Tomorrow’s Show Prep Today!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ “Jurassic World: Dominion” has unearthed a tyrannosaurus-sized opening, earning an estimated $142 million in its opening weekend. While that’s a few steps below the $148 million earned 4 years ago by “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,” it has topped “The Batman” for the 3rd highest domestic opening of the COVID era. “Dominion” also shares another trait with its “Jurassic World” predecessors: it is proving to be critic-proof. While reviews for the film have been negative, with a 32% Rotten Tomatoes score, “Jurassic” devotees have given it a thumbs up with an A- on CinemaScore — the same as “Fallen Kingdom” — and an 81% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

★ Britney Spears’ relationship with parents Jamie and Lynne Spears has been fraught since the court battle that freed her from her 14-year conservatorship, and neither was invited to her wedding with Sam Asghari. But that didn’t stop the singer’s mom from weighing in on social media. Commenting on a post her daughter shared in which the bride and groom are kissing on a flower-festooned balcony, Lynn Spears wrote: “You look radiant and so happy! Your wedding is the ‘Dream’ wedding! And having it at your home makes it so sentimental and special!” She ended her comment with the words: “I am soooo happy for you! I love you!” Celebrities such as Madonna, Paris Hilton and Donatella Versace, who designed Britney’s wedding dress, were among those in attendance.

★ Having secured victory for Johnny Depp in his legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard, lawyer Camille Vasquez will once again be stepping into court to represent him. This time, Vasquez is one of the attorneys defending Depp against allegations that he assaulted location manager Greg “Rocky” Brooks on the set of “City of Lies” in 2017. Brooks claims that Depp punched him in the ribcage, then offered him $100,000 to hit him back. Brooks alleges he was fired from the film when he refused to promise not to sue. The trial is set for next month.

★ Rebel Wilson’s personal timeline of when to come out as gay was taken from her: A Sydney Morning Herald journalist admitted in a recent article that he and the paper had, out of an “abundance of caution and respect,” given her 2 days to comment on her new relationship with LA clothing designer Ramona Agruma. Thursday, the “Pitch Perfect” actress shared a photo of herself and Agruma to Instagram, writing, “I thought I was searching for a Disney Prince … but maybe what I really needed all this time was a Disney Princess.” The Herald’s article claims that Wilson “opted to gazump the story” instead of letting the outlet seemingly scoop her on her sexuality. Naturally, the article is drawing widespread backlash online, with many balking at the fact that prominent outlet would engage in such behavior, which the National LGTBQ Task Force says can be “deadly.”

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Justin Bieber — opened up about his health after cancelling 2 Toronto shows last week, saying in an Instagram vid that he’s been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, a virus that has left him with a form of facial paralysis. A follow-up post asks for prayers, because his condition is making it “progressively harder to eat”. LINK: https://www.instagram.com/p/CeorE9OjqX9/
• Beyoncé — The Bey Hive is speculating that she might be dropping new music soon. Not only has she had her profile pictures deleted across her social media accounts, fans noticed a placeholder image for her 7th studio album on her website. While this certainly isn’t definitive proof, Bey’s mom, Tina Knowles, liked a post on Instagram about it.
• Liam Gallagher – Last weekend, he played Knebworth in the UK, 26 years after a couple legendary shows there as a member of Oasis. Now, a fan is selling a small chunk of grass collected at the latest gig on eBay. The starting bid was £5, but at last check, the top offer was £65,100 (US $80,175).
• Ringo Starr — has suspended the remaining dates of his North American tour because 2 members of his All Starr Band (Edgar Winter and Toto’s Steve Lukather) tested positive for Covid-19. A second leg is rescheduled to begin Sept. 23, with the 12 postponed dates added to that itinerary.
• Jeff Beck and Johnny Depp — are set to release a joint album July 15 after the actor joined Beck for his European tour. The album, “18”, includes 13 songs, most of which are covers, including hits from the Beach Boys and Marvin Gaye. It will also include 2 Depp originals.
• Sara Evans – Her estranged husband Jay Barker has managed to avoid jail time for a January incident where he was arrested for trying to ram a vehicle into a car Evans was riding in. The former Alabama quarterback pleaded guilty to misdemeanor reckless endangerment, and must complete an intervention program and give up any weapons he owns. He was also sentenced to a years’ probation.
• Kelsea Ballerini – is a ballerina, at heart. On TikTok, she revealed that she has signed up for a ballet class, as a way of staying active while off the road. She says she “did 10 years of dance back in the day”, and from the looks of her technique, she has picked up where she left off nearly a decade ago. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5b8t6yk9
• Chris Stapleton — welcomed surprise guest Justin Timberlake for a duet of ‘Tennessee Whiskey’ during his LA concert on Friday. He introduced JT by saying: “I guarantee that most of you probably know me because of this man I’m about to bring onstage.” The 2 also performed the song during a show-stopping medley at the CMA Awards in 2015.

SHOOTING THE BULL

DOGGIE DATE:
New York City’s coffee scene has gone to the dogs. Black Lab Cafe has just opened on the Upper West Side, serving up treats for both humans and their 4-legged companions. It claims to be the first java joint of the canine kind. The owners’ black labs, Daisy and Lola, serve as mascots for the business. Puppy parents and their dogs enter through a vestibule with 2 sets of doors – just in case any make a run for it. There’s a seating area there, which connects to a second section, where humans can order food and coffee to bring back to enjoy with their furry friend. Dogs can enjoy gourmet grub, while humans get coffee and espresso drinks. The menu will soon be expanded to include sandwiches, smoothies, and alcoholic beverages. The rules posted on the wall asks customers to play nice, avoid humping, clean up any accidents and call the “dog bouncer” (an owner) if any help is needed.
(Warning: If your significant other is already jealous about how much you kiss and hug your dog, you won’t be doing yourself any favors by taking it out to a nice restaurant, too! Hide those receipts!)
(They’re gonna serve booze too? Welcome to “Yappy hour”!)

SMOKE ‘EM IF YA GOTTA:
Canada is set to become the first country in the world to require that a warning be printed on every cigarette. Mental Health and Addictions Minister Carolyn Bennett said the measure is meant to reach more people — including young people, who often share cigarettes and never see the warnings printed on packaging. A 75-day consultation period began Saturday, with the requirement, along with changes to cigarette packs to include a longer list of smoking’s health effects, expected to come into force in the latter half of 2023.
(I know! Imagine getting the one that tells you smoking causes impotence! I’d send that right back and tell them to give me the kind that causes cancer instead!)
(I can only say that I hope the ink they use to print warnings on cigarettes is safe to smoke!)

NEW GOOD NEWS:
➢ Have you seen the viral video yet of a man finding a kitten on the side of the road — only to be overrun by a dozen more hiding in the grass? Understandably, people have become a little obsessed. The man is Robert Brantley of Louisiana, and he simply couldn’t contain his surprise as the adorable ambush overtook him. Somehow, he managed to herd all 13 cats into his car and take them home. Soon after he told his story on Instagram, people from around the country were messaging to offer supplies and offering to adopt them. It didn’t take long before almost all of the kittens were spoken for, and he’s been posting updates. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/mryct7wh (If there was ever a perfect time to say “hot diggity”, like he does in the vid, this would be it!)
➢ A mother was left devastated after discovering that only a handful of kids had signed her son’s yearbook. When Cassandra Ridder’s 12-year-old son Brody, who struggled to make friends and has been subjected to relentless bullying, only brought home a few signatures, the Colorado mom decided to act. She shared a screenshot in a private Facebook group with the parents of the school, expressing her sadness. As word got out in the school community, more and more older students rallied behind Brody. They had even paid him a visit to his homeroom to sign his book. As many older children urged their friends to sign, Brody’s yearbook suddenly became full of countless heartwarming messages. After the story broke, even more people reached out to Brody, including “Ant-Man” himself, actor Paul Rudd, who video chatted with the boy, and the cast of “Dear Evan Hanson”, who gifted him with tickets to one of their performances. After the sweet gesture of the students, Cassandra said it made her “feel like there’s still hope. Not just for Brody, but for humanity.”

DID YOU KNOW?
Kitchen sponges harbor more bacteria than kitchen brushes, which may be a more hygienic way to clean your dishes, according to researchers in Norway. The study, published in the Journal of Applied Microbiology, says that while many bacteria are not harmful, those that are — like salmonella — can spread from sponges to hands, kitchen surfaces and equipment, and potentially make people sick. What surprised the researchers most was that it didn’t really matter how people cleaned their sponge or how often, when it comes to bacteria growth. Overall bacteria levels were found to be lower in used brushes than sponges.
