Good Morning, Sheetheads!
BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Fans of “Jeopardy!” are buzzing on Twitter about a potential new host. Former Tournament of Champions winner Buzzy Cohen caused a stir when he shared a cryptic tweet that many believe to be a signal that he’ll be hosting the game show. Last week, fan account BuzzerBlog tweeted, “100% prepared to be wrong but still not totally believing that the Mayim-hosts-primetime-Jeopardy thing is still here. If that was still a thing I feel like the many press releases talking about ‘Celebrity Jeopardy!’ would have mentioned her by now.” Cohen replied to the tweet with a gif of Yoda saying “No, there is another.” Feeding into the theory, Cohen shared another tweet, reading: “Shout out to the camera guys on [as yet unannounced project] for convincing me to get a picopresso from @wacaco_ltd – cannot wait to get this thing going!!!”

★ It looks like “Top Gun: Maverick” has enough jet fuel to hit the $1 billion mark. It’s been reported that Tom Cruise’s latest blockbuster has crossed the $900 million dollar mark at the international box office in the first 25 days of its release. The total global sum is over $902 million, with domestic box office accounting for $475 million of that. The film, directed by Joseph Kosinski, is expected to cross the $1 billion mark next week. Over the weekend, the “Top Gun” sequel crossed the $800 million mark, making it Cruise’s biggest movie to date.

★ These days, some people don’t have very nice things to say about Amber Heard, but no one can deny her beauty. And science says her face is almost perfect. That’s according to the so-called ‘Golden Ratio’. First described by the ancient Greeks, the Golden Ratio refers to a formula of proportions that supposedly identify the most mathematically perfect visage. British cosmetic surgeon Dr. Julian De Silva says that by using digital facial-mapping technology, he was able to determine that Heard’s face is exactly 91.85% perfect — that’s almost as good as it gets. Bella Hadid scored highest of all well-known beauties (94.35%), followed by Beyoncé, Heard, and Ariana Grande.

★ Millie Bobby Brown, best known for rising to fame as a child, portraying ‘Eleven’ in the Netflix drama “Stranger Things,” is rumored to be in talks to appear in “Star Wars”. UK’s “Mirror” reports that Brown has been in “secret” talks with Disney execs over the role, which could potentially have a $15 million payday. As she was growing up, her resemblance to the late Carrie Fisher had many fans begging Disney to cast her as a young ‘Princess Leia’.

• BTS – Their new compilation album “Proof” debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart, the group’s 6th chart-topper. The anthology was released June 10, 4 days before it was announced BTS is going on an indefinite “hiatus” to focus on solo ventures.
• Ellie Goulding — has teased new music is coming “soon”. Sharing a series of pics from her recent performance at Brazil’s Rock in Rio festival, she wrote: “My happy place… with all of you…soon there will be some new music to give. Think I’m onto something.” Last summer, she described her upcoming album as “a dance thing from outer space”.
• Mumford & Sons — might just be “Mumford” soon. Singer Marcus Mumford made the stunning announcement that he’s going solo while performing at a Spotify soiree in the hills of the French Riviera. He also said he was performing new music for the first time and that it would be available on Spotify — it was a sponsored event after all.
• Weezer – not only dropped the Summer installment of their “SZNS” EP project on Tuesday, they also announced “SZNZ: In Residence On Broadway”, a 4-night residency at the Broadway Theatre Sept. 13-18, in which Weezer will play each of its SZNZ EPs in its entirety, with a 5th date added for an “encore.”
• Paul McCartney – will become the oldest headliner to play at the legendary Glastonbury Festival when he performs there on Sat. • Alice Cooper – says there are 3 groups that every young artist should listen to. He’s a judge on the “No Cover” show, where musicians are evaluated on their original songs, rather than singing big hits. Quote: “I want you to listen to the Beatles, the Beach Boys and the Four Seasons. They wrote perfect songs, right? Their records were perfect.”
• Lady A — is out with the new single ‘Summer State of Mind’. It’s the group’s first foray into a new way of releasing material, as the trio plan to spontaneously release new music over the coming months, creating and connecting with fans in real time. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/ypuu9dad
• Blake Shelton – To celebrate his 46th birthday on Sat., wife Gwen Stefani crashed his headlining set at the 2022 Country Summer festival in Northern California. She surprised him by walking onstage, holding a huge birthday cake. Shelton laughed in shock before holding it up for the crowd to see. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/bdd4vmdc

SHOOTING THE BULL
VOICEWORK:
A stressful day at work could change the way you speak. That’s according to a study from Germany, which found a link between work stressors and increased speech rate and voice intensity. Researchers at the University of Augsburg and Saarland University said the findings show that the voice could be “an early indicator of potentially problematic stress levels.” Study participants used their smartphones to send voice notes daily at the end of a work shift. Analysis of the recordings using computer software showed distinguishable changes in people’s voices on the days that they reported more stress factors. Researchers said increased stress levels activated the sympathetic nervous system, which in turn stimulates the production of adrenalin and cortisol. High levels of stress are associated with a range of health concerns, including cardiovascular diseases and mental health problems such as depression and anxiety.
(A stressful day at work can not only change the WAY you speak – it can also change which words you choose to say!)
(No surprise. Work has changed the way all of us speak – ever since some dork started using words like “synergy”, “new normal”, “core competency” and “think outside the box”!)

WHEEL OF LOST FORTUNE:
Soon, you’ll be able to play “Wheel of Fortune” at home…and win stuff! The famous TV game show is set to become an online casino game. Production company Sony Pictures has joined forces with BetMGM, the mobile gaming company, and International Game Technology to produce the online “Wheel of Fortune Casino”, expected later this year. The online gaming extension, with real money wagering on branded Wheel of Fortune slot machines, comes as the TV game show franchise gets set for its 40th season, and the launch of about 250 Wheel of Fortune slot games. The long-running show will also be going on tour this fall, visiting 60 cities across the continent, beginning Sept. 8. Guests will have the chance to spin a replica of the legendary “Wheel of Fortune” and solve puzzles to win cash, gifts and trips.
(Well, congrats to them – they’ve finally figured out a way to make players end the game with less money than they had going in!)
(I love Wheel of Fortune! The only problem with loving that show at age 28 is having to wait another 32 years to be able to talk to my friends about the episodes!)

UNEASY RIDERS:
How do you feel when you’re riding in a car while your significant other drives? If your first thought was “anxious”, you’ve got company. A survey of 2,000 adults that looked into how people are generally being more careful while on the road found that over half of drivers “always” or “often” feel anxious about other drivers’ behavior (53%). Three in 5 agree that the pandemic has made people drive more unsafely (61%). Maybe that’s why 60% say they even keep their eye on the speedometer when someone else is driving. But here’s the big takeaway: Most of those in relationships admitted they get nervous when their partner is driving (63%). But all this nervousness about being on the road isn’t stopping us from hitting the highway. According to the OnePoll survey, 53% of us plan on taking more road trips this summer compared to 2019, before the pandemic.
(They just won’t let their husband drive…)
(Having been married for a number of years, I’m actually surprised to hear that some people DON’T watch the speedometer when someone else is driving!)

DID YOU KNOW?
Is better balance the key to a longer life? Middle-aged people who can’t stand on one leg for 10 seconds are nearly twice as likely to die within a decade, according to new research. Unlike aerobic fitness, muscle strength, and flexibility, balance tends to stay relatively steady until someone reaches their 50s, then it wanes rapidly. Scientists in Brazil say the balance test should become part of a routine health check for older adults.
