BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Time is ticking and no one is getting any younger — and Robert Pattinson is well aware of that. He’s set to reprise his role of the ‘Dark Knight’ in “The Batman II”, which has been in development for quite some time, and is due to hit theaters in 2027. And Pattinson is seemingly anxious to start filming the DC Studios movie. He told “Mickey 17” co-star Naomi Ackie in a conversation for Hero Magazine that he “(freaking)” hopes they begin production soon, because: “I started out as young Batman and I’m going to be (freaking) old Batman by the sequel… I’m 38, I’m old.” Shooting of the Batman sequel is expected to begin by the end of the year.

★ The waffle party almost had an unexpected guest. Ben Stiller, who executive-produces and directs many episodes of the Emmy-winning Apple TV+ drama “Severance,” has revealed that he invited former President Barack Obama to come on the show. On “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, Stiller said he sent the offer to the former POTUS through a friend who knows his lawyer, and, quote: “Two days later, I get an email back from President Barack Obama.” The reply said, “Hey Ben, big fan of the show, love Season 1, can’t wait for Season 2. Don’t think I have time in my schedule to make this happen.” Stiller joked: “What’s more important than doing the voice-over for the animated building in ‘Severance’?”

★ Kristin Cavallari is back on reality TV. Cavallari, who started her career on MTV’s “Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County” and its spinoff “The Hills”, will star in “Honestly Cavallari: The Headline Tour” for E!. It marks her return to the NBCU cable network, where she starred in “Very Cavallari” between 2018 and 2020. The new series will follow her as she takes her “Let’s Be Honest” podcast on tour. It will premiere on June 5 with episodes streaming on Peacock.

★ Halyna Hutchins’ family has retaliated against Alec Baldwin’s new TLC reality series, filing a notice of deposition, demanding he “face the real-life consequences that he caused” and “face reality under oath.” On Tuesday, Gloria Allred — attorney for parents Olga Solovey and Anatolii Androsovych and the sister of Halyna Hutchins, Svetlana Zemko — said that she intends for Baldwin to testify “in person in my New York office” on May 9. The attorney claims: “As though it is not enough that Alec Baldwin killed their daughter, and that he was not held accountable…now (he) has compounded the pain…by taking advantage of his increased fame and notoriety by monetizing it in a TLC reality show, where he takes on the role of victim…”

★ Neil Patrick Harris is the latest A-Lister to join Michael C. Hall in “Dexter: Resurrection.” Premiering this summer on Paramount+ with Showtime, the “Dexter” spinoff also stars Uma Thurman, David Zayas, Jack Alcott, Peter Dinklage, Krysten Ritter, and others. He wrote of the late singer, who’s been eligible since 1994 and is a first-time nominee this year: “Joe was a great man and a fine singer whose unique style made for some fantastic performances.” Cocker famously covered The Beatles’ ‘With a Little Help From My Friends.’

Green’s answer: “Single. That was an easy one.” When Gunderson asked: “How single?” Green laughed: “Pretty damn.”

SHOOTING THE BULL

LOOKIN’ SICK:
MIT researchers say they have developed “smart” clothes that can tell you when you’re getting sick. The researchers invented a ‘fiber computer’, and networked several of them into a garment. Created in partnership with the American military, the clothing, containing the group of elastic fiber computers, could monitor health conditions and physical activity, alerting the wearer to potential risks in real time. The developers explain that their invention is comfortable and machine washable, and unlike body-monitoring systems known as “wearables”, these fabrics have the advantage of staying in close contact with large areas of the body, and therefore can provide more accurate health and physical data. Each ‘smart’ fiber computer includes a Bluetooth communication system to send data wirelessly to a device such as a smartphone, which can be read by a user.
(Smart clothes that tell you when you’re sick? What’s next? It texts my doctor when I have a second slice of cake?)
(Well, it’d be the first time ever that someone could honestly say that I was dressed “smartly”!)

COLLECTING DUST… AND STUFF:
What is the oddest collection you’ve ever heard of someone having? A new survey asked Americans about their most unique, impressive, and bizarre collections – and they didn’t disappoint. One respondent reported a collection of over 300 coasters from breweries they’ve visited, and another has collected more than 200 oil-burning lamps. Other interesting collections include gnomes (of course), uranium glass, clowns, vintage handkerchiefs and porcelain pigs. Another person claimed to have nearly 100,000 sports cards, and another…well, they have about that many…fingernail clippings. And Elvis memorabilia was, of course, well represented, too. The Talker Research poll also asked about the, ahem, non-functional “stuff” that has collected around people’s homes over the years, and respondents estimated it would take 14 hours to sort and get rid of all their unwanted items and “junk” — and 17% said it would take them an entire 40-hour work week.
(40 hours? I’ll stick to my collection of unfinished DIY projects, thanks!)
(Just this week, I just heard that someone bought a Mark Zuckerberg hoodie at auction. So, they’ve just started an even WEIRDER collection!)

ARCTIC TRICK:
In what could be a step toward bringing back the woolly mammoth, which went extinct about 4,000 years ago (or perhaps the plot of a bad sci-fi movie…) scientists have created genetically modified mice with similar traits. Mice with similar traits to a woold mammoth? Yup. They have curly whiskers and wavy, light hair that grows 3 times longer than that of an ordinary lab mouse. The US company Colossal Bioscience says it developed the mice with the idea that someday, they could genetically modify elephants to be hairy and better able to withstand the cold. Why? The eventual goal is to help stop global warming. In spite of the fact that critics say it’s all a publicity stunt, Colossal says it wants to create herds of what it calls mammoth-like creatures to live in the arctic tundra. The company says the creatures’ grazing habits would encourage grasslands to flourish and reduce the amount of carbon dioxide being released from melting permafrost. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas which is one of the main drivers of global warming. Co-founder and CEO Ben Lam said that the woolly mice mark a big step forward, and they plan to “have the first cold-adapted elephant by 2028”.
(Curly whiskers and wavy, long hair? They could have done this a lot faster if they started with Jason Momoa, instead of a mouse!)
(Genetically modified mice with wavy hair? Forget science, this is a Pixar movie waiting to happen!)

CONTROVERSIAL FOOD OPINIONS:
…from BuzzFeed contributors. Do you agree?
⇒ “Celery is the devil’s vegetable. Its stringy, pungent, and tastes like I just ate a mouthful of dirt.”
⇒ “Hard taco shells are actively unpleasant and a terrible vehicle for otherwise good food.”
⇒ “Raw onions should be banned from 9/10 dishes. Nothing ruins a meal faster for me then seeing tiny pieces of raw onion everywhere.
⇒ “I love to let my cereal sit in milk and get soggy. Most people think this is absolutely crazy. I can’t understand why anyone would eat Grapenuts without letting them get soggy!”
⇒ “IMO, potatoes, no matter the form, taste generally the same. Don’t get me wrong, I love some potatoes, but just like Tom Hanks’ acting, they are the same no matter what they are trying to be.”
⇒ “I horrify wine-lovers when I tell them I’d rather drink the grape juice before it went bad.”
(Mine? When we talk about our favorite cheese, cream cheese is not mentioned nearly enough. Think cheesecake, cream cheese poundcake – and bagels with cream cheese. Mmmmm! Another? The appetizers at a restaurant always taste better than the mains.)

DID YOU KNOW?
It’s official: Sunday night, Adrien Brody set a new record for the longest acceptance speech in Oscars history. After winning the ‘best actor’ Academy Award for “The Brutalist”, Brody spoke at the mic for five minutes and 40 seconds, topping the previous longest speech by actress Greer Garson in 1943 by 10 seconds. (We understand that his speech lasted almost as long as the kiss planted on him by Halle Berry on the red carpet — right in front of his partner, Georgina Chapman!)

BS CHRONOMETER 03.06.25

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Nametag Day”, part of “Celebrate Your Name Week”, today’s celebration stipulates that wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, you wear a “Hello, I’m [your name here]” nametag. In a playful mood? Rename yourself for the day, or just wear someone’s else’s nametag!
• “Dentist’s Day”, honoring the professionals who help us maintain a big, toothy smile … for a big fee. Dentistry is consistently ranked among the businesses with the highest profit margins. We think it has something to do with a secret kick-back deal with the Tooth Fairy. (You know the drill…)
• “Frozen Food Day”, commemorating the first ‘Individually Packaged Frozen Foods’, created by Clarence Birdseye in Springfield, Massachusetts 95 years ago (1930). He got the idea after seeing Canadians thawing and eating naturally frozen fish.
• “Oreo Cookie Day”, honoring the taste treat many of us deconstruct before eating. The first Oreos went on sale on this date in 1912. More than 500 billion have been sold since. Some think the name comes from a combination of taking the ‘re’ from ‘creme’ and placing it between the two ‘o’s in ‘chocolate’, – making ‘o-re-o’.
• “Dress Day”. ‘Dress memories’ are relived and celebrated today by wearing favorite dresses and posting memories about them on social media. The holiday was started by dress company ASHLEYlauren (What a surprise…!) LINK: https://www.nationaldressday.com/
• “Day of the Dude”, promoting the philosophy & lifestyle inspired by fictional character ‘Jeffrey “The Dude” Lebowski’, as portrayed by Jeff Bridges in the 1998 film “The Big Lebowski”. Many consider ‘Dudeism’, a modern form of Chinese Taoism, as a mock religion. LINK: http://dudeism.com
• Alamo Day, on the anniversary of the final day of the Battle of the Alamo in 1836. During the key conflict in Texas’ battle with Mexican forces at San Jacinto, troops shouted “Remember the Alamo,” and with their victory, Texas independence was assured.
