BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Alec Baldwin has once again spoken publicly on the ongoing investigation and lawsuits surrounding the shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of “Rust.” In an interview, Baldwin said lawsuits are being filed against the wrong people. Quote: “What you have is a certain group of people, litigants and whatever, on whatever side, who their attitude is, ‘Well, the people who likely seem negligent have no money and the people who have money are not negligent.’”

★ “Storage Wars” star Rene Nezhoda scored big on his latest find, unearthing tons of memorabilia that belonged to Olympic legend Florence Griffith Joyner. His friend George bought Flo-Jo’s storage locker 8 years ago NEAR San Diego. Nezhoda says he dropped several thousand dollars to take the stuff off his hands and walked away with her Olympic jacket and even her signed track shoes — the ones that she wore while breaking world records! Joyner broke records in the 1988 Seoul Olympics in both the 100m and 200m dash, and took home a total of 3 gold medals. Nezhoda says he’ll likely sell the pieces of history on eBay or through Heritage Auctions.

★ After conquering the beach, Pamela Anderson will now try to dominate Broadway. She’ll portray ‘Roxie Hart’, the morally flexible antiheroine at the heart of “Chicago,” the long-running revival of the Kander and Ebb/Bob Fosse classic. Marking her Broadway debut, Anderson steps into a role previously played by Gwen Verdon, Ann Reinking, Brooke Shields, Ashlee Simpson and Melanie Griffith. She’ll start April 12 and will play an 8-week limited engagement at the Ambassador Theatre.

★ “The Walking Dead” universe is getting even bigger. Lauren Cohan, who plays ‘Maggie’, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who plays ‘Negan’, will star in a spinoff series set in New York. “Isle of the Dead” will see Maggie and Negan traveling into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan long ago cut off from the mainland. The crumbling city is filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty, and terror. Isle of the Dead will debut on AMC next year.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Lady Gaga — has announced new dates for her eagerly-anticipated “Chromatica Ball” summer tour. She has 15 shows booked in Europe, Canada and the US between July 17-Sept. 10. It’s to promote her “Chromatica” album, which was released in 2020, but she’s been unable to tour until now due to COVID.
• Harry Styles – will make his eagerly-awaited music comeback next month. He recently filmed a video for his new single on a giant bed outside Buckingham Palace, and now it’s being reported that in April, he’ll release his first new music since the 2019 album “Fine Line”.
• Kanye West — A viral TikTok shows Starbucks workers using the fight over Kim Kardashian to rack up cash with Kanye West or Pete Davidson tip jars. A TikTok’er is seen going through the drive-thru and leaving money in the Davidson jar, which has several dollar bills inside, versus the West jar which only has change. • ZZ Top – will release the new album “Raw” on July 22. It consists of new “raw” versions of some of the band’s songs, and was recorded in connection with “That Little Ol’ Band From Texas”, ZZ Top’s 2019 Netflix documentary. It is dedicated, as the band puts it, “in righteous memory of Dusty Hill,” the group’s bassist-vocalist, who died in July at 72. ZZ Top has also announced a summer tour.
• Alice in Chains – has announced a co-headlining tour with Breaking Benjamin and special guests Bush this summer. The 30-city outing kicks off on August 10 in Burgettstown PA, and winds across the U.S. before wrapping in Mansfield CA on October 8.
• Leonard Cohen — Hipgnosis has acquired rights in all 278 songs written by him, including ‘Hallelujah’, the company said in a press release. No financial details have been released.
• Maren Morris — has announced a massive tour in support of her new album “Humble Quest”, out March 25. It will kick off June 9 in Raleigh NC, and hit large venues across the U.S. through the end of the year. Opening acts on different dates include longtime friends and collaborators Ruston Kelly, Brent Cobb, fellow Highwomen member Natalie Hemby, Joy Oladokun and Brittney Spencer.
• Sugarland — Kristian Bush, who will turn 52 on Monday, will drop the 52-song solo release, “52,” in 4 volumes. The first collection, “52 – ATL X BNA,” highlights Nashville’s country storytelling coupled with Atlanta’s R&B recording methods, and will be available March 25. Two songs – ‘Tennessee Plates’ and ‘Everybody Gotta Go Home’ – are out now.
• (***Caution: language***) Kelsea Ballerini – Her Kenny Chesney duet ‘Half of My Hometown’ is her 7th #1 song. In an Insta post, she gave a list of reasons the song, which is about loving where she’s from, is so close to her heart. One of them: “how the hell did kenny go from singing ‘back where i come from’ through my parents Jeep cherokee speakers to singing this song about the same damn place with me?” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2p859fxp
SHOOTING THE BULL
FUMIN’ ABOUT PERFUME:
As if the skyrocketing prices of food and fuel weren’t bad enough (and they are), get set for the latest commodity to soar in cost: Perfume. Yup. The price of premium perfumes recently jumped to levels never before seen. Stats show the average price for fragrances rose by 15% in 2021, triple the average 5% increase during the prior 2 years. But don’t blame general inflation – or the situation in Ukraine. It has a lot more to do with consumer behavior in times of stress and uncertainty. Larissa Jensen, who is VP of the research firm NPD, says the sector started to see a swell of growth during the pandemic “where consumers were willing to trade up to more premium fragrances.” Her company’s theory is that “people were looking to treat themselves with little luxuries during these difficult times.” She says that fancy scents “allow us to escape, even momentarily, and experience a different emotion.” The increase in demand, naturally led to an increase in the prices that consumers would up paying.
(If you lived with as many teenagers as I do, you’d understand a thing or 2 about “scents allowing you to escape, even momentarily…”)
(I blame Beyoncé…for putting out a new fragrance about every 4 months!)
(I cannot believe I got through that whole story without saying the phrase “supply-chain issue” once!)

THERE’LL BE SAD SONGS:
What’s the absolute saddest song of all time? REM’s 1992 hit ‘Everybody Hurts’, according to a survey of 2,000 adults in the UK. Second is Sinead O’Connor’s ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ and Eric Clapton’s ‘Tears in Heaven’. Also in the top 5 saddest songs of all time: Whitney Houston’s ‘I Will Always Love You’ and ‘Yesterday’ by The Beatles. Some other interesting findings from the poll: 36% choose a sad song when they are feeling nostalgic, 24% play somber music after a breakup, and almost half, surprisingly, believe that a sad song can brighten their day. And just so we don’t wrap this up on a downer, the top 3 happiest songs according to survey respondents are, in order: Queen’s ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’, ‘Dancing Queen’ by ABBA, and ‘Walking on Sunshine’ by Katrina and The Waves.
(Wow! ‘Everybody Hurts’ . . . ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’, ‘Tears in Heaven’ . . . That 2-year period from 1990-92 must have been a real blast!)
(I’ve got a feeling they didn’t survey a whole lot of country fans…)
(Somewhere, Pharrell Williams is reading this, and saying “WTF? I literally wrote a song called ‘Happy’!”)

HOT NEWS:
Here’s a little “not so good news” story to keep in your back pocket for when the hot weather arrives: Apparently, extremely hot and humid weather can kill a person a lot more easily than previously thought. A Pennsylvania State University study, one of the first to directly assess humid heat stress among young people, found that when humidity is at an absolute max, the upper limit of human adaptability is just 31°C (87°F). That’s 4° less than theoretical estimates, and for older people, the threshold is even lower. Compared to hot and dry climates, the human body cannot withstand hot and humid conditions nearly as well. That’s because at 100% humidity, sweat cannot dissipate as easily to cool our bodies down. In an absolutely dry environment, the human threshold for survival is probably around 50°C. But for a completely humid environment, the new results suggest temperatures need only reach that 31°C threshold before our bodies go into heat stroke.
(And, as a parent, trust me, while our bodies can’t take it beyond 31°, the upper limits of a pair of sweat socks is considerable less…)
(So what they’re saying is that the swimming pool in my backyard doesn’t qualify as a “completely humid environment”?)

THINGS THAT HAPPENED ALMOST EXACTLY TWO YEARS AGO – BUT DON’T SEEM LIKE IT:
(As we approach 2 years since “the old normal”, here’s what was going on in the world just before it shut down . . .)
➠ Jennifer Lopez and Shakira performed at the Super Bowl halftime show just a month or so before the pandemic began.
➠ “Tiger King” came out right at the beginning of lockdown — March 20, to be exact. (And looking back, it’s the only thing that was actually weirder than being locked down!)
➠ Big in theaters: “The Invisible Man”, “Sonic the Hedgehog” and “Bad Boys for Life”.
➠ In one of the last major events in a pre-‘rona world, Laura Dern won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress at the Academy Awards. “Parasite” was Best Picture.
➠ The Pussycat Dolls reunited. Since then, they’ve announced a reunion tour, canceled it, and broken up.
➠ At the end of February, just before lockdown, “Megxit” was announced. (And nothing new from the royal family since then. Nope, nothing at all…)
➠ At the Grammys, Billie Eilish won more awards than she could physically hold. (That was during her ‘green and black’ hair period!)
➠ No one, anywhere, used the phrases “social distancing”, “super-spreader”, “flatten the curve”, “the jab” or “vaxxed”.
➠ . . . or “N-95”, “PPE”, “variant” or “quarantine”.

DID YOU KNOW?
According to a recent poll, nearly 1 in 3 people think Ben Affleck is the best Batman. In the survey of 1,000 Americans in anticipation of last Friday’s release of “The Batman” starring Robert Pattinson, Affleck, with 31% of the vote, barely edged out Michael Keaton (30%) as the favorite on-screen Batman. Kevin Conroy, Christian Bale and Adam West ranked 3rd, 4th and 5th, respectively – and while George Clooney’s self-described “franchise killer” ranked low (23%), he wasn’t at the bottom of the list. That honor goes to Will Arnett’s comedic portrayal in “The LEGO Movie” and “The LEGO Batman Movie” (21%).
