Sheeters Always Prosper!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ “Bridgerton” star Ruby Barker said she’s “happy to be alive” after being discharged from hospital over recent mental health struggles. In a video shared on Instagram last week, the 25-year-old revealed she was hospitalized after “struggling since ‘Bridgerton.’” Providing an update after leaving hospital on Monday, Barker — who is best known for her role as ‘Marina Thompson’ in the Netflix period drama — thanked everyone for their support, saying “You’ve made me feel so happy to be alive,” in a new video. She went on to say she “can’t wait for the future”, and is “in a beautiful environment right now, taking some time for myself to relax and breathe.”

★ Norm Macdonald’s final stand-up special, filmed before the comedian’s death in September, has made its way to Netflix with fellow funny people paying tribute to the late icon. In the opening credits for “Norm Macdonald: Nothing Special,” Netflix says: “We are honored to bring you Norm Macdonald’s last special, followed by reactions and commentary from a few of his special friends.” The special, released on Monday, includes appearances from David Letterman, Dave Chappelle, Molly Shannon, Conan O’Brien, Adam Sandler and David Spade. Norm McDonald: Nothing Special shows the comedian, who died after a private 9-year battle with leukemia, wearing a baseball cap and headphones and talking into a mic, pandemic Zoom style, in a nondescript room. Netflix says he shot the material “in one take” while “at home, the night before going in” for a medical procedure.

★ Jussie Smollett has bagged his first post-jail project. The “Empire” actor will make his directing debut in “B-Boy Blues”, which will premiere on BET+ on June 9, ahead of Pride Month. The movie is an adaptation of James Earl Hardy’s book, and it features Timothy Richardson, Ledisi, Brandee Evans, Heather B, Marquise Vilson, Jabari Redd, Broderick Hunter, and Thomas Mackie. The film was not only directed by Smollett, he also co-wrote the script with Hardy. Smollet was released on bond pending appeal after being sentenced in March for staging a false hate attack against himself in Chicago.

★ Dwayne Johnson’s daughter Simone Johnson has shared her professional wrestling name ahead of her WWE debut. Following in the footsteps of her father ‘The Rock’, 20-year-old Simone signed a deal with WWE in 2020, but her debut was postponed after she suffered injuries that required surgery. Recently, she shared her wrestling moniker, “Ava Raine”, on social media. And of course, some people criticized her for not making it clearer that she is connected to the Rock. She was having none of it, though, shooting back that she “could build my entire career around my father & people would still bash me anyway.” She’s actually a 4th-generation wrestler. Simone’s grandfather and great-grandfather were also pro wrestlers.

• Kate Bush — Thanks to “Stranger Things”, her hit ‘Running Up That Hill’ has hit the top of the charts for the first time – 37 years after its release. • Chris Janson – Performed in Nashville on Saturday night — and he had a very special guest in tow. His youngest son, Jesse Bo Janson, surprised the crowd by coming onstage and jamming out with his dad. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/bdddz55r
• Dan + Shay – Not only did they grow up going to his summer tours, now they’re his opening act. They shared a video message showing them standing in an empty Nissan Stadium in Nashville, and saying: “It’s an absolute dream come true for us to be on this tour…We wrote a song about what Kenny’s music means to us…At the end of the day, we’re still just fans.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/mr33eafs
• Keith Urban – shared a clip showing him kissing his wife Nicole Kidman after she walked onstage mid-performance in Vegas. She explains that she’s there to “get your jacket”, which he had left on the floor. Urban tells the audience, “She literally said, ‘Don’t lose that jacket. And I’m like, ‘How am I gonna lose the jacket?’” Sure enough, the jacket had disappeared. Thankfully, it was soon found. Urban’s caption: “Just a Saturday night in Las Vegas.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/46tya295

SHOOTING THE BULL

PURSE ALERT:
A body language expert says that how a woman holds her purse (or handbag) can reveal a lot about your personality. Patti Wood claims that wearing a purse in the crook of your arm shows that you are high-maintenance and worry a lot about social status. However, wearing a cross-body with the purse sitting in front of you means you prioritize protection and accessibility. Wearing it behind you demonstrates that you likely have a cool, calm, and collected personality. As you might imagine, the type of bag you use also says a lot about you. Those who wear backpacks are independent, and tend to want to take care of themselves and everyone around them. And those who carry their bags in their hands tend to be assertive, well-organized, and efficient.
(Actually, in my experience, if a woman is carrying a backpack, she’s usually a Mom of 3 or more kids, and has lots of snacks and juiceboxes with her!)
(And what’s it mean when a dude is carrying a purse for his partner? Never mind…I already know!)

OUTHORSING:
Because I’m sure there’s an absolutely HUGE market for it, Iceland has – ahem – ‘trotted’ out a service that lets horses reply to work emails for you while you’re on holiday. The world-first “OutHorse Your Email” service is designed to encourage travellers to switch off their technology and take an uninterrupted trip to their country. How can horses reply to emails? Using a large keyboard mat, they are able to walk, trot, canter and pace their way across the keys. And you can sign up for free! Unsurprisingly, though, the result is nonsense replies to work-related emails, similar to when your cat decides to take a trip across your laptop at home. Nonetheless, the head of “Visit Iceland” said “Don’t be foal-ish, enjoy a distraction free trip to Iceland and remember, if you do receive work emails while on holiday, Iceland’s horses have you covered.” LINKS: https://youtu.be/kbfD_lX1Tog  www.outhorseyouremail.com
(I’m not gonna come right out and say this is a publicity stunt . . . but if horses could reply to email, we’d all have lost our jobs long ago!)
(Admit it – it wouldn’t be the most nonsensical email you’ve ever received. Especially if you’ve ever gotten a response from me on a Saturday night!)

FACING THE MUSIC:
➢ Everyone agrees that the right song can brighten even the darkest of days, but new research says “groovy” music can even enhance brain function! That’s right, dancing your Saturday nights away may sharpen your thinking skills. Scientists in Japan report that “music with a groove” can significantly increase measures of executive function and associated brain activity. There is a catch, though: You have to be familiar with the tune. (I’ve got a feeling that scientists probably have a whole different idea of what constitutes “groovy” music than I do!)
➢ Researchers from Yale have found that music fans who attend festivals such as Burning Man or Coachella find themselves “transformed” by their experiences – in a good way. Those who say they felt transformed by the gathering reported feeling more connected to humanity and were more likely to help strangers. The lead author of the study said: “We’ve long known that festivals, pilgrimages, and ceremonies make people feel more bonded with their own group. (The study found) that experiences at secular mass gatherings also have the potential to expand the boundaries of moral concern beyond one’s own group.” (Next, he passed his joint to another guy, took off his tie-dyed headband, and slid down a muddy embankment toward the porta-potties, while yelling the words “Whoa, dude!” over and over…)

THINGS PEOPLE OF A CERTAIN AGE WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND:
(Yes, payphones…blah, blah, blah…but what about these?)
✗ Losing touch with people: Without Facebook, etc., It was very common not to have any idea what people, whom you were once very close to, are up to these days. (Or their “out there” political leanings…)
✗ No caller ID, and “May I speak to…”: You didn’t know who was calling, so you couldn’t ignore a call. And when was the last time you had to ask for the person you want to speak to?
✗ No GPS:  Remember paper road maps? How barbaric! (The good thing was that no one in car knew when you accidentally took “the scenic route”!)
✗ Floppy disks: Yup, a 3.5-inch floppy had a whopping 1.44MB of storage. (I never knew what to do with one, anyway!)
✗ Cassette problems:  When the tape came unravelled, the only solution was to use a pen or pencil to wind it back up. (Unless it had been “eaten” by the player!)
✗ Banking hours: What if the bank was closed for the day? Or on a Sunday? Without an ATM, some of us had to write a check, and find a friendly store to exchange it for cash. (Barbaric!)
✗ Video store:  To watch a newer movie at home seemed like the height of modern convenience. But first, you had to go to the store (usually Blockbuster), hope it was in stock, stand in line to rent it, then drive home to relax and watch it. (Then rewind it!)
✗ Birthdays: Imagine – no Facebook reminders or notes on smartphones. You either had to have it written down, or simply remember someone’s birthday. (Good work, Grandma!)
-MSN

DID YOU KNOW?
Feeling good is becoming increasingly rare these days, according to a new survey. In a poll of 2,000 people in the UK, adults said they truly feel good — both mentally and physically — less than half of the time (47%), on average. One in 4 respondents deal with anxiety at least once per week, and 40% percent battle muscle aches on most days. Sadly, just under 6 in 10 (57%) say they rarely feel “on top of their game” physically. Another 61% have simply accepted that aches and pains are part of their daily life. (When asked for comment, Father Time said: “You ain’t seen nuthin’ yet!”)

(Of a heart attack, in case you were wondering.)
