Monthly Planning Calendar in Tomorrow’s “BS”!

WEEKEND TABLOID & BLOG BS:
• TODAY auditions for the 7th season of “American Idol” kick off at San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium. Wristbands for wannabe pop stars have been handed out in advance to prevent aspiring contestants from camping out all weekend on the venue’s grounds. (The search for the new Sanjaya begins!)
– PopTower.com
• Wed on the weekend: Film funnyman Steve Martin & longtime girlfriend Anne Stringfield in a surprise ceremony. They invited friends to their LA home for what was supposed to be a dinner party but then shocked guests by getting hitched instead. “Saturday Night Live” producer/creator Lorne Michaels was best man, and guests included Diane Keaton, Tom Hanks and Eugene Levy. Wonder who played the “Father of the Bride”?)
– “People Magazine”
• The personal assistant Britney Spears hired and then fired in the space of just a month is reportedly planning to sell her story. Shannon Funk claims Spears didn’t ask her to sign a confidentiality agreement and she’s been offered $500,000 to reveal photos and ‘intimate secrets’ about her former boss. (Wow, 30 whole days of memories!)
– StarPulse News Blog
• DC Comics plans to publish a hardcover collection of graphic novels based on NBC-TV’s Emmy- and Golden Globe-nominated hit show “Heroes”. The stories, which mark the first printed graphic novel adaptation of the show, have so far only been available on the official “Heroes” website.
– newsarama.com
• 30-year-old “Heroes” actor Zachary Quinto (‘Sylar’) has landed the role as the new ‘Mr Spock’ in the upcoming “Star Trek” prequel. 76-year-old original ‘Spock’, Leonard Nimoy, will also appear in a cameo. Original ‘Captain Kirk’, William Shatner, is also expected to be added to the cast. The JJ Abrams’ film will chart the early years of the ‘USS Enterprise’. (Because just about every other possible storyline has been milked dry by now.)
– “Contact Music”
• Meantime, a 10-disc HD DVD set of the of the original “Star Trek” TV series is scheduled for release on NOVEMBER 20th, which will be enhanced with digital special effects in hi-def. The MSRP will be a whopping $217.99. (Got that in your ‘geek budget’?)
– “Home Media Magazine”
• Usher & expectant fiancée Tameka Foster have confirmed that they called off their wedding on the morning of the big day. No reason was given for the duo’s decision to hold off on the vow swap, scheduled to take place in the Hamptons SATURDAY. It’s also unclear if the couple remains together. (Seems that even in the sizzling heat of summer, somebody got cold feet!)
– “E!” Online”
• “Dreamgirls” actor Eddie Murphy has presented girlfriend Tracey Edmonds with a ginormous yellow diamond engagement ring, but don’t expect a huge blow-out wedding. Murphy’s first wedding to Nicole Mitchell in 1993 (they split in 2005), was a lavish $1.5-million affair, ranked as one of the all-time most expensive celeb weddings by “Forbes”. This one, a friend says, will be private, low key, and romantic. (Will his daughter via Scary Spice, Mel B, be invited?)
– “OK! Magazine”
• And 19-year-old pop star Hilary Duff, who kicked off a 12-city Canadian concert tour SATURDAY in Winnipeg, has apparently snagged herself a Canadian hockey player, 26-year-old Edmonton native Mike Comrie, the ex-Oiler, ex-Senator who recently signed a 1-year deal to play for the NY Islanders. They’ve been spotted out on romantic dinners in Southern California.  His father Bill Comrie is founder of The Brick furniture store chain. (Then he should understand that with Hilary ‘You Do Not Score for 15 Months! Not Till October, 2008!’)

When shown pictures of animals, young children were accurate 31% of the time in identifying pictures they’d previously seen. Adults were only accurate 7% of the time. (Kids remember everything until they go to school and get their memories plugged with ‘knowledge’.)

THIS OLD HOUSE:
Traditional buildings with solid walls are more eco-friendly than modern structures because they need less cooling in summer, according to a new British study. Researchers for Robert Adam Architects, a group of traditional designers, found that buildings with solid walls cost 15-to-20% less to cool than modern designs with lots of window glazing. (In the winter your can freeze your patootie off , however, thanks to those 6-inch gaps in the window frames.)

FOR THE RECORD:
With 18 months left in office, George W Bush could set a new record for the most unpopular US president in the history of modern polling. The most recent stats show 65% of Americans are now unhappy with his job performance. In polls going back to 1938, only twice has a president been given such a disapproval rating: Harry Truman scored 67%t during the Korean War and Richard Nixon hit 66% … 4 days before resigning.
