Sheet Happens!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:

The British Film Institute has unearthed what it believes to be the first male-to-male kiss on TV, film, or stage in a newly-discovered copy of the 1960 BBC-TV drama “Colombe”, which featured a then-29-year-old Sean Connery kissing actor Richard Pasco, who plays his brother (racy stuff 50 years ago – or even now!) . . . Just as it seemed Brit singer Cheryl Cole was being invited back to the judging panel of the US version of “The X Factor” beginning with tomorrow’s auditions in NYC, it’s now said the show’s decided the best move is to pay out the $1.5 million demanded by her contract and say goodbye – again (this is all an orchestrated PR scam, right?) . . . “Twilight Saga” actress Nikki Reed is engaged after a whirlwind romance with former “American Idol” contestant Paul McDonald (and nobody’s made this into a reality show yet?) . . . 85-year-old Hugh Hefner has been jeered by feminist protestors as he showed up in Britain to open a new Playboy Club in London’s Mayfair district (Playboy Club– um, are we in a 1960s time warp?) . . . And Britain’s Prince William & Princess Catherine have decided to use Princess Diana’s old home as their London base, a ‘modest apartment’ in Kensington Palace where Wills and his brother Harry used to live with their late mother (only the royals would consider putting the words ‘modest’ and ‘palace’ in the same sentence).

THIS JAIL’S JUMPIN’:
On the outside, the San Antonio Prison on Margarita Island looks like any other Venezuelan penitentiary. But on the inside, the prisoners run the show and can do anything they want … other than leave. More than 2,000 Venezuelans and foreigners held largely for drug trafficking enjoy an outdoor pool surrounded by bikini-clad female visitors, while marijuana smoke flavors the air and reggaeton music booms from a club filled with grinding couples. Meantime, inmates and guests place bets at the prison’s cockfighting arena. (Soon this will be an ‘all-inclusive’ tour destination!)

LIFE BY THE NUMBERS:
A BS breakdown of who we are and what we do …
• 75% of us don’t know our next-door neighbors.
• 57% of drivers admit to not using their turn signals sometimes.
• 40% of women say the fruit they most resemble in a swimsuit is ‘an avocado’.
• 32% of us reach behind the front row of milk containers at the store for a ‘fresh one’.
• 29% of women spend more time shopping for shoes than searching for the love of their lives.
• 16% of us blame ‘the temperature’ for not getting much work done.

IN YOUR EAR:
A Queen’s University study has found that male cellphone users have lower quality sperm and lower levels of a key reproductive hormone than men who don’t use cellphones. But, curiously, cellphone users also have higher levels of circulating testosterone. Researchers suggest electromagnetic radiation may increase the number of cells that produce testosterone but at the same time keep that testosterone from being converted into the active form associated with fertility. (If your cellphone is affecting your sperm, you must be using it funny.)

MYTHS ABOUT MOUTHWASH:
Common beliefs about gargling that simply aren’t true …
• Mouthwash Cures Bad Breath – It only works temporarily as smelly compounds from your garlicky lunch, for example, are actually coming from your lungs as you exhale.
• Mouthwash Can Replace Brushing – Experts consider mouthwash an add-on, not a replacement for brushing and flossing.
• A Quick Swish Does the Job – Most mouthwashes are at their most effective when in contact with your mouth tissues for 30 seconds per use.
• All Mouthwashes Are Equal – They can be cosmetic or therapeutic. Therapeutic rinses contain additional active ingredients which have been proven to reduce plaque and/or fight cavities.
• Mouthwash Is Harmless – Many contain a high amount of alcohol. This can cause a dry mouth, which ironically is a cause of bad breath. It can also irritate oral tissues.
