Here’s More Bull Roar!
BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Not only has CBS extended its hiatus of “The Talk” as it conducts a review related to the recent heated exchange between Sharon Osbourne and Sheryl Underwood, but Osbourne has said she may not be wanted back, or want to return. She admits she “got too personal” with co-presenter Sheryl Underwood, and fears the argument has escalated too far for her to come back. The Talk has been taken off air and its hiatus has been extended until next week. Osbourne voiced support for Piers Morgan after his controversial comments about Meghan Markle, claiming he had the right to express his own opinion.

★ After pretty much destroying the movie rental industry, Netflix has released a documentary about the last Blockbuster store, in Bend, Oregon. “The Last Blockbuster,” features never-before-seen footage of employees, fans, and more. The documentary’s official Facebook page says: “A lot of people know that Blockbuster had the chance to buy Netflix early on and they passed . . .In an ironic twist of fate, our movie The Last Blockbuster is coming to Netflix…We are beyond excited for people to get to see this tribute to era of home video on the world’s largest streaming service. Just don’t forget to rewind it when you’re done watching it and bring it back by noon on Wednesday.” The Last Blockbuster premiered on Netflix on Monday. LINK: https://vimeo.com/396987115

★ Elliot Page is opening up about his life and gender identity in a lengthy profile in Time magazine. It’s the first major interview the “Juno” star has given since he came out as transgender in December. Page says he’s “really excited to act” now that he’s “fully” who he is, and wants to play a new spectrum of roles. Page says he is recovering from “top surgery,” a procedure to remove breast tissue, which “has completely transformed” his life. In the article, Page also reveals he and choreographer Emma Portner, with whom he divorced early this year, are still “close friends.”

★ Former US first lady Michelle Obama always has a lot on her plate, so to speak, and right now is no different with the premiere of “Waffles + Mochi,” her new family show on Netflix. The show, which began streaming Tuesday, focuses on healthy eating for young people, Obama’s main mission while in the White House. And she’s teamed up with Partnership for a Healthier America to help provide meals to 1 million families in need.

Quote: “The photographer is screaming, ‘Mick, Mick, Mick! Give us a picture!’ “And I swear to you, he grabs me and these (other) kids and he says, ‘Here’s my new band, The Frogs’ And we took a… picture.”
• Elton John — criticized the Vatican over not approving gay marriage. He wrote: “How can the Vatican refuse to bless gay marriages because they ‘are sin’, yet happily make a profit from investing millions in Rocketman – a film which celebrates my finding happiness from my marriage to David [Furnish]??” It was reported in 2019 that the Vatican contributed $1.2 million towards the biopic.

No cause of death or age was given. Hometown News was made up of Whitehead and Ron Kingery, and they scored two Top 40 songs in 2002, ‘Minivan’ and ‘Wheels’.
SHOOTING THE BULL
FAIL MAIL:
The author of a new book published to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first email message, calls it a curse. Cal Newport’s book is called “A World Without Email: Reimagining Work in an Age of Communications Overload”. After studying the social effects of email for several years, the Georgetown University computer-science professor says “It just clashes with our fundamental human wiring to have this non-stop piling up of communication…that we can’t keep up with.” According to him, no matter how much we tell ourselves “it’s OK, we don’t have to answer these emails right away”, there’s a deeper part of our brain that is compelled to do so. And that makes us miserable, because we are overwhelmed with the urge to answer all our emails as they come in. He calls it a “torturous cycle” by which a flood of incoming emails loads us up with work, but that workload precents us from responding to those emails as promptly as we feel we should, while also keeping us from doing our work. Which, of course, leads to us doing our work outside of normal hours — which leads to burnout. What can be done about it? Newport suggests telling your colleagues you are available to respond to emails between the hours of 2-3 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and not to expect to hear back from you outside those hours.
(Well, at least I’d miss the inevitable email from my boss inviting me to a “very important meeting” with HR …)
(Email is 50 years old? And I didn’t even send a “congrats” email…)
(Remember the good old days when the only emails you got were jokes from your friends…and you were compelled to print them out…on dot-matrix tractor computer paper? Help me. I’m old…)

READ BETWEEN THE WINES:
If you want to impress your guests with expensive wine but can’t afford it, lie to them about the price of the cheap stuff. A new study out of Switzerland found what deep down we already kind-of knew: the more we think a wine costs, the better we think it tastes. The researchers tested volunteers with three Italian red wines, ranging in price from £8-50 (US$11-70) — but the prices were incorrectly marked. When the cheapest wine was given falsely-high pricing, it was judged the most pleasant of the three. The researchers say “deceptive up-pricing of low-price wine significantly influenced ratings for pleasantness. . . [so] subjective experience may lie in the price.”
(That’s only true if someone else paid for it. Did you ever notice that when YOU buy the cheapest dreck that you can find, you always tell your friends, “It’s not bad!”)
(You may save some money, but your friends will “pay” for it in the morning!)
(For me, it’s pretty easy to tell the difference between a $200 wine and a $20 wine. $180!)

SOME ‘THING’ TO TALK ABOUT:
In June, a new kind of library will open in London, ON. A “Thing Library”. The idea is that you can borrow items that you need to use, rather than having to purchase them. The library-style service will provide hobbyists, bakers and amateur remodelers crowd-sourced tools in an effort to reduce waste and save people money. The London Thing Library will run on a membership model, where patrons pay a monthly fee for access to the library’s inventory. It will also focus on teaching people new skills, like how to dehydrate your own food or make repairs through workshops. At this point, the enterprise is asking for donations to build up inventory. Among the items they’re requesting are bike repair tools, a pressure washer, camping chairs and cookie decorating supplies.
(I wonder if they have books…)
(How many tools will be dropped off there “because my husband never gets around to using them”??)
(Just a hunch, but I bet the local rent-all place has a bit of a problem with this!)

DID YOU KNOW?
A fundraiser to help pay off Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s $19 million Los Angeles mansion has been shut down. A California woman set up the ‘Harry and Meghan $5 Donation to Buy Home’ GoFundMe a few days after the Duke and Duchess’ explosive tell-all chat with Oprah was aired. She was seeking donations of US$5 to reach a target of $10 million. During the Oprah chat, Harry revealed that he had been cut off financially by the royal family, and said he was forced to use his inheritance from his late mother, Princess Diana — which is estimated to be $18 million. The GoFundMe page disappeared from the site a few days after appearing, having attracted just $140 in donations.

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Awkward Moments Day”, a day to celebrate the humor in life’s uncomfortable and embarrassing situations … which we normally fail to see until years later (If you need me, I’ll be sitting in the corner re-living my personal top-20…).
• “Biodiesel Day”, in honor of the clean-burning fuel that can be used in any diesel engine with no conversion whatsoever. It is derived from 100% renewable resources like soybeans, canola, mustard seed, even recycled cooking oil. The day is celebrated on the anniversary of the 1858 birth of Rudolph Diesel, the German inventor of the diesel engine. (What are the odds?)
• “Forgive Mom & Dad Day”. No matter how lousy they were as parents, it’s time to let it go and get on with your life (I’m still not forgiving them for my nose…).
• “Sloppy Joe Day”, America’s all-time favorite hot sandwich, it is often made with ground beef, onions, tomato sauce, brown sugar, cola or maple syrup to sweeten it, and seasonings to spice it, all served up on a hamburger bun or roll.
• “Goddess of Fertility Day”, celebrating Aphrodite and other gods and goddesses of fertility. Aphrodite is the Greek goddess of love, beauty, pleasure, and procreation. Her Roman equivalent is the goddess Venus.
• “Absolutely Incredible Kid Day”, encouraging adults to let kids know just how amazing and valuable they are. The idea is to write a note (text?) of support and encouragement to a kid of your choice.
