BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Amber Heard entered the witness box in London on Monday where she testified that she was abused by her ex-husband Johnny Depp during their five-year relationship. According to her, Depp threatened to kill her “many times” and said “death was the only way out” of the marriage. Depp testified he was the victim of Heard’s verbal and physical abuse, which she denies. While the pair’s showdown in the U.K. is expected to end on Friday, they are entangled in another lawsuit in Virginia, where Depp is suing Heard for $50 million for defamation over her abuse claims.

★ Gordon Ramsay is reportedly set to cater Brooklyn Beckham’s wedding. He recently became engaged to actress Nicola Peltz, and with the groom’s parents, David and Victoria Beckham, planning to spare no expense on the couple’s big day, they are keen to ask their close friend Ramsay to take charge of the meals that will be served to guests. A source says that not only are the families “close pals”, but Brooklyn has raved about Ramsay’s cuisine in the past.

★ Marilyn Monroe’s pearls from her last ever photo shoot could be yours. The historic jewelry is hitting the auction block. She wore faux pearl earrings and slipped on a faux pearl necklace for the photo spread — famously known as the “Last Sitting”, a session which took place just 6 weeks before her death in 1962. The earrings are expected to bring in $50,000, and the necklace $8,000. Some of Monroe’s extensive wardrobe is also part of the auction. A gown and shawl are estimated to go for $40k and a pair of black and white checkered pants could fetch $15k.

• Kanye West – Friends and associates are growing increasingly concerned for him after he turned on his own family in a series of Mon. night tweets, targeting Kris Jenner, comparing his life to the movie “Get Out” and accusing Kim Kardashian of trying to commit him to a mental hospital. That followed his now-infamous comments about Harriet Tubman at a presidential campaign stop in South Carolina on Sunday.
• Nicki Minaj – is expecting her first baby with husband Kenneth Petty. Not only did she reveal she’s pregnant after months of speculation, but she also dropped the first baby bump photos, and based on size, she’s well into the pregnancy.
• Mariah Carey — is celebrating three glittering decades in the music industry with weekly releases of items from her personal vault and rarities from her career. Weekly #MC30 releases will include digital EPs, remixes, bonus cuts, rare tracks, acapella moments and live performances. The music will be accompanied by video footage, photos, personal notes from Carey and physical releases.
• Van Halen – Eddie Van Halen’s son Wolfgang has suggested his father isn’t done with performing. They haven’t toured since 2015 and singer David Lee Roth recently claimed that they are unlikely to tour again. But Wolfgang, who plays bass for the band, commented on the article about Roth, writing: ”Yeah I don’t really think that’s up for him to decide.”
• Dokken –Several months after suffering nerve damage during spinal surgery, frontman Don Dokken has revealed that his guitar-playing days are behind him. As he put it, “It’s over. My right hand is paralyzed.” His voice is unaffected.
• KISS — will bring their “End of The Road” tour to Europe next summer. They were due to tour there this summer, but because of the pandemic, those shows are now set for June and July 2021. Their planned performances in Norway, Lithuania, Portugal, Poland and Bulgaria were unable to be rescheduled.
• Carrie Underwood — has officially announced her first-ever holiday album “My Gift” will drop on Sept. 25. She posted a video taking fans behind the scenes of the making of the album, which will contain “a combination of beloved traditional favorites celebrating her faith…as well as original material.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/yyvg6grf
• Jana Kramer — During a recent episode of her podcast “Whine Down With Jana Kramer and Michael Caussin”, she admitted to “Real Housewives of New Jersey” stars Joe and Melissa Gorga that she auditioned for the reality TV show in May. Was she accepted? She says she hasn’t heard back yet.
THERE’S NO ACCOUNTING FOR TASTE – OH, WAIT…
Why is it that you like the music that you like? Is it the singer’s voice? The sound of the musicians on the recording? Nope. A new study says that your taste in music may actually not be about the songs as much as the musician’s personality. A team from Bar Ilan University in Israel says people usually like other people they can easily relate to, and it’s no different when choosing your favorite musicians. Their study found that many bands and musicians create a public persona for themselves that makes them more accessible to their fans. Fans are usually quite similar to the persona of their favorite artists. The researchers pointed out that their study examined the relationship between the fans’ personalities and how artists are PERCEIVED. They did not study the actual personalities and behavior of the artists.
(And as for those singers with NO public persona…well, we’ve never heard of you. Except for you, Imagine Dragons guy!)
(Fans tend to be attracted to musicians with a similar personality to themselves? If you’re an Oasis fan, I’ve got bad news for you…)
(Should I be concerned that in my opinion, The Monkees are the greatest group of all time?)

A HALF-PAIR OF SHOES:
Online shoe and clothing retailer Zappos is now selling single shoes…and mixed sized pairs. It’s part of a push to cater to shoppers who naturally have different-sized feet, as well as those with prosthetics, which can create a need for mixed-size shoes, as well as those missing a foot or leg. Zappos.com, which is owned by Amazon, will initially offer the option for just six brands (Nike, BILLY, Converse, PLAE, Stride Rite and New Balance). The company already sells an assortment of shoes for those with disabilities, and says it has received many requests from people wanting a single shoe or different sized pairs.
(This could also come in handy for those with a puppy!)
(I HEARD they were having a half-off sale…)
(What about shoes for those with two left feet? Asking for a friend…)

OLD DOGS – NEW TRICKS:
German researchers say that how your dog communicates with you depends largely on your actions. In an experiment, they separated pets from their owners. While the human waited in a different room, a researcher placed one of the pooch’s favorite toys in one of four boxes. When the owner entered the room, the dog would try to show where the toy was hidden. If it was able to successfully show his or her owner the location of the toy, they’d be rewarded with a prize. What they found is that if an owner vocally encourages their pooch to find the toy, the dog always put more effort into their “showing” actions. Unfortunately, this extra vigor also often leads to decreased accuracy, possibly due to the dog’s excitement at its owners’ encouragement. It’s the first piece of research to suggest that an owner’s actions can shape their pup’s communicative accuracy, and could impact future training methods.
(If a dog’s actions depend on what its owners does, I’m going to have a tough time explaining how I trained my Bowser to pee in the backyard!)
(Can we somehow make my teenagers this eager to please?)
(I’m not so sure my dog is ever THAT excited to help me do stuff!)

ACTIVITIES TO IMPROVE YOUR PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH:
⇒ Learn something new: People who have made a habit of learning generally have better physical and mental health, including reduced risk for heart diseases and obesity, healthier habits, better wellbeing and cognition, and a stronger sense of purpose in life. So, pursue a new skill.
⇒ Join a sport or social club: You know that playing a sport is good for you physically, but it is also good for your mental health. Similarly, non-exercise pastimes like card and board games, crafts, even videogames or singing in a choir can be good for your physical and mental health.
⇒ Volunteer: doing so is associated with enhanced mental health, more physical activity, fewer functional limitations, and lower risk of mortality. It can provide a sense of meaning and purpose, improve self-esteem, solidarity, and compassion.
⇒ Political or community involvement: Community engagement is generally associated with better physical and mental health and wellbeing, and is linked to sustained cognitive health. (I don’t see how being involved in politics can be healthy for anybody these days…!)
⇒ Religious or spiritual activity: A large volume of research shows these are beneficial to mental health. These benefits positively impact physical health by improving immune function and lowering the stress response.

DID YOU KNOW?
The world is pinning its hopes on a COVID-19 coronavirus vaccine, but will a vaccine alone be enough to stop the pandemic and allow life to return to normal? In a study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, a computer simulation found that a coronavirus vaccine’s effectiveness may have to be higher than 70% or even 80% before we can safely stop relying on social distancing. By comparison, the measles vaccine has an efficacy of 95%-98%, and the flu vaccine is 20%-60%. That doesn’t mean a vaccine that offers less protection would be useless, but it would mean social distancing in some form may still be necessary.

• “Lion’s Share Day”, A “lion’s share” is an idiom meaning “the largest part of something divided amongst others.” The expression comes from one of Aesop’s fables, where a lion asks animals to help him hunt, and afterwards tells them why he should get to keep all parts of the spoils.
• “Pi Approximation Day”, today’s date, written in the date/month format, is 22/7. That’s an approximate value for pi. Don’t confuse today with Pi Day, observed on March 14th.
• “Hot Dog Day”, they gained in popularity in the United States in the early twentieth century, and are similar to frankfurters and wieners, which take their names from Frankfurt, Germany, and Vienna, Austria. In the United States, hot dogs were traditionally sold at hot dog stands and carts.
