Forget ‘A-Rod’, 31-year-old movie actress Kate Hudson is now romantically linked to Muse frontman Matthew Bellamy (she’s become the Value Village of the dating world) . . . 37-year-old sorta actress Jenny McCarthy (1993 ‘Playmate Of the Year’) has a development deal with Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Productions and ‘possibilities’ are being explored across a number of platforms (like Oprah’s soon-to-launch OWN network?) . . . “Grazia” magazine is reporting that 41-year-old actress Jennifer Aniston has been secretly dating 34-year-old “SNL” comedian and “Bounty Hunter” co-star Jason Sudeikis, something they held off on until his divorce from a “30 Rock” writer was final (is it mandatory she boinks a co-star from every film?) . . . 24-year-old “Gossip Girl” actor Chace Crawford (‘Nate Archibald’) has been charged with misdemeanor pot possession in Plano TX and is facing up to 6 months in jail (cops found only an unlit joint in a car he was sitting in – but this is Texas!) . . . 47-year-old actress Jodie Foster has been accused of battery by a 17-year-old boy after an incident in a mall parking lot in which he attempted to take her picture (her rep claims the lad is a professional paparazzo) . . . “Twilight Saga” actors Ashley Greene (‘Alice Cullen’) & Kellan Lutz (‘Emmett Cullen’) have both stripped down to show off their toned bods on magazine covers, she on “Woman’s Health” and he on “Men’s Health” (it’s dueling abs!) . . . And the TV musical “Glee” is about to get all sexed up in a new X-rated parody as Hustler Video has announced “This Ain’t Glee XXX Parody!!” will be released on DVD next month, featuring a saucy, reworded performance of the Queen classic “Fat Bottomed Girls” (imitation is the sincerest form of – money-making).

• NERD – Today they release their 4th studio album, “Nothing”, said to be influenced by ’60s and ’70s psychedelic sound.
• Oasis – Today a new best-of set, “Time Flies”, is released. The 2-CD album compiles all of the now-defunct Brit band’s singles, with a deluxe edition including a bonus DVD of all the videos.
• Silversun Pickups – Tonight they kick off a headlining tour in Orlando FL. Against Me! and Henry Clay People are the opening acts.

WHY DOGS ARE DUMB:
Researchers believe that years of domestication have robbed pet dogs of the problem-solving skills they once had in the wild. According to a new Australian study, pet dogs fail basic intelligence tests that wolves and wild dogs pass with ease. On the upside, domesticated dogs prove far more adept at social interaction. (Leg humping, for instance.)

5. ‘Furius Baco’, PortAventura, Spain – Passengers are totally exposed on 3 sides while zipping along at an average of 84 mph.
4. ‘Steel Dragon 2000’, Nagashima Spa Land, Japan: It gets to 95 mph using only a traditional lift hill that rises 318 ft. With a length of 8,133 ft, this ride is the world’s longest.
3. ‘Tower of Terror’, Queensland, Australia: Shooting straight up into the sky on an L-shaped track, this magnetic induction shuttle coaster is one of the fastest on the planet at 100 mph.
2. ‘Eejanaika’, Fuji-Q Highland Park, Japan: Opened in 2006, this ‘4th dimension’ ride rises 249 ft, zooms along at 78-plus mph, and has seats that rotate 360 degrees in a controlled spin.

RECYCLED GLASSES ARE GOOKY:
“Good Housekeeping” magazine has studied 7 pairs of 3-D glasses from movie theaters in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut and didn’t find one sterile pair in the bunch. On those spectacles, the Good Housekeeping Research Institute found germs that can cause conjunctivitis, skin infections, food poisoning, sepsis, pneumonia, and even staph infection. If you’re really worried about the germs on 3-D glasses, you could always use a disinfectant wipe, which the study found reduces germ content by 95%. (This icky news has really gotta make you regret throwing down $17 to watch “Avatar”, no?)

GHOST RADIO:
A 70-year-old vintage tabletop radio at the Montrose Air Station Heritage Center in Scotland has been picking up radio broadcasts from the WW2 era. Several people have heard the vintage broadcasts, including the big-band sound of the Glenn Miller Orchestra and speeches by Winston Churchill. The broadcasts come at random and last up to a half-hour. What’s strange is … the radio isn’t plugged into a power outlet and technicians who’ve opened it up found nothing but cobwebs and spiders. (Creepy!)

THE ORIGIN OF ‘SOCCER’:
Both soccer and American football come from the same set of precursor sports, which first became popular at English schools in the early 19th century. Ultimately, the version adopted in the UK came to be known as ‘association football’, while another set of rules won out in the US. Americans took to calling the gridiron variety ‘football’, and referred to the British version by the slang term ‘soccer’, derived from the ‘soc’ in ‘association’. (Ironically, in American ‘football’ the ball is rarely kicked.)

• The ‘makarapa’ is the official headgear of South African soccer fans. Inspired by the construction helmets of miners, these custom decorated hard-hats have been a feature of the South African football scene for over 30 years.
