New installments begin airing on Oct. 7.

★ After Chapter 1 of Kevin Costner’s western “Horizon: An American Saga” bombed, Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema are delaying the release of part 2. It has been moved from its planned August release, “in order to give audiences a greater opportunity to discover the first installment of ‘Horizon’ over the coming weeks, including on PVOD and Max,” a spokesperson said. The plan is still to release the second part of Costner’s planned 4-part series theatrically, though the new release date has yet to be determined. Through 2 weekends, Horizon: Chapter 1 has grossed only $22.6 million domestically.

The 66-year-old previously said that her upcoming Netflix stand-up special will be her “last,” but further clarified that she’s done with performing entirely during a recent show. During the Q&A portion of her set, DeGeneres was asked whether she’ll appear on Broadway or in future films. Her answer: “Um, no. This is the last time you’re going to see me. BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Katy Perry — has officially announced the release of her upcoming 6th album “143”, out Sept. 20. She came clean on her socials shortly after fans sleuthed the album title, covers and release date on her official merch store. “143” is a code for “I love you,” often used in the 1990s in messages sent on pagers. Lead single ‘Woman’s World’ dropped last night. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5n6h66sn
• Kenye West – Ye appears to be calling it a career on the music front. Rich The Kid shared an alleged text message from West, which says: “I am retiring from professional music Not sure what else to do.” Rich deleted his snapshot of the text message exchange about 30 minutes after posting it.
• Shakira — will perform at the Copa América final on Sunday. She’ll sing during halftime at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, where 54,000 are expected to be in attendance.
• Celine Dion – “Today” host Heidi Kotb, who interviewed Dion in June, believes she is planning a surprise return performance, possibly at this summer’s Paris Olympics. On “Watch What Happens Live”, Kotb said that during their talk, Dion asked her manager, who was off camera: “Can I tell her?”, and he responded by screaming “No!”.
• Pearl Jam – Eddie Vedder has opened up about what felt like a “near-death experience” that caused the band to cancel shows in Berlin and London last week. Fans posted video of him telling the crowd in Barcelona over the weekend that “It felt like chest bronchitis. It felt like maybe you couldn’t breathe, and maybe you wouldn’t make it through the night”. No word on what ailed him. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5n8vr5br
• Kiss – ‘I Was Made For Lovin’ You’ has just hit 1 billion streams on Spotify. The 1979 hit is the band’s first song to join Spotify’s Billions club. The band shared on Instagram: “Thank you #KISSARMY! You streamed “I Was Made For Lovin’ You” over 1 billion times on @spotify!”. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/mvebhjst
• Drew Baldridge – has become just the 2nd artist to hit the top-10 on Billboard‘s Country Airplay chart – without a record label. The independent artist’s ballad ‘She’s Somebody’s Daughter (Reimagined)’ stands at #10 with a bullet, the first time a self-released single has reached such heights since Aaron Watson accomplished the same feat in 2017, with ‘Outta Style’.
• HARDY – “QUIT!!” (out today) might be his debut rock album, but it’s still kinda country. Quote: “I’m telling people this is my first attempt at a rock ‘n’ roll record. But you know me, there’s always going to be a country lyric there because I don’t know how to do anything else.” The single ‘Six Feet Under (Caleigh’s Song)’ is currently climbing the country charts.
• Toby Keith — Court documents show that his wife, Tricia Covel, has asked to be named the administrator of his estate. SUMMER TRENDS:
❑ Pickles are a hot item these days, especially with Gen Z. So why not pickle cupcakes? Pickle brand Claussen and Baked by Melissa have joined forces to create this first-of-its-kind dessert. (We think it’s a dessert, at least…) The “dill-icious pickle-infused cake and pickle buttercream icing complete with festive red and white sprinkles on top” was introduced this week, in celebration of “Pickle Month”. Claussen says it expects that pickle cupcakes “will be the perfect unexpected twist for pickle fanatics everywhere” this summer. (Kind of a big dill?) LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5n9995ra
❑ Casual clothing, a chilly treat and a look of dismay are the makings of this season’s hottest clothing trend, thanks to J-Lo’s always-edgy and allegedly estranged husband, Ben Affleck. Fashion fanatics around New York and beyond are ditching the designer labels to, instead, go for the “Affleck-effect”, the guy whose frumpy clothing choices and frequent looks of agitation – paired with an ever-present cold coffee drink, seem to deeply resonate with Gen Zs and millennials. Tastemakers are going with the “Gone Girl” star’s not-so-glitzy getup of vintage T’s, loose-fitting jeans and caffeine – along with an expression of boredom or disdain, and posting pics of themselves enjoying an iced coffee drink, usually with a hashtag or caption explaining that they are enjoying a “Ben Affleck Summer”. REAL BABY NAMES THAT PEOPLE TRIED TO TALK THE PARENTS OUT OF:
The BuzzFeed community was asked to share the baby names they tried to talk someone out of. Here are some of the most memorable stories . . .
⇒ “My next-door neighbor…is a maternity nurse. There was a young girl who wanted to name her daughter Latrina. Once she was told what a latrine was, she went in a different direction.”
⇒ “I had a pregnant coworker proudly tell me that she was going to name her daughter Claire. I asked what her middle name would be and she replied, ‘Annette.’”
⇒ “I know a girl whose last name is Cash, and her dad wanted to name her Penny. Luckily for her, mom vetoed it so she wouldn’t get bullied.”
⇒ “My cousin wanted to name her baby girl Rosacea. Yes, like the skin condition. She thought it sounded pretty…We all talked her out of it. My Dad won by telling her, ‘Please don’t jinx your baby with that name.’ Out of fear of accidentally pre-diagnosing her baby with rosacea, she opted for Rosa.”
⇒ “Senna. It’s the brand name of a commonly used over-the-counter laxative. My friend likes the name because it means flower or some kind of flower in his native language, so the name stayed.”
⇒ “Brooklyn or Harper as options for their firstborn boy and girl. (I said) Do you have any ideas that didn’t come from Posh Spice!?”
(***BONUS – CAUTION***) ⇒ “My friend who thought the name Harry was adorable. Their last name was Cox…When the kid turned 18, the first thing he did was legally change his first name…(and) when he got married, he took his wife’s last name.”

NEWS OF THE WEIRD:
➢ A Florida man is facing charges after he allegedly tried to withdraw 1 cent from a bank. Police say Michael Fleming entered the Chase Bank in Sumter County at 2pm last Saturday, and filled out a withdrawal slip for 1 cent and handed it to a teller. The bank teller reportedly told Fleming he couldn’t withdraw a penny. The man responded: “So you want me to say the other word?” In fear of possible violence, the teller called law enforcement. When deputies arrived, Fleming was still inside the bank and was taken into custody and held on $5,000 bond. (At this rate, it’s going to take a LOT of trips to the bank to pay for that!)
➢ A man was caught trying to smuggle more than 100 live snakes into China by stuffing them into his pants. Customs officers in Shenzhen intercepted the man travelling through a checkpoint between Hong Kong and mainland China. During inspection, he was found to have 6 drawstring bags sealed with tape in the pockets of his pants, each containing “a number of live snakes in various shapes and colours” authorities said. A total of 104 snakes were found in the guy’s pants. Fortunately for all involved, none of the species was venomous. (I bet it made a very interesting body-scan image!)

DID YOU KNOW?
The local government of an area of Japan has passed an ordinance requiring residents to laugh at least once every day, to promote better physical and mental health. The ordinance encourages residents of the Yamagata prefecture to snigger, chortle or guffaw daily — and asks businesses to “develop a workplace environment that is filled with laughter.” The 8th day of every month has also been designated as the day for “residents to promote health through laughter”. The initiative is a result of research that has linked laughter to better health and increased longevity. (Is this some kind of bad joke?)

BS CHRONOMETER 07.12.24

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Different Colored Eyes Day”, celebrating the diversity of eye color, as well as people whose eyes are a different color from one another. Celebs with what’s called ‘heterochromia’ include late rocker David Bowie, actress Mila Kunis, and actor Kiefer Sutherland.
• “Pecan Pie Day”, celebrating one of the most decadent of all desserts. The crust and pecans aren’t necessary … just the yummy goo in the center! Is it ‘PEE-can or ‘puh-CAHN’? Or is it ‘pee-CAHN’?
• “Simplicity Day”, a day to focus on ways to simplify your life. (Sounds complicated…)
• “Eat Your Jell-O Day”. Is it a coincidence that it’s also Bill Cosby’s birthday??
• “Paper Bag Day”. The paper bag has become a household staple. Uses include bringing your groceries home, carrying your lunch, curing hiccups, and making puppets. (And carrying a bottle?)
• “Etch a Sketch Day”, celebrating the toy, released on this day in 1960, that has entertained and fascinated generations of kids. It allows you to draw straight lines on a screen controlled by 2 knobs, a difficult skill to master, but eventually, impressive pictures can be made.
• “New Conversations Day”, aiming to raise interesting questions, spark genuine conversations, and spur the discovery of new things between friends, family members, and partners. (So…how ‘bout that weather, huh?) LINK: https://conversationstartersworld.com/250-conversation-starters/

SATURDAY:
• “French Fries Day”. The ‘French’ in French fries has nothing to do with France, but the method of preparation. Food that’s chipped into pieces is said to be ‘frenched’. It’s thought that French fries likely originated in Belgium. (And I thought they were first cooked in Greece!)
• “Beans ‘n Franks Day”. One way to get rid of the extra wieners when you buy ‘em in packs of 12, but buns come in 8-packs. (Tomorrow is “Evacuate the Studio Day”!)
• “Embrace Your Geekness Day”, a great day to be a Geek … or to know a Geek. Some people view the term with a negative connotation. Are they jealous of your knowledge and skills? Of your pocket protector? Of your taped glasses? (And if you’re not one, embrace one!)
• “Gruntled Workers Day”. We always hear about ‘disgruntled’ workers, but what about people who are happy with their job and can’t wait to go to work each day? Gruntled workers, this is your day … ya eager-beaver keeners.
• “Go West Day”, on the anniversary of the day in 1865 that Horace Greeley, founder and editor of the New-York Tribune, advised readers to “Go west young man”. (Great idea…at least until your GPS says, “Recalculating!”)
• “Barbershop Music Appreciation Day”, created in 2005 by the worldwide organization of women singers “Sweet Adelines International” to mark its 60th anniversary. Today, relax and enjoy the sweet voices of a Barbershop Quartet (…quartet…QUARTETTTTTTTT!)

SUNDAY:
• “Bastille Day”, the national holiday in France that commemorates the beginning of the French Revolution in 1789, when patriots stormed the Bastille prison. (“Off with their heads!”)
• “Grand Marnier Day”, celebrating the cognac concoction that’s used in mixed drinks (ie: Cosmopolitan) and in desserts (ie: Crêpe Suzette). It was an 1880s French invention by one Alexandre Marnier-Lapostolle.
• “International Non-Binary People’s Day”, aimed at raising awareness and organizing around the issues faced by non-binary people. The day was first celebrated in 2012, and the date was chosen for being precisely between International Men’s Day and International Women’s Day.
• “Shark Awareness Day”, to point out that these magnificent creatures are more threatened by people than people are by sharks. Demand for shark-fin soup and shark-tooth medallions combine to make sharks endangered, with millions killed each year.
• “Nude Day”, a serious celebration of the ‘naturist’ lifestyle. (So why does everyone laugh if they see me naked?)
• “Mac & Cheese Day”, an annual salute to the cheap food that we couldn’t have made it through college without. In Canada, the most popular brand is known as “Kraft Dinner”. In the US and Australia, it’s called “Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Dinner” or “Mac & Cheese”, and in the UK, it’s “Macaroni Cheese” or “Cheesey Pasta”. (Ketchup on it, or no?)
• “Pandemonium Day”, a day to embrace and even celebrate the pandemonium that often seems to surround us. (AKA – “Kid’s Day”!)
• “Tape Measure Day”, a great day to bust out the tape measure, buy a new one, or give one as a gift. There’s definitely one nestled in your toolkit or crammed in the back of a junk drawer. (I keep one in my panic room. Because desperate times call for desperate measures!)
