★ George Clooney has sold the tequila company that he created on a whim…for $1billion U.S.
The idea behind Casamigos, the brainchild of Clooney and his two friends Rande Gerber, who is Cindy Crawford’s husband, and Michael Meldman, was born when Clooney and Gerber bought neighboring properties in Mexico and got into drinking tequila —so much so that they decided to create their own. They have agreed to unload it to Diageo for what is reported to be an initial payment of $700 million, with the potential for another $300 million based on the tequila’s performance over the next 10 years. (Does he need money for a babysitter that badly?)

★ Ghostbusters II actor Henry ‘Hank’ Deutschendorf has committed suicide. The 29 year-old battled schizoaffective disorder. He was best known for playing Baby Oscar in 1989’s Ghostbusters II along with his twin brother William. The twins are the nephew of the late singer John Denver.

★ Courteney Cox has done away with facial fillers. After using them for years to maintain her youthful appearance, the 53-year-old has revealed she is now ‘as natural’ as she can be. The actress says that she was unhappy with how she looked after getting the injections last year. She has had all her fillers dissolved and feels better because she looks like herself.

★ Sandra Bullock’s ex-husband Jesse James has been accused by a Texas hairdresser of engaging in a racy social media exchange. The 48-year-old married reality TV star – who was busted for stepping out on then-wife Sandra Bullock in 2010 – reportedly had an inappropriate social media exchange with another woman even though he is married to billionaire heiress Alexis DeJoria.

★ The ‘Downton Abbey’ movie will begin production in 2018. Michael Edelstein, president at NBC Universal International Studios said that “There’s a movie in the works. It’s been in the works for some time.” He was speaking in Singapore at a red-carpet event for “Downton Abbey: The Exhibition, which features costumes, locations and never-before-seen footage from the TV show.

★ Charice Pempengco, the Filipino singer who rose to popularity in 2007 on YouTube and appeared in a handful of episodes of Glee, now goes by the name Jake Zyrus. • Pete Townshend – and Roger Daltrey of The Who are among the artists who have teamed up to record a cover of Simon and Garfunkel’s ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ to benefit those affected by the London Grenfell Tower tragedy. The roster also includes One Direction members Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson along with Bastille, Dua Lipa, Geri Halliwell, James Blunt, Jessie J, Leona Lewis, Robbie Williams, Rita Ora, and more.
• Chris Cornell – will appear on a new Johnny Cash anthology album. Before he died, Cornell recorded a song for the album based on Johnny Cash’s poetry. No release date has been set for the album, titled ‘Johnny Cash Forever Words: The Music’.
• Guns N’ Roses – have announced they will headline New York City’s fabled Apollo Theater July 20th. The intimate, invitation-only event will air on SiriusXM.
• Queen – Brian May recently blogged a complaint that British Airways has installed “all kinds of furniture” between his first class seat and his window view. According to him, passengers cannot get any closer than nine inches from the actual window. The horror! Quote: “It completely sucks!!” (We will, we will, block view!)
• Stephen Stills – The man who wrote ‘Suite: Judy Blue Eyes’ about Judy Collins has now made an album with her. ‘Stills and Collins’ comes out September 22 and includes a cover of the Traveling Wilburys’ ‘Handle With Care’.
• Prodigy – The Mobb Deep star reportedly choked on an egg in hospital before he died. The 42-year-old rapper died after falling ill in Las Vegas on the weekend. Prodigy was found unconscious on Tuesday morning after being hospitalized “for complications caused by a sickle cell anemia crisis”. It’s unclear whether the choking incident contributed to his death.
• John Legend – his tour was due to touch down in the Washington, DC and Philadelphia areas this week but the shows were postponed while he recovers from an illness. Dates resume tonight, and Legend tweeted a statement apologizing to fans for the disappointment.
• Dierks Bentley – has taken to opening for himself. In recent concerts, before scheduled openers Cole Swindell and Jon Pardi hit the stage, Bentley and his band have been performing incognito as ‘The Bolo Boys Bluegrass Band’.
• Casey James – has announced that his family is growing. The former American Idol contestant revealed on Tuesday that he and his wife are expecting their second child.

• “In Pursuit of Silence” (Not rated, Documentary): A meditative exploration of our relationship with silence, with sound, and the impact of noise on our lives.
• “Good Fortune” (Not Rated/Documentary): A Rags to riches story. John Paul DeJoria spent his early adulthood in and out of motorcycle gangs including Hells Angels. After losing his brother in a motorcycle accident, JP transformed his life and built a wildly successful line of hair care products with artist Paul Mitchell. Proving his success wasn’t just a fluke, JP then created the largest tequila brand in the world – Patron. (Dan Aykroyd, Robert Cromeans, Eloise DeJoria)
AND THE GEEK SHALL INHERIT THE EARTH:
Older men tend to have “geekier” sons. That’s what new research is telling us. And it’s not necessarily a bad thing, because in this day and age, it is the ‘nerdier’ kids who more often go on to do well in life. The finding, which came from a study of 80,000 British twins, found that the older the father, the more likely their male children would be considered a ‘geek,’ have a higher I.Q., attain higher grades in technical subjects at school, and be more socially aloof. Scientists found that children born to older fathers tended to score higher on a scientifically devised ‘geek index’. For a father aged 25 or younger, the average score of the child was 39.6. That figure rose to 41 in children with fathers aged 35 to 44, and to 47 for those with fathers aged over 50. The effect was much stronger in boys. The age of the children’s mothers seemed to have almost no effect on the geek index. The study is one of the first to suggest that having an older father can have benefits for a child. Why? Certain men who delay fatherhood tend to be better educated and have a higher geek index and they pass those genetics to their offspring.
(I’m just not sure if I can trust a ‘geek index’ designed by a geeky scientist!)

SUMMER VACATION – IT’S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR:
The common belief is that school children started to get summers off in the 19th century so they’d have time to help work on the family farm. Nice as that story is, it isn’t true. Summer vacation has little to do with tilling fields and more to do with sweaty, rich city kids being able to play hooky. Way back in American Civil War time, kids did get time off to help on the farm…in the spring and fall, to help plant and harvest crops. Meantime, city kids went to school all year long…the 1842 Detroit school calendar boasted 260 days of classes! But as cities got denser, they got hotter. And middle and upper class families decided that they would like to ‘get out of town’ during the hottest part of the year, and began heading for the lakes and the countryside. School attendance wasn’t mandatory back then, and classrooms were being left half-empty. With many workers now gaining victory in areas of vacation and limits on the length of workdays, others argued that students shouldn’t go to school year-round because it could strain their brains. Plus, air conditioning was decades away, and city schools during summertime were miserable, half-empty ovens. So by 1900, urban districts had given in to closing schools in the summer, and rural schools soon adopted the same pattern.
(And that, kids, is how the ‘back to school sale’ was invented!)
