There’s No BS Like Show BS …

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Some might call it a “Lo blow”, but Jennifer Lopez seemingly sent a strong message to husband Ben Affleck, by sharing a breakup song amid rumors the couple is headed for divorce. J-Lo posted a clip of her 2021 music video for ‘Cambia el Paso’ on Instagram. In the video, she sensually dances and rolls around in the sand, singing lyrics which, translated from Spanish to English, include: “Her life is better now without him”, and “He doesn’t deserve to have her in his arms.” Lopez captioned her post: “Happy Anniversary Cambia El Paso”. Meanwhile, Affleck was seen smirking as photogs snapped pics of him wearing his wedding band. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3s97bv89

★ Cara Delevingne is thankful she was sober when her $7 million mansion burned down in March. In an interview with The Times, she said: “It sucks but everyone was safe and…if I’d not been sober I would still be reeling over that.” Her LA home caught fire March 15, while she was in London for her stage role as Sally Bowles in “Cabaret”. Delevingne had stopped drinking and doing drugs after a rehab stint before the fire, and said: “I used to think drugs and alcohol helped me cope . . . but they didn’t, they kept me sad and super depressed. I feel like I’ve got my power back and I’m not being controlled by other things.”

★ Start your engines: The teaser for a new Formula 1 racing movie starring Brad Pitt has dropped. And we now know its title, too: “F1”. The Apple Original Films movie follows Pitt as a former Formula 1 driver who returns to the sport and partners with and mentors a rookie teammate, played by Damson Idris. Kerry Condon, Javier Bardem, Tobias Menzies, Sarah Niles, Kim Bodnia and Samson Kayo round out the cast for the film, which opens June 27, 2025. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/222j9fbp

★ The live-action adaptation of “Moana” is set to begin production in August. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson announced the news in an Instagram post that featured Catherine Laga’aia as ‘Moana’, John Tui as ‘Chief Tui’, Frankie Adams as ‘Sina’ and Rena Owen as ‘Grandma Tala’. Johnson will reprise his role as ‘Maui’, having played the demigod in Moana and its sequel. The Rock wrote: “It’s our deepest honor to share the legends, songs, dances and traditions of our Polynesian culture with all of you…Production begins this August.” The live-action film will debut in theaters next summer. ★ The Avengers have re-assembled. High-profile members of the cast of 2012’s “The Avengers” reunited recently to record the movie’s dialogue in Lakota, the language spoken by the Lakota people of the Sioux tribes. The effort was spearheaded by activist actor Mark Ruffalo, who produced the 2022 documentary “Lakota Nation vs. United States.” Ruffalo, who played ‘The Hulk’ in the Marvel movies, said that the project, which was a “fun thing”, came about due to his “relationship with the Lakota people.” It saw Ruffalo reunite with Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans, who each rerecorded their character’s dialogue alongside Lakota actors, who recorded dialogue for lower-profile characters.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Taylor Swift – A fan who attended an Eras Tour show has put her contact lenses up for sale for a “massive” amount. The used contact lenses “that have seen Taylor Swift” are being sold for just over $1,400 in what the UK press is calling “a joke at the expense of dedicated Swifties who will fork out cash on anything the star has been near.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/bddka7jw
• Justin Timberlake — Less than a month after being arrested for driving while intoxicated, he and business partner Tiger Woods plan to open a bar in Scotland. The 2 are shareholders in a real estate company which will transform a theater in St. Andrews into an “upscale sports bar” complex that will include sports simulators, a bowling alley, darts area, and will continue to use 2 of the cinema’s screens.
• Pat Benatar – She and husband Neil Giraldo have updated fans on their musical “Invincible”, a retelling of Shakespeare’s “Romeo & Juliet” using their music. The musical opened in 2022 in Beverly Hills, but after mixed reviews, Benatar says they are “tearing it to shreds and starting over.” Giraldo added that the musical will be “different and the same at the same time.”
• Mötley Crüe — Nikki Sixx is in favor of the band continuing as avatars once the real-life group members are done. Quote: “How great for your band…to be able to go forward for generations and generations. So, I think, when the time is right, put us in a coffin and fire up those avatars.”
• Oasis — Noel Gallagher will undergo knee replacement surgery after being hit by arthritis. The 57-year-old was already forced to undergo a major hip operation in April. His estranged brother Liam also suffers from the condition.
• Luke Combs – His oldest son, Tex, turned 2 last month, and the family celebrated with a birthday cake fit for a budding little farmer. It was decorated in John Deere green icing, and embellished with mini crop patches, ears of corn and a toy front end loader. Luke’s wife Nicole posted pics, showing the cake read “Happy Birthday Tex” in white letters. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/ycywda57
• Zach Bryan – Last Thursday, he released his new album “Welcome to The Great American Bar Scene”, featuring collabs with Bruce Springsteen, John Mayer and John Moreland. Of the record’s genesis, he wrote that he “saw the lights of Paris…rode the coast of Australia with a beautiful woman, was locked in a pub until 7am in Ireland…thought I was going to bleed out in a field in Tennessee, and spent a few hours in handcuffs”, among other things. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/mbdmwvt3
• Reba McEntire — has given her latest release ‘I Can’t’ the dance remix treatment. She teamed with Grammy-winning DJ Dave Audé to drop her ‘I Can’t – Dave Audé Remix’. Reba will return to TV this fall for season 26 of “The Voice”, and the new sitcom, “Happy’s Place”, both on NBC. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/ynur2n49

SHOOTING THE BULL

OVER YOUR DEAD BODY:
It has often been said that hardcore sports fans “live and die” with the fortunes of their team. So maybe it makes sense that the University of Nebraska is considering the idea of allowing super fans of its football team to buy plots to be buried underneath the stadium. The proposal is a fundraising idea, in which the school would sell spots in a burial columbarium, which would be used to inter the ashes of departed fans underneath the 85,000-seat Memorial Stadium. The school is facing a $58 million budget shortfall, and is looking to raise funds in any way possible. And before you dismiss the idea as dead in the water…err…dead in the stadium, be aware of the levels of dedication among some US football fans: The people of Green Bay, Wisconsin have been warned that dumping human ashes on their field can result in a fine of over $1,300. That happened after a Philadelphia Eagles fan ran onto the playing surface of Lincoln Financial Field during a game, and spread his mother’s ashes there.
(This offer open to “die-hard” fans only!)
(So, finally, Jimmy Hoffa won’t be the only guy buried underneath a stadium?)

2 GUINNESS, PLEASE:
➢ Two Idaho men spent 1 hour, 8 minutes and 52 seconds passing a giant inflatable ball back and forth a total 7,827 times, to reclaim their Guinness World Record. David Rush, a serial Guinness World Record-breaker on a mission to hold the most records concurrently, teamed up with Seth Lemmons to recapture the record they originally set with 4,169 passes in 2021. The reclaimed record brings Rush’s current total of records to 179. He needs to hold 181 titles concurrently to take the top spot in the world. (Which, of course, be another record, making it 182…)
➢ A Las Vegas man broke a pair of eye-popping Guinness World Records — using the strength of his eye sockets. Andrew Stanton appeared on Italian TV series “Lo Show Dei Record in Milan” and took on the records for the ‘heaviest weight pulled with eye sockets’ and the ‘heaviest weight lifted with both eye sockets while swallowing a sword’. For the first title, he attached large metal hooks to his eye sockets and used them to pull a Cadillac and driver — totaling 5,319.75 pounds (2,413kg) — across the TV show’s stage. Next, he swallowed his sword and used the hooks in his eye sockets to lift his 130-pound (59kg) assistant. And what does Stanton do for his day job? Surprise, surprise: He’s a sideshow performer. (Was that “sideshow”, or “freakshow” performer?)

WEIGHT A MINUTE:
⇒ A University of Sydney researcher is recommending that those who are trying to lose weight, should weigh themselves weekly, not daily. Nick Fuller lists among the reasons that we should monitor weight every 7 days: It helps account for normal weight fluctuations due to recent food intake, hydration, hormonal changes, etc., and weekly weighing also helps avoid scale obsessions – which can lead to self-sabotage. Fuller also points to a study that found those who weighed themselves weekly or daily over several months lost more weight than participants who didn’t weigh themselves at all. But there was no added benefit with daily weighing. (There’s also no benefit to reminding your spouse to weight themselves daily…trust me!)
⇒ If your plan is to buff up for the beach this summer, you’re almost out of time. According to a recent survey, the average person believes it takes 6 weeks of a new fitness regime before you’ll be able to spot a physical difference. But the good news is this: Once they’ve seen results in themselves, 54% say it’s “easier” to maintain their routine. The poll of 2,000 adults in the US also found that the most common experiences that make people feel out of shape and motivated to work out include: running out of breath often (49%) and trying on clothing that no longer fits (46%). In fact, 29% said they realized they were out of shape after not being able to walk up a flight of stairs without feeling winded. (I can’t even walk DOWN a flight of stairs without feeling winded!)

CHILDHOOD MEDICAL MYTHBUSTING:
✗ Ginger ale relieves stomach aches: While actual ginger CAN help ease a stomach ache, most commercial ginger ales don’t actually contain the real thing. And carbonated beverages can actually make stomach pain even worse, by increasing gas in the digestive tract.
✗ Gum stays in your stomach for 7 years: Do we have to go here? While swallowing gum is not recommended, if you do so accidentally, you will likely pass it like any other indigestible food (such as my cooking) . . . within 2-5 days.
✗ You shouldn’t swim for 30 minutes after eating: This myth stems from a theory that blood flow will be diverted from the arms and legs to help digest food, potentially leading to an increased risk of drowning. Abdominal cramping is also a historical concern. But a study showed no effect on performance in the water after a meal. (This was actually made up as a way to get kids to help wash the dishes before swimming at the cottage…)
✗ Chicken soup cures a cold: This one has been around since at least the 12th century. The problem? While chicken soup is warm and comforting when you’re sick, it’s not a cure. But drinking any hot broth can help clear your stuffed sinuses. (So can running up and down the stairs!)
✗ You’ll ruin your eyes if you sit too close to the TV: While doing this will not damage your eyes, it may cause eye strain. Experts recommend keeping the room well-lit and taking occasional breaks from the screen. (Thank goodness! I got my kids VR headsets for Christmas…and it’s hard to get closer to a screen than that!)

DID YOU KNOW?

Researchers say that early birds tend to be more religious than those who prefer to stay up late at night. Some people naturally prefer waking up early in the morning, while others like staying up late, and a third group falls somewhere in between. And prior research has linked being a “morning person” with having generally higher life satisfaction and being more conscientious. But in a study carried out last year, a team from the University of Warsaw found that there is a possibility that religiosity contributes to the relationship between being a morning person and enjoying higher life satisfaction. (After hearing this, I’d like to take this time to ask for forgiveness for the first words that come out of my mouth each morning when the alarm goes off at 3:30!

BS CHRONOMETER 07.09.24

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Sugar Cookie Day”, honoring the cookie that is so delicious, yet so simple. All you need is sugar, flour, butter, eggs, vanilla, and baking powder (and insulin…)
• “Call of the Horizon Day”, if the idea of following your dreams over the horizon has ever called you, take the time to follow today! (Keep the dream alive – hit ‘snooze’!)
• “No Bra Day”. Although this has been officially moved to Oct. 13, as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, many choose to celebrate on both dates. It’s fairly self-explanatory, but you can also show your ‘support’ by wearing something purple (or LACK of support?).
• “Don’t Put All Your Eggs In One Omelet Day”. This comes from the saying: “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket,” meaning “Don’t put all your faith (or time, or money, etc.) into one thing”, because that one thing could fail, and you’ll be left starting from scratch.
• “Fashion Day”. On this day, people sport their best fashionable looks, and post pictures on social media. (As opposed to any other day, when we wear our most UNfashionable stuff?)
• “Cow Appreciation Day”. Celebrated since 2005, this holiday was created by Chick-Fil-A in order to acknowledge all the hard work cows do for us, from providing us with food and fuel, to helping promote a sustainable environment. (But we’ve HERD that the restaurant is NOT giving away “cow meals” this year…) LINK: https://tinyurl.com/bsrafmf6
