BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Apparently, Meghan Markle has no time for commoners snapping pics of her at Wimbledon. Her security demanded that people turn their lenses away while she watched Serena Williams compete. British media consultant Sally Jones says that she was sitting in the members box, taking pics of Serena Williams when one of Markle’s bodyguards came up and said, “Would you not take photographs of the Duchess? She’s here in a private capacity.” Jones says she told the security guard she had no intention of photographing Markle, and wasn’t even aware she was there.
(But thanks for the tip!)

★ WarnerMedia has finally named its upcoming streaming service — “HBO Max” — and confirmed that it will have the exclusive rights to the former NBC sitcom “Friends” that has most recently been available on Netflix. The service is expected to launch in Spring 2020. Its programming will be centered on programming from HBO, Warner Bros, New Line, DC Entertainment, CNN, TNT, and others. HBO Max is expected to cost slightly more than the existing “HBO Now” streaming service, which is priced at $14.99 a month, significantly higher than Netflix, Hulu and the forthcoming Disney+ service.

★ “Stranger Things” season 3 has a lot going for it, from sailor outfits to nonstop ’80s references. And on Monday, Netflix confirmed that the hit series’ third installment is one for the books, as it broke the streaming service’s viewership record in the first four days of its release. According to Netflix, “40.7 million household accounts have been watching the show since its July 4 global launch, more than any other film or series in its first four days.” 18.2 million have already finished the entire season, which consists of eight episodes.

TO WEAR FOOTWEAR OR NOT TO WEAR FOOTWEAR:
It turns out that the best footwear just might be no footwear at all. In a new study, published in the journal “Nature” a team of researchers found that a “well-seasoned” (i.e. callused) foot gives us better protection than shoes. In fact, they suggest, shoes have actually desensitized our feet, while changing the way we walk. And over time, that has dramatically altered the human gait. The study found that barefoot walkers in countries such as Kenya, despite thick calluses on their feet, could very much feel the ground beneath their feet. In fact, even the thickest calluses didn’t dampen sensitivity. As thick as calluses are on the feet of barefoot walkers, they still feel the ground and transmit information to the brain. Shoes, not so much. That could be a major issue for people, especially the elderly, who have trouble maintaining balance, often resulting in serious injury. While the study’s author cautions that he isn’t saying that people shouldn’t wear shoes, he does suggest that more research is needed.
(Trust me, buddy, some people should NEVER be without shoes!)
(I thought the whole idea behind footwear is so you DON’T feel the ground…)
(This cannot be good news for the sock industry either…)

HEINZ DINNER?
If they can do it with a mini-turkey, why not with mac n’ cheese? Introducing…Macaroni and cheese in a can! For those of us who find the tedious process of boiling water, cooking the pasta and adding the cheese sauce, butter and milk WAY TOO complicated or time-consuming, you’re in luck — because now you can buy Heinz macaroni and cheese in a can on Amazon Canada. Yes, this ultimate convenience item has been on sale in the UK for years, but now you can have the delicious dish (or can, to be accurate), delivered right to your door on this side of the pond…for just $3.05 (plus shipping). To make a can of Heinz macaroni and cheese, you just empty it into a bowl and microwave, no mixing required. One online review noted that it’s “perfect for camping.”
(If you forgot all your other food, of course…)
(And add ketchup, of course)
(Just because you CAN, it doesn’t mean you SHOULD!)

FROM THE BS POLL VAULT:
A statistical look at who we are and the things we do …
• 20% of us say we would garden if we had more free time.
• 35% of us say we get stressed driving in wet weather.
• 26% of singles are turned on by someone who doesn’t have any social media accounts.
• 7% of single women want a man to read a poem when proposing.
• 50% of us say yoga pants should be banned from offices.
• 3% of pet owners have bought a pet stroller for their dog as a gift.

HOW TO AVOID IMPULSE PURCHASES:
(According to psychology experts…)
➠ Disable one-click spending:  If you find yourself online shopping more often than you or your budget would like, disconnect your credit cards and bank accounts from one-click purchases on websites you frequent. (I tried, but my wife kept hooking them back up!)
➠ Delay the gratification:  Separate yourself from your shopping cart before clicking “buy now”. Go ahead and add the items that are calling your name to your cart, but then wait at least six hours to finalize the purchase. Often, we get distracted and never go back to complete the purchase. (I’d be more likely to use those six hours to add more stuff to my cart!)
➠ Set an allowance:  Set a monthly or weekly online shopping budget, and dedicate one specific checking account (not a credit card) to those purchases. Transfer your spending allowance to this card, and once the money is gone, you have to wait until your next scheduled ‘allowance’ to spend more. (That’s my whole problem…I don’t have any money in the budget for online shopping!)
