BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Sooner or later everyone in Hollywood learns that you never bet against James Cameron. Matt Damon experienced that lesson the hard way. In Cannes promoting his new movie “Stillwater”, Damon disclosed his biggest career regret: turning down Cameron’s offer to headline the 2009 blockbuster, “Avatar”. Damon wasn’t just offered the part of the central character in the out-of-this-world epic: he was also given the opportunity to sign on for a 10% cut of Avatar’s profits. Avatar eventually became the #1 box-office smash of all-time, raking in $2.8 billion. As Damon put it: “I will go down in history… you will never meet an actor who turned down more money.”

★ Tom Cruise enjoyed a day out with his “Mission: Impossible” costars. He attended the Wimbledon women’s singles finals on Saturday alongside Hayley Atwell and Pom Klementieff. The official Twitter account for the tennis championship shared a pair of fun videos in honor of Cruise, who wore a sharp blue suit for the outing. That came a month after production was briefly suspended due to a positive COVID-19 test on set. In addition to the latest installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise, Cruise will also star in “Top Gun: Maverick”, hitting theaters this November.

★ An unopened copy of Nintendo’s “The Legend of Zelda” video game has sold at auction for $870,000. Heritage Auctions in Dallas said it was a rare version that was created during a limited production run in late 1987. The Legend of Zelda is a popular fantasy adventure game that was first released in 1986, and, according to the auction house, “marks the beginning of one of the most important sagas in gaming.” In April, the auction house sold a copy of Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros. that was bought in 1986 and forgotten about in a desk drawer for $660,000.

The new, 1,326-piece LEGO set marks the 30th Anniversary of the 1989 premiere of the classic comedy series, and it was even designed by a Seinfeld fan. The set measures over 12 inches wide, 7 inches deep, and 5 inches tall. It will be available from the LEGO website on August 1 for $79.99.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• The Jonas Brothers — On Friday, NBC debuted the first look at the upcoming TV special “Olympic Dreams”, featuring them getting a crash course in summer sports. In the special, the brothers attempt gymnastics, track & field, and BMX racing. “Olympic Dreams Featuring Jonas Brothers” premieres July 21. LINK: https://youtu.be/cbI4WYB_5n4
• Billie Eilish — says it was “fun” stepping out of her “comfort zone” on her latest single ‘NDA’. She released the song from her eagerly-awaited second album ‘Happier Than Ever’ last week, and says the aim was to create something “unexpected” for fans.
• Biz Markie — the hip-hop legend is in poor health. He has been out of the public eye for a while, and rumors falsely swirled that he had died on June 30. However, his rep says he is still alive, but dealing with some “concerning” issues.
• The Doors — A new documentary is in the works about frontman Jim Morrison, featuring newly unearthed personal diaries, home movies and more. It comes on the heels of the recently published book, “The Collected Works of Jim Morrison,” which included his poetry, journals, and lyrics. No title or release date yet for the documentary, which is being developed in conjunction with the Morrison estate.
• The Black Crowes — have released “Brothers of a Feather”, a new movie documenting their 2020 reunion, on Amazon Prime’s streaming video channel. The film captures the final night of last year’s tour when the band played a sold-out show at the Chapel in San Francisco on March 6, 2020.
• The Who — Pete Townshend says he isn’t sure if there will ever be a new Who album because of the “old fashioned way” they work. Quote: “It does take quite a lot of time to put together the 20 or 30 songs that are needed”. He does, however, say that he is “optimistic” and “full of ideas”.
• Zac Brown Band — released two new songs Friday: ‘Out In The Middle’ and ‘Old Love Song’. Both were written by Brown and co-writers Luke Combs, Ben Simonetti and Jonathan Singleton. Up next for the band is The Comeback Tour, which kicks off in August in Holmdel, N.J. and runs through October.
• Lady A — canceled their planned appearance at the Lakefront Music Fest in Minnesota on Saturday after singer Charles Kelley suffered appendicitis. Kelley’s bandmates, Dave Haywood and Hillary Scott, tweeted “Charles is in good hands and we’re continuing to pray for his recovery.”
• Dierks Bentley – announced on Insta the news that the Seven Peaks Festival in Buena Vista, CO, which he founded, has been canceled after Chaffee County officials refused to lift capacity restrictions. Guidelines limit gatherings to 5,000 people, but concert organizers sought a permit to allow 20,000 to attend this year’s festival, which was also to feature Keith Urban and Old Crow Medicine Show.

SHOOTING THE BULL

GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS:
The world’s deepest pool has opened in Dubai. With a staggering depth of 60 meters (196 feet), the pool, part of the new “Deep Dive Dubai” attraction, is filled with 14 million liters of fresh water — the volume of 6 Olympic-sized swimming pools — and is at least 4 times bigger than any other diving pool in the world. But the coolest part of Deep Dive Dubai is probably the pool’s underwater city. Divers can explore “abandoned” sunken city apartments and play underwater pool in the arcade. State-of-the-art lighting and sound systems have been fitted inside to create different atmospheres. The pool also doubles as an underwater film studio. The facility is open by invitation only for now but will open to the public later this year. And yes, Dubai is already home to the world’s tallest skyscraper and the world’s largest mall…
(…and now, also the world’s largest…wait for it…DIVE BAR! I’ll show myself to the door…)
(Nice pool – but I’d hate to vacuum it!)
(Two years to build it, and two more to fill it?)

SELL PHONES:
UK-based antiques website LoveAntiques.com has put together a list of the most valuable old-school mobile phones, showing that if you’ve got a “brick” hidden away in a junk drawer, you could be sitting on a minor goldmine. At the top of the list is a rare pre-production prototype model of the very first iPhone – which hit stores in 2007. If you’re lucky enough to have one, it’s apparently worth a whopping US $13,900. Other phones that could potentially be worth a fortune include more common models like old Motorolas and Nokias. What makes an old phone valuable? It has a lot to do with the software installed on the phone, the exact model, how rare the phone is and interestingly, whether or not it has “cult status”. The prototype iPhone 1 has previously sold for as much as $41,700 because it has different software, and is therefore rare. Here is the rest of the top-5:
2. Motorola 8000x – $1,100-$4,870
3. Nokia 7700 – $1,390-$2,782
4. Mobira Senator NMT- $1,100- $2,782
5. IBM Simon Personal Communicator- $1,100-2,782
(Of course, then I’d have to buy a new phone…)

HOT DOG, HOT BUTTON TOPIC:
A lot has been said about the fact that, for Hot Dog Month, Heinz Ketchup has launched a campaign to encourage hot dog bun and wiener companies to finally sell their products in packages containing equal quantities. The Heinz Hot Dog Pact, calls upon hot dog lovers around the world to sign the petition at HeinzHotDogPact.com in support of the movement. But it seems there is a good reason that hot dog wieners are usually sold in packs of 10 and buns in 8-packs. Janet Riley, vice-president of communications and public affairs at Maple Leaf Foods, says hot dogs were actually consumed alone long before a bun even existed, and were eaten with a knife and fork. It wasn’t until the early 1940s when hot dog wieners began being produced uniformly in cellulose casings to ensure every dog was the same size. They were then sold in packs of 10. Around this time, hot dog buns were introduced, and were made using baking pans that held 4 buns. Now, depending on where you live, buns may be sold in packages of 6, 8, 12 or 24, while wieners could be sold in groups of 8, 10, or 12.
(Or get the handy Costco “Cookout every weekend all summer long” 200-pack!)
(So, if you don’t mind leftovers, just buy five bags of 8-pack buns and 4 10-packs of hot dogs. Thanks, math!)
(Instead of a petition, you’d think a company worth $42 billion would just buy a deli and a bakery…)

THE BENEFITS OF KISSING:
➢ It helps you lose weight:  A report found that a simple kiss burns 2-3 calories per minute, whereas a passionate kiss can burn 5-26 calories per minute. (I’m not sure if this is enough to help you lose weight, but at least you can’t eat while you’re doing it!)
➢ It can boost your self-esteem:  Kissing causes the brain to release oxytocin and dopamine, which can lead to greater feelings of affection, bonding and intimacy. And kissing someone indicates certain feelings toward a person, which makes them feel good about themselves. (THIS is why my dog kisses me?)
➢ Kissing can reduce cavities:  Two ways – kissing increases saliva flow, which washes away the acids in your mouth that can cause cavities. Plus, if a person is planning on kissing, they are more likely to take better care of their oral hygiene. (Good theory. Let me introduce you to my 11th grade prom date sometime…)
➢ It can dilate your blood vessels:  Kissing makes your heart rate increase. As a result, blood pressure decreases and blood vessels dilate. This not only makes you less-stressed, it can reduce pain from things such as menstrual cramps or headaches. (Unless you are kissing someone you shouldn’t. Then, blood pressure definitely INcreases!)

DID YOU KNOW?
A study has revealed how cats felt about spending more time with their people during last year’s lockdown. While some animals would have been delighted at all the attention, walks and treats they received during stay-at-home orders, cats didn’t. Researchers at Australia’s James Cook University found that half of the 400 cat owners in the study said they felt their cats were ‘put out’ by the work from home situation, and felt like their space was being invaded. Almost 100% of dog owners reported that their dogs loved the fact that they were home all the time.
