridan’s upcoming Paramount+ series “Bass Reeves”, which itself is a spinoff of the Yellowstone prequel “1883”. Quaid will star opposite series lead David Oyelowo, who plays the legendary lawman ‘Bass Reeves’. Quaid will play ‘Sherrill Lynn’, a Deputy U.S. Marshall. The series is currently shooting in Texas, and no release date has been announced.

★ Buzz Aldrin celebrated his 93rd birthday on Friday by getting married. The legendary astronaut posted a statement on Twitter saying: “On my 93rd birthday & the day I will also be honored by Living Legends of Aviation I am pleased to announce that my longtime love Dr. Anca Faur & I have tied the knot.” The second man to set foot on the moon wore a black suit decorated with various pins, while his 63-year-old bride wore a white gown adorned with rhinestones. SHOOTING THE BULL

COMMUTE COMPUTING:
If you weren’t too impressed with having to get up early and brave the elements – and the traffic – in order to get to work this morning, just consider this: It’s good for you. Researchers at University College London report that traveling more than 15 miles (24km) from home regularly is positive for your mental and physical well-being. The team found living in a poorly-connected area had a negative impact on health, particularly for those over the age of 55. Older adults are more likely to suffer mobility issues and loneliness, while younger people often move to the big cities. People who travel often were more likely to visit more places and to catch up with friends and family on a regular basis, leading to more social participation and better health. The researchers say their findings show society needs to invest more in medium and long-distance transport options.
(On the other hand, if you’ve ever carpooled with someone who drives like [***afternoon guy***], you’d know that you’d be much safer never leaving home at all!)
(I’m going out on a limb here, and guessing they don’t mean to give tax breaks on scooters!)

EMAIL: NO ATTACHMENT:
Gen Z is trying to delete your inbox. Or so it would seem. According to the CEO of Wipro, an IT firm that employs about 260,000 people around the world, 10% of his workers don’t check their email even once a month. Thierry Delaporte says he’s forced to use Instagram and LinkedIn to communicate with his Gen Z staffers because it “works better” in a world where efficiency is key. In a world of staffing shortages, and of workers quitting in droves (quiet quitting or not…) experts advise employers to create “a workplace that is more attractive” to the younger generation, including the use of alternative communication platforms. And why is it that younger workers avoid email? For one thing, the amount of spam and ads they are subjected to is enough to turn anyone off…and for another thing, a Gen Z’er is likely to be more “influenced by tools they’ve grown up with…and it may not always fit with the most commonly used tools in business”, according to another CEO.
(Sounds like a whole generation forgot their passwords!)
(And this is the generation that we’ve been told for 20 years can adapt to any technology?)

NEW GOOD NEWS:
➢ A man who may have saved the lives of 24 people by breaking into a school in Cheektowaga NY during the “worst storm in a generation” has been given Super Bowl tickets by his hometown team. 27-year-old Jay Withey received the reward from the Buffalo Bills in collaboration with Blue Cross Blue Shield. Legendary former Bill Thurman Thomas personally delivered the surprise on Friday, telling Withey: “We love you…what you did on Christmas Eve was very heroic, and you’re our hero.” Withey broke a window of Edge Academy on in order to get 2 dozen people, including several seniors, plus 2 dogs, out of hurricane-force winds, snow, and deathly cold temperatures. He borrowed the academy’s snowblower to get some people unstuck from the roads and into the school. Once inside, he found granola bars, water, and blankets in the nurses’ office, and gathered apples, juice, and cereal from the kitchen. The group sat out the storm, and before leaving cleaned up every trace of their presence. One of the group later returned to replace the food and inquire about the cost of the window.
➢ North Carolina nurse Kierstin Davis is sharing the story of how she adopted a 63-pound white puppy after he’d experienced 14 failed adoptions in just 5 weeks. Davis said she knew she had to act fast after a post looking for Ronald’s 15th home by the SPCA of Wake County went viral. As for why the energetic dog kept getting returned, an SPCA spokesperson said: “It was all just a…combination of being really playful and kind of clumsy and goofy and still working on his manners, in combination with his large size.” But after hooking up with the Davis family on Jan. 12, “Everything’s been really good…He really just fits in perfectly”, said Davis, who has two young boys, 4 and 7, along with a rescued Australian shepherd. She agreed to a 5-week trial, and brought Ronald home, surprising her kids with their latest family member. When the kids “just screamed with excitement”, she knew: “Oh, he’s perfect. He’s staying.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/579vdb2u

MYTHS ABOUT THE COLD:
✗ You Lose Most of Your Heat from Your Head:  Where your body loses heat is closely related to surface area, and the head has only about 9% of the body’s surface area. On the other hand, if the rest of you is all covered up and your head isn’t, then you DO lose most of your heat from your head… (I can confirm that you lose most of your HAIR from your head, however…)
✗ To Warm Up, Sip Coffee or Brandy:  Caffeine and alcohol actually hinder the body’s ability to produce heat. They can also cause your core temperature to drop. Instead, drink warm water, or something with sugar. (Can I have brandy if I put sugar in it?)
✗ If You Go Out in the Cold, You’ll Catch a Cold:  You catch cold from a virus, not from cold temperatures. (Now stop listening to old wives!)
✗ Rub Your Fingers or Toes to Warm Them:  Wiggle them instead. If exposed skin (including that of your face and ears) becomes cold, cover it with a warm hand until it feels better. Rubbing can cause tissue damage.
✗ Try to Resist Shivering:  Shivering means that your body is trying to warm up, and that’s good. In fact, shivering can triple your body’s heat production.
✗ If I’m Feeling Cold, You Must Be Feeling It Too:  Age, gender, fitness level and acclimatization all determine when you “feel” cold. And it’s been proven that women generally feel cold before men do, possibly because they have less heat-generating ability. (Just ask me about my first wife!)
(Cold, hard facts…that aren’t facts!!)

DID YOU KNOW?
Pizza Hut has taken a hefty slice of the Guinness Records pie after cooking up the world’s biggest ever pizza. The pizza chain enlisted a team of workers to put together the giant pie last week, which required a staggering 13,653 pounds of dough, 4,948 pounds of sweet marinara sauce, more than 8,800 pounds of cheese, and 630,496 pepperoni slices. The team spread individual squares of pizza dough across the enormous floorspace at the LA Convention Center, before painstakingly topping them with the marinara sauce, cheese, and pepperoni, and heating it from above, in sections. The final pie measured in at a whopping 13,990 square feet, and resulted in 68,000 slices. Pizza Hut donated the completed pie to local food banks and charities in Los Angeles.
