Another Sheetload of Bull!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
A coalition of musicians is calling for a boycott of CBS-TV due to the recent changes to the “Grammy Awards”, whereby the number of categories & awards have been cut back (yeah, we’re gonna miss that ‘Best Hispanic Alternative Metal Gospel Country’ award) . . . Former pop singer Justin Timberlake & digital advertising group Specific Media have bought MySpace for an estimated $35 million and plan to turn it into an entertainment ‘hub’ where artists and fans can share music and videos (News Corp paid a whopping $580 million for MySpace in 2005 – oops!) . . . Pippa Middleton, younger sister of new Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, has become a media darling due to numerous appearances at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships, once in a see-through dress (is little sis’ needing attention?) . . . Singer-turned-designer Victoria Beckham was scheduled to become a mother for the 4th time yesterday when her baby-daughter was due for delivery by caesarean (will she be feeding via the Spice rack?) . . . “Pirates Of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” has now passed the $1-billion benchmark in worldwide box office (the 9th movie to accomplish that feat) . . . 26-year-old actress Scarlett Johansson’s divorce from 34-year-old actor Ryan Reynolds has now been finalized, thereby dissolving their 3-year marriage (Reynolds quote: “Anyone who gets divorced goes through a lot of pain, but you come out of it. I’m not out of it yet … at all.”) . . .  22-year-old actor Daniel Radcliffe tells “GQ” magazine he became ‘reliant on alcohol’ when he was 18 but gave it up for good last August (OMG, ‘Harry Potter’s an alch-y?) . . . And 25-year-old actor Shia Labeouf has revealed in a new interview that the latest “Transformers” movie will be his last (you should have said that back in 2007, bud’).

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Adele – She tells “Q” magazine she intends to take more control of her next album and wants the follow-up to “21” to be ‘more acoustic’.
• Cee-Lo Green – He’s set for a double dose of “The Voice” (NBC) next year as he’s also been offered a coaching job on the upcoming British version of the TV talent show.
• Chris Brown – He’s joined the ‘planking’ craze by posting a Twitter pic of himself balanced precariously on a shelving unit.
• Prince – He required that a limousine drive him from his dressing room to the stage at the weekend “Hop Farm Festival” in Kent UK. Total distance … 25 meters (about 80 ft).
• Selena Gomez – She tells “Daily Record” she’s mostly given up surfing the Internet since she’s constantly being trashed by Justin Bieber fans who are jealous of her relationship with him.
• Sting – He’s cancelled a concert in Kazakhstan on the advice of Amnesty International, which contends his appearance could be interpreted as an endorsement of the president and that would go against Sting’s longtime support of human rights.
• Usher – He tells “Fabulous” magazine he wants a woman in his life in order to make him a ‘better man’, but it won’t be Rihanna because she’s ‘like a sister or a cousin’ to him. He does, however, admit they’ve kissed. So a kissing cousin, apparently.
• Willie Nelson – His misdemeanor drug charge for marijuana possession last November still isn’t settled. Last month he agreed to plead no contest and pay a $500-fine plus court costs, but Lubbock TX judge Becky Dean-Walker won’t sign off on the deal because she thinks it’s too lenient.

TODAY’S VIDEO RELEASES:

FROM THE BS POLL VAULT:
A BS breakdown of who we are and what we do …
• 87% of newlywed brides who had big formal weddings wished they had eloped.
• 75% of couples say their ‘passion’ peaks during vacations and lasts up to 4 weeks afterward.
• 65% of male respondents claim they could pick their genitalia out of a photo line-up.
• 62% of women & 42% of men think that ‘sexting’ is unacceptable.
• 33% of us have regrets about posting something online; over 50% of those under age 25.
• 21%  of parents set rules about who their kids can be friends with.

PET RESTRAINT:
With more pets traveling in cars, some animal advocates and law-enforcement agencies – as part of their campaign against distracted driving – are pushing seatbelt harnesses, car seats, and other restraints for dogs. Most of the gear still gives dogs some freedom of movement and a view out the window. About 89% of pets traveling in cars last year weren’t secured properly, according to advocacy group ‘Bark Buckle Up’. But that’s an improvement from 2008 when 98% were unsecured. (You used to tell ‘Buddy’ to jump in the back of your pickup … now you need a toddler seat.)

TWITTER QUITTER:
First there was ‘Twitter’, now’s there’s ‘ManageFlitter’. It’s a new app that provides ‘Twitter Account Management’ for doing such necessary things as …
– Cleaning up and managing who you follow.
– Finding out who isn’t following you back.
– Determining which inactive accounts you follow.
– Easily searching inside your Twitter stream.
(Or you could just get a life.)

SLAVE TRADE:
No matter how morally decent you think you are, you’re likely contributing to human trafficking. How so? Most of what’s in our medicine chests contains palm oil, which comes from eastern Cambodia, Sumatra, and other places where people are enslaved on plantations. There’s slavery on the fishing fleets of Southeast Asia, and a lot of the shrimp we eat comes from there. And all smartphones rely on a mineral called coltan, much of which is mined by forced laborers in the Democratic Republic of Congo. (Either manufacturers need to develop some scruples or we’ll have to boycott … everything.)

TOO STUPID FOR US TO MAKE UP:
• Zeltweg, Austria – Troops ordered to scare away storks from an air show were banned from using their guns and instead told to … stare at the birds. A local environmentalist helped organize the soldiers as they scouted out where a colony of storks gathered to feed and then encouraged them to engage in eye contact. Being stared at actually intimidates storks more than the sound of a gun or other explosive device. So while it might seem stupid … it worked!
– Orange.co.uk
• Boynton Beach, Florida – A 58-year-old landlord, upset about being owed rent, has set his 52-year-old tenant’s boxer shorts on fire … while he was wearing them. After an argument about rent money, the landlord allegedly splashed the tenant with rubbing alcohol and set his shorts afire. The tenant has been treated for minor burns; the landlord has been charged with aggravated battery.
– United Press International
• Krasnoarmeysk, Russia – A cash-strapped women’s soccer team near Moscow is hoping to draw more fans by … playing in bikinis. Even though FC Rossiyanka has won several championships and just may be the best women’s team in the country, few people have ever heard of them and even fewer show up at games. It’s hoped the publicity stunt of playing a match in bikinis will create some interest.
– Metro.co.uk
• Barbacoas, Columbia – More than 250 women in this rural town are participating in a ‘cross-legged strike’, withholding sex from their partners until a dangerous road in the region is fixed. They’re hoping the action will inspire their men to force the government to finally complete construction on the road, as it’s the only one that connects Barbacoas to the rest of the country. The government has been promising to repair the road for 20 years.

DID YOU KNOW?
• The average length of time that ships are hijacked by Somali pirates is 5 months.
• A tennis ball can lose up to 12.9 mph more post-bounce on a clay court vs a grass court.
