BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Johnny Depp is rumored to be getting paid over $300 million to return to “Pirates Of The Caribbean,” after being unceremoniously dumped from the franchise in 2018 amid abuse allegations by ex Amber Heard. A source close to Disney allegedly dropped the bombshell in a new interview with Aussie outlet Poptopic. The 59-year-old played the swashbuckling buccaneer ‘Jack Sparrow’ in 5 “Pirates” movies over the last 15 years, before Disney dropped him from 6th and “final” installment in wake of Heard’s Washington Post op-ed that Depp claimed defamed him as a domestic abuser.

★ Everybody remembers the first time they got into a fender bender. For Ben Affleck’s 10-year-old son Samuel, it reportedly happened on Sunday in a car worth nearly a quarter of a million dollars. According to reports, Ben and fiancé Jennifer Lopez went with Samuel — whom Affleck shares with ex-wife Jennifer Garner — to a luxury car rental dealership in Los Angeles. At some point, Sam apparently got behind the wheel of a yellow Lamborghini which had the engine running. It’s unclear — even in photos of the incident — exactly what happened, but it seems Sam somehow backed the luxury vehicle into a white BMW. On the other hand, the luxury car rental lot claims no accident occurred and the cars were simply parked close together. A rep for Ben Affleck said “Everyone is fine”, but offered no further details on the incident.

★ Jodie Sweetin, known for playing ‘Stephanie Tanner’ on “Full House”, was knocked back by police during an abortions rights protest, slamming her down to the concrete. Sweetin was with other protestors on an LA freeway when police began to block their path. She ended up close to officers when she was shoved back into the crowd — tripping over the curb and knocking her to the ground. Later, she told a reporter: “Our activism will continue until our voices are heard and action is taken.” She says she’s doing ok after the incident, which was intended to be a peaceful protest for abortion rights.

★ Tom Cruise has earned the biggest box office achievement of his 4-decade career, thanks to “Top Gun: Maverick” — a $1 billion grossing film. The movie’s global box office takings now total $1.006bn (£813m) after 31 days of release. Industry estimates say the movie crossed $1 billion worldwide on Sunday after it grossed $30.5 million domestic and $44.5 million in overseas markets. That brings its estimated total to $521 million domestic and $484 million international, putting it just past $1 billion globally. In doing so, it also passes “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” as the highest grossing film of the year.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Miley Cyrus — opened up about having Pete Davidson as co-host for NBC’s “Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party.” Quote: “We thought that Pete was ideal for that role. There is something about him that’s very classic and his professionalism is off the charts, but there’s also a danger there.” No word yet on whether he’ll be co-hosting the 2022 version.
• Justin Timberlake — blames his shoes and pants for those bad dance moves that went viral. In the wake of mocking parodies on TikTok, he posted a video on Instagram, saying: “I want to apologize to you for 2 reasons. He then flipped the camera to focus on his multi-colored sneakers, and also mentioned his “khaki vibe.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2p8893mb

In “E.A.T. With Gavin Rossdale”, he invites celebs and other people to his home in the Hollywood Hills, where he serves up a dish he prepared himself.

• Carrie Underwood – During an appearance on the Country Heat podcast, she said she loves singing about strong characters that don’t take anything from anybody. Quote: “I don’t sing love songs. I would rather kill a dude than talk about how much I love them.” (In a song, of course…)

SHOOTING THE BULL

FLIGHT RISK:
You know how, when you were a kid, all the stories you read and sci-fi movies you saw promised that by now, we’d be getting around in flying cars? Well, we’re at least one step closer. Tomasz Patson, owner of the Swedish company “Jetson” (that’s right, ‘Jetson’!) has completed the ‘first ever’ commute in an $83,000 space-age flying car. He piloted the “Jetson ONE” vehicle from his Italian home to a company building in Tuscany. He called the trip to the workplace a “momentous occasion for the electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) sector.” The Jetson ONE is powered by 8 electric motors, has a flight time of 20 minutes, and can reach a top speed of 63mph (102kph). The futuristic vehicle is constructed from a race car-inspired lightweight aluminium space frame and a Carbon-Kevlar composite body, and runs on a high-discharge lithium battery. Jetson has sold all of its production for 2022, and is taking orders for next year. The company says it is so easy to operate that they “can make anyone a pilot in less than 5 minutes. ME-OUCH!
It’s a common expression among cat owners: “She’s sitting there, judging me.” So common, in fact, that the internet is currently going wild for photos of “judgemental cats”. Tons of Reddit users are sharing pics of their critical creatures, who appear to be silently casting judgement on their owners with curled lips and squinting eyes. Felines with furrowed brows are also showing up on other social media platforms. The hashtag #judgmentalcat has more than 388,000 posts on TikTok. The but truth is, in spite of how it appears, “cats are not judgemental” says certified cat behavior consultant Marilyn Krieger. According to her, “there might be other things causing that expression. Perhaps the cat is feeling cornered…or maybe there’s a slight pain, or another animal [around]. People judge. That’s a human characteristic, not a feline characteristic.” And oddly, the feeling that our kitty is looking down at us actually has an upside: “A lot of people…think it’s cute and it will make them feel more warm and fuzzy towards the cat.”  LINK: https://tinyurl.com/ms94zbr8
(Well, I KNOW my cat’s judgemental – you can tell just by looking at him!)
(Is “certified cat behavior consultant” a nice way of saying “crazy cat lady”?)

DAIRY DEVELOPMENTS:
➠ Cheese-lovers can now wear their favorite dairy product on their fingertips, thanks to Velveeta cheese and British nail polish brand Nails Inc. A limited-edition set of 2 cheese-scented polishes are going for $15 on the Nails Inc. website. It includes 2 shades: “Finger Food,” a bright red, and “La Dolce Velveeta,” a creamy yellow color. The polishes’ signature cheesy scent only appears when they are dry. (Not recommended if you already have a problem with biting your nails!)
➠ Can soft-serve ice cream be hot? The small Japanese town of Hirata is daring tourists to try its ultra-spicy habanero-laced ice cream. Sprinkled with habanero pepper powder, this special ice cream is so hot, people need to sign a waiver before trying it. Those brave enough to give it a shot can opt for varying degrees of hotness, with the most extreme – ‘hellish spiciness’ – being offered at no charge if the challenger can finish it. (The way I cook, I, too, could sell food based on that premise!)

DID YOU KNOW?
Living near a busy road can increase your risk of premature death by a fifth, according to new research. Scientists from New York University say people exposed to above average levels of air pollution were 20% more likely to die over the next 14 years, mainly from cardiovascular disease. The study also shows that rates of heart attacks and stroke rose by 17% among those living near heavy traffic. The findings open the door to screening programs and preventive measures that could improve chances of survival.
