BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Sydney Sweeney and her fiancé Jonathan Davino have called off their wedding, as they face “major issues” in their relationship, Us Weekly reports a source as saying. The insider said that the couple hasn’t “fully split”, and “they aren’t throwing in the towel yet, they are working on their relationship.” Sweeney sparked breakup rumors earlier this month when it was reported that she had been living apart from Davino for nearly a month. Then, fans noticed she had deleted a picture of the pair kissing from her Instagram. They began dating in 2018, and were reportedly planning to get married this spring.

★ Nearly 4 years after Alec Baldwin mistakenly fired a loaded gun on the set of “Rust”, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza, the first trailer for the movie has been shared. The film, which stars Baldwin, plus Patrick Scott McDermott, Josh Hopkins and Travis Fimmel, follows Harland Rust (Baldwin) in 1880s Kansas as he breaks his grandson out of jail. Rust and his grandson — who was set to be hanged after mistakenly killing a rancher — become fugitives in Mexico, as they attempt to outrun a U.S. Marshal and a bounty hunter. Baldwin appears with a full beard and puts on a Western accent, telling McDermott in one scene: “Some things in life you can’t get back, I reckon.” Rust will hit theaters May 2 and will be available for VOD the same day. ★ Kim Kardashian will testify against the Parisian underground gang accused of coordinating her infamous 2016 robbery, TMZ says. The SKIMS co-founder is set to travel to France in May to take the stand, nearly 10 years after being bound and robbed at gunpoint in her Paris hotel room. The thieves stole $10 million worth of jewelry, including the $4 million upgraded wedding ring Kardashian got from then-husband Kanye West. After a lengthy investigation, French officials ordered 12 suspects to trial in 2021, and in May, the jury trial will finally begin.

According to her, she didn’t plan to tour, aside from a short run of shows, but “the incredible response to the new album inspired me to keep things going.” Meanwhile, she’s being sued by a surfboard brand that claims she stole its “Mayhem” logo for her new album. SHUT UP AND DANCE (FOR YOUR OWN GOOD):
It’s Friday. And if that fact isn’t enough to make you want to dance, maybe THIS is: A new study shows that dancing seems to have special powers when it comes to stress relief. The research, published in Psychology of Sport & Exercise, found that dancing weaves together music, rhythm, social connection, and physical movement to create what might be the perfect recipe for stress relief. Plenty of evidence was found that just listening to music can lower anxiety and help people relax – because music kicks our brain’s reward system into gear, releasing feel-good chemicals, while dialing down cortisol, our body’s main stress hormone. But when you combine that with the stress-busting effects of physical movement, and add the positive effects of touch and social support that one gets from dancing with a partner, it results in an unbeatable cocktail of stress-busters. The researchers say the evidence suggests that dance deserves special consideration as a stress-management tool.
(Still, just like my singing, I think I’m best to limit to the privacy of my own home!)
(Fine. So, tell me why my wife gets all stressed out when I decide to bust a move?)

‘SOCIAL’ ISSUES:
For years, we’ve heard about all the horrible things that smartphone use is doing to our kids’ brains. Now, is it backtracking time? A recent survey of over 1,500 children between the ages of 11 and 13 found that smartphones might actually be GOOD for their mental and social well-being—as long as they don’t spend too much time on social media. The research, from the University of South Florida, found that kids with smartphones are more likely to spend time with friends in person — and reported fewer symptoms of depression and anxiety than those without phones. But the downside comes with frequent social media use. Children who often post on social platforms were twice as likely to report sleep problems and feelings of anxiety or depression. The researchers recommend limiting how often kids post online, though that’s admittedly easier said than done.
(…and if you’ve ever tried to limit your kid’s social media use, you’d know that YOU’RE the one who ends up full of anxiety!)
(Plus, if you give your kid a smartphone, then tell them not to post on social media, they’ll probably get all anxious and depressed!)

NEWS OF THE WEIRD:

➢ An elderly couple’s house was mistakenly raided by police who thought it was a cannabis farm. Why? Because they kept it so hot in there! Cops stormed into the home of 80-year-old Barry Lovelock and his 78-year-old wife Mavis while they were eating breakfast in their Leicestershire, England home. The raid was triggered by a thermal helicopter camera, which thought their gas fire-heated property was a drug den, based on its temperature readings. Nine officers rammed the door and charged upstairs searching for cannabis plants and the strong lamps which are used to grow them. Later, mortified cops had to admit their tip-off was “not fully accurate”, saying the reason for the mistaken raid was the couple’s 2 gas fires, which they keep on 24/7 during the colder months. (…either that or the 27 roasts and 19 pies she’s made since Christmas!)
➢ A couple in China arrived at the emergency department of a hospital on Tuesday, with the female’s hand lodged in the guy’s mouth. The pair had been attempting a viral “hand-eating challenge” where the boyfriend opened his mouth wide and the girlfriend inserted her clenched fist. But when she tried to withdraw her hand, it became stuck. The couple tried various methods to free her hand without success, and eventually had no choice but to head to the hospital. In a video circulated across social media, the man is seen walking into the hospital with the woman’s fist lodged firmly in his mouth. The attending doctor later explained that the woman’s hand got stuck as muscle spasms caused her boyfriend’s mouth to become locked. Nurses played soothing music to calm him, and the doctor then used a mouth opener to keep the man’s jaw open and administered a muscle relaxant. He was then able to slowly rotate the woman’s wrist out of his mouth, in a process that took more than 20 minutes. (Well, at least they still went viral!) LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3wjzvt53

DID YOU KNOW?
If you want to get a good night’s sleep, try leaving your socks on. Behavioral sleep disorders specialist Michelle Drerup says that while it seems counterintuitive, wearing socks to bed can actually lower your body temperature and help you fall asleep faster. As night approaches, core temperature begins to drop, preparing the body for sleep. Drerup explained that “by making your feet warmer, you’re…increasing the blood circulation to your feet”, resulting in a lower core temperature. A study showed that men who slept in socks fell asleep nearly 8 minutes faster and slept 32 minutes longer than those who didn’t, with fewer awakenings during the night. (Your partner will sleep better too, because they won’t be accidentally stabbed by a stray toenail!)

BS CHRONOMETER 03.28.25

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Something on a Stick Day”, celebrating corn dogs, shish kebabs, Popsicles, ice cream bars, and any of the estimated 3 dozen other foods regularly served on a stick.
• “Children’s Picture Book Day”. They combine images and basic words, and are usually read to young children by adults, and later, these are usually the first books the children read on their own. (And the best of all-time? “Hop on Pop”, of course!)
• “Hot Tub Day”, time to soak yourself in a steaming hot tub (aka spas or whirlpools), and bust the stress. Human stew!
• “Weed Appreciation Day”. Easy does it, there…It’s a salute to plants that grow wild, which, though classified as weeds, have a beauty all their own. Think of them as wildflowers, and see if that helps.
• “Black Forest Cake Day”. It is not named directly after the Black Forest in southwestern Germany, but from the specialty liquor of that region, known as Schwarzwälder Kirsch(wasser), distilled from tart cherries.
• “Respect Your Cat Day”. In order to be respected, the desires and needs of cats must be acknowledged. For that to happen, we humans must observe and listen to cats, and we must understand their body language, including their posture and vocalizations. (Or else!) [***See “Whack Facts”, below***]
• “Eat an Edy’s Pie Day” (formerly Eskimo Pies), The inspiration for Eskimo Pie was a boy’s indecision in a store in 1920. He wanted ice cream, then decided on a chocolate bar. When asked why he didn’t buy both, the boy replied, “I only got a nickel.” The proprietor began experimenting with methods of sticking melted chocolate to ice cream, until he found cocoa butter to be perfect.

SATURDAY:
• “Piano Day”, takes place on the 88th day of the year, because of the number of keys on the instrument. Piano Day celebrates pianos and everything in their orbit: composers, performers, listeners, builders, tuners…and even piano movers.
• “Mom & Pop Business Owners Day”, honoring family-run, small-time business operations. (***Ask listeners for the most unusual combination of services offered by a single business that they’ve come across, ie: “Sam’s Roofing & Dry Cleaning”…***)
• “Brothers and Sisters Day!”, a day to let siblings know you care. (Or maybe to add up all the times you got ratted on, had your hair pulled or your dessert stolen … and get even!)
• “Smoke & Mirrors Day”. The name is based on magicians’ illusions, in which they make objects appear or disappear by extending or retracting mirrors amid a confusing burst of smoke. But ‘smoke and mirrors’ can refer to any presentation in which the audience is intended to be deceived. (A press conference, for instance…)
• “Vietnam Veterans Day”. The last US troops left Vietnam 52 years ago today, in 1973. In 1971, at the height of the conflict, some 33,000 soldiers deserted, many moving to Canada.
• “Knights of Columbus Founders Day”, the world’s largest Catholic fraternal service organization. Founded by Father Michael J. McGivney in New Haven CT, in 1882, it was named in honor of explorer Christopher Columbus.
• “Lemon Chiffon Cake Day”. The recipe debuted in a 1948 edition of Better Homes and Gardens. General Mills marketed it as “the first new cake in 100 years” and it quickly became a sensation. The secret recipe called for vegetable oil instead of butter or shortening, and instructions were to beat the egg whites and egg yolks separately.

SUNDAY-
• “Doctors Day”, an observance dating back to 1933, commemorating the first use of anesthetic during surgery by Dr Crawford Long in 1842. He got the idea from observing party-goers high on nitrous oxide and sulfuric ether. (He asked if they would mind if he stole the idea, and they said, “Knock yourself out!”)
• “Pencil Day”, observed on the anniversary of the ‘Pencil with Attached Eraser’ being patented 166 years ago (1858) by Hyman Lipman. (Thereby giving us all something to chew on…)
• “Take a Walk in the Park Day”, which not only helps you stay healthy and manage weight, it reduces stress (especially if it’s your mother-in-law who’s doing the walking…).
• “World Bipolar Day”, observed on the birth date of artist Vincent Van Gogh, who was posthumously diagnosed as probably having bipolar disorder.
• “Virtual Vacation Day”. Virtual vacations do not require money, packing, or transcontinental flights. All you need is your imagination and free VR apps or a VR headset. (Which I can’t afford, either!)
• “Grass is Always Browner on the Other Side of the Fence Day”. You’ve heard the phrase: “the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.” Well, that might not always be the case. Today is for taking stock in things you DO have, whether it be a roof over your head, a family, a job, or something else you’re grateful for.
