SHOOTING THE BULL
ROAD-RAGEOUS:
Does the drive to work leave you in a bad mood all day long? Is road rage a “thing” for you? If so, you may be dealing with a case of “accelerousal.” That’s according researchers at the University of Houston, who say some drivers have no problem staying calm, cool, and collected behind the wheel — regardless of traffic, the antics of other drivers, or other road nuisances. But others can’t help but feel like they’re going to explode. 11 drivers were monitored during a series of half-hour drives along the same route in the same minivan. Researchers found that about half of the drivers showed “peaked stress” during moments of “commonplace acceleration,” like stopping at a red light. The other drivers stayed calm. The scientists coined the term “accelerousal” to describe stress provoked by acceleration events, even small ones. They say some people may be genetically predisposed to experiencing “accelerousal”. “Accelaroused” participants were also found to be much more exhausted after driving than others drivers.
(It’s not that I’m prone to road rage, it’s just that ALL THOSE IDIOTS DRIVE AS IF THEY HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO DESTINATION IN MIND!!!)
(Apparently come of us just don’t feel right being seen in a minivan!)

COOKOUT LOOK OUT:
Summer has unofficially begun, and with pandemic measures begin relaxed in many places, lots of us are looking forward to barbecue season with great . . . uh . . relish. But there is one thing you need to know before you chomp down on that corn on the cob. The U.S. Department of Agriculture has released a warning, saying there’s one thing in particular you should NOT eat if you see it at a barbecue: Perishable food that’s been out for more than an hour. Quote: “When the temperature outside rises above 90°F Fahrenheit (32°C), perishable food such as meat and poultry, dips and cold salads, or cut fruits and vegetables are only safe to sit out on the table for one hour.” It states that after an hour, harmful bacteria, which can cause foodborne illness, may start to grow. So, maybe think twice before grabbing that second hot dog if you’re not so sure when it came off the grill.
(Oh, don’t worry! I’m pretty sure hot dogs aren’t perishable!)
(AN HOUR? Obviously, the USDA is not familiar with my family…)
(Of course, if my wife made the potato salad, no one would know the difference!)

BIDDING HAS REALLY TAKEN OFF:
Bidding for the chance to ride in Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin spacecraft has now reached $2.8 million. Since May 5th, 5,200 people have bid on the opportunity to secure one seat aboard the “New Shepard”, as it flies its first astronaut crew to space. What exactly would that kind of money get the winner? According to the Blue Origin website, most of your experience during the flight will be liftoff and re-entry into the atmosphere. The time the ship spends above the Kármán line—the altitude where space begins—is a little less than a minute. Weightlessness will occur for about 3 minutes, before you will have to re-buckle for re-entry. For the rest of your experience, you’ll be buckled in, along with 5 other—professional—crew members. But ship is designed with space tourism in mind. Each reclining seat has a massive 3-foot-tall window, and tablet-sized screens that show flight info. There is also the option to talk with ground control. The auction ends on June 12th. At the current top bid of $2.8 million, it would cost the auction winner $4,242 for every second of the 11-minute flight, set for July 20. LINK: https://www.blueorigin.com/
(I’m just not sure I’d want to fly on a spaceship made by a dude whose drivers can’t even find my house!)
(Hey, if Bezos’ former wife were the winning bidder, would that make her his “SpaceX”?)

DID YOU KNOW?
It’s finally about to happen. Disneyland is getting set to charge $100 for a sandwich. The “Family-sized Pym-ini” is made to feed 6-8 people, and the price clocks in at an official $99.99. The giant meal will be sold at Pym Test Kitchen (opening Friday), a restaurant located on Avengers Campus. The big bite is supposed to emulate the life of teeny superhero Ant-Man. At Pym Test Kitchen, the soda is gigantic and the condiments are even bigger. Starving patrons can chow down on the Pymini’s salami, rosemary ham, provolone, and sun-dried tomatoes spread out on a toasted focaccia bun. A solo version will run you $14.50. They also offer a “shrunken, child-size” version called “Teeny Pym-ini” for $10.

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Go Barefoot Day”, a day to enjoy the comforts and pleasant sensations of shedding footwear. Why? Because it feels great! The members of the ‘Society For Barefoot Living’ believe you should go barefoot all the time.
• “Rocky Road Day”, saluting the ice cream flavor that’s made with chocolate ice cream, nuts and marshmallows. (As immortalized by ‘Weird’ Al Yankovic in his Joan Jett parody, ‘I Love Rocky Road’).
• “Bubba Day”, honoring those formally named or just informally called ‘Bubba’. (We’re betting most of ’em live in ‘Dixie’.) A quick search for famous “Bubbas” reveals that all of the top 12 are nicknamed (rather than born with the name) Bubba, including President Bill ‘Bubba’ Clinton, Charles ‘Bubba’ Smith (“Police Academy”) and golfer Gerry ‘Bubba’ Watson Jr.
• “Yell Fudge at the Cobras in North America Day”. To keep the poisonous snakes off the continent, you’re supposed to go outdoors at noon and yell ‘fudge!’ Seems to be working.
• “Rotisserie Chicken Day”, This delicious style of chicken is cooked whole on a rotisserie or spit that turns continuously over a heat source, roasting it slowly. This sears the skin to seal in the flavor, resulting in a tender and juicy chicken. (And resulting in the dog laying around the kitchen all day, drooling).
• “Leave the Office Early Day”, an incentive to many who often work more than 40 hours each week. (And, of course, today will be the one day that the boss doesn’t!)
• “I Love My Dentist Day”, a big salute today to the people who CAN handle the tooth!
• “Global Running Day”, whether you’re a regular runner or a novice, today is about inspiring each other to lead a more active lifestyle, no matter the distance covered. Just grab your running shoes, a bottle of water, and get your legs moving! (I bought a pair of running shoes the other day. Let me know if you’ve seen ‘em.) LINK: https://globalrunningday.org/
