BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Actor Kevin Connolly has broken his leg on the set of the “Entourage” movie after Jerry Ferrara – who plays ‘Turtle’ – fell on it while Connolly was trying to catch a pass from Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson. Apparently it was a clean break and ‘Turtle’ has thankfully lost a considerable amount of weight in recent years, so it shouldn’t affect filming too much. The long-delayed movie picks up where the acclaimed HBO-TV series (2004-11) left off. The film’s due to hit cinemas in June 2015.

★ Action actor Jet Li’s former stunt double Ju Kun is presumed dead now that Malaysian officials have announced Malaysia Airlines Flight MH-370, which went missing on March 8th, crashed into the Indian Ocean, killing its 239 passengers and crew. Kun, who was identified as being among the passengers, was flying home after working at Pinewood Studios in Malaysia. He was about to begin work on the upcoming Netflix series “Marco Polo”.

★ The question of whether  Prince William & Kate Middleton are having another baby has been asked ever since the Duchess of Cambridge delivered the wee royal heir back in July. Finally, the Duke of Cambridge has tackled the rumors head-on. At a recent public appearance the new dad revealed they aren’t thinking of adding to their family … at least, not yet. Quote: “Maybe one day. One’s enough at the moment.” 8-month-old Prince George has just started to crawl, a stage that keeps any parents extremely busy. Wills & Kate are about to embark on an extensive tour of New Zealand and Australia April 7-25.

★ And now we see why they married in such a hurry. Stacy Keibler (34) and her new husband, Jared Pobre (39), are expecting their first child together, her publicist has confirmed. Keibler posted a photo on her Twitter account of a bun in an oven, captioned: “Look what we’ve got cooking! A Bun’dle of love!” She and Pobre, a tech entrepreneur, were wed earlier this month in a small ceremony in Mexico. They began dating last Fall after Keibler split with movie star George Clooney.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Arcade Fire – A giant papier-maché model of Richard Parry’s head went missing earlier this month during a gig in Bridgeport CT. The band has photos of the theft but has decided to  encourage the thief to return it rather than press charges. The bobblehead prop is part of a set that was used in the video for “Reflektor”.
• Rihanna – The Council of Fashion Designers of America has announced that the 26-year-old pop star will receive the ‘CFDA Fashion Icon Award’ on June 2nd in NYC. The annual award is presented to someone whose style has made a major impact on pop culture around-the-world.
• Shakira – She’s surpassed Rihanna to become the ‘Most-Liked Person’ on Facebook, amassing 86.6 million followers compared to her pop pal’s 86.3 million. The new mark comes just weeks after the twosome teamed up on the duet “Can’t Remember to Forget You”.

BS BUZZWORDS:
New cutting-edge vocab …
✓ ‘Digital Dementia’ – Impaired memory and cognitive functioning due to the excessive and extended use of digital devices. Experts say a 2-year-old who can nimbly use an iPad isn’t necessarily a genius. In fact, that child could be en route to suffering the malady.
✓ ‘Uptitling’ – Renaming a job with a grandiose or inflated title, thereby giving an employee a more senior job title in lieu of a pay raise. (“Congratulations Williams, you’re Vice-President of Weekends now …”)
✓ ‘Schlumpadinka’ – Slovenly or unkempt, especially due to laziness or lack of self-esteem. (“You need to get a job. You’re becoming a schlumpadinka, spending all day in your pajamas.”)

UP YOUR NOSE WITH A FILTER HOSE:
People with nasal allergy symptoms could one day find relief through a tiny filter worn inside the nose. The contact lens-sized filter, called ‘Rhinix’, would be placed inside the nose each day to filter out pollen and other allergens. The filter consists of a flexible frame inserted into both nostrils. The frame features a filtering membrane for each nostril, with a small plastic band visible at the bottom of the nostrils. Clinical trials have found it helps reduce sneezing, itching and runny nose symptoms, as well as throat irritation. Its Danish manufacturer is currently seeking FDA approval. (Not only functional … but oh-so-stylish!)

BS WAYS YOU’RE BLOWING YOUR MONEY:
✗ Credit card interest. The average person owes thousands on credit cards. If you constantly carry an unpaid balance, it’s worth considering whether you’re spending beyond your means.
✗ Designer clothing for babies or children. Does nothing but feed parents’ ego. Kids outgrow clothes and shoes quickly, and they tend to get them messy.
✗ Lottery tickets. The odds of winning on a typical ticket are 1-in-175 million, less than the odds of getting struck by lightning, getting killed by a shark or an asteroid, or being injured by a toilet.
✗ Speedy shipping. Emergency fast shipping is one thing, but paying extra simply for the sake of getting your hands on your newest purchase ASAP is a waste of money.
✗ Unclaimed tax refunds. People who do their own taxes often end up leaving money on the table. Each self-filer leaves behind $460 on average, according to H&R Block.
✗ Unused gift cards. A 2012 study estimated that about $2 billion-worth of gift cards went unredeemed. Why buy them when most people enjoy getting plain old money as a gift?
✗ Wasted energy. Energy efficiency program Energy Star says consumers can cut energy costs by a third if they use the recommendations and suggestions on its to-do list.
.✗ Wasted food. It’s estimated we blow over $500 per person each year by tossing away unwanted snacks and meals.

LOOK AT ME!
The ‘selfie’ is here to stay, according to Georgia Institute of Technology and Yahoo Labs researchers. Their new joint study has found that the key to attracting attention and comments on Instagram is to upload photos of people, not places. Pictures of people are 38% more likely to be ‘liked’ on  the image-sharing social network. The analysis of some 1.1 million posted photos concludes that human faces, and not cats or dogs, generate the largest positive response. Experts aren’t sure why faces are so popular, but plan to conduct more research to see if group shots have the same effect. (We like to look at people because we like to judge.)

FUN FACTS ABOUT FELINES:
A few things even ailurophiles (cat lovers) might find surprising …
• Cats can be allergic to you. Indoor cats in particular can be susceptible to cigarette smoke, dusty houses, human dandruff, pollen, and some kinds of cat litters.
• Cats aren’t always affected by catnip. In fact, half the cats in the world don’t respond at all.
• Cats can actually live with dogs. If they’re introduced while still young – 6 months for cats, 1 year for dogs – they’ll get along just fine.
• Cats have strategies for sharing space. A 2013 study concludes that they appear to ‘timeshare’ territory in order to avoid squabbles between themselves.
• Cat illnesses are often similar to ours. Cats are susceptible to more than 250 hereditary disorders, including their own form of Alzheimer’s.
• Cats get fat just like us. It’s estimated circa 55% of domestic cats are overweight or obese.
• Cats don’t necessarily purr because they’re happy. Sure, they purr when they are content, but also when they’re sick, wounded, giving birth, nursing, or in a stressful situation.
• Cats spend a lot of time grooming. OK, that isn’t surprising but just how much time is – up to 50% of their day. And when they groom you, it’s to show affection and mark you as family.

• 11% of us think March Madness basketball is a good reason to call in sick to work.
• 8% of babies born last year have their own email addresses.

WORLD’S MOST BIZARRE FOODS:
As selected by the Travel Channel program “Bizarre Foods America” …
• Bovine Blood – The Maasai people in Tanzania start every morning by drinking a tribal power shake of fresh cow’s blood (which they bleed) with fermented milk. It’s sort of like yogurt. Sorta.
• Damamian – Also known as rotten pork, it’s a rare dish prepared by Taiwanese aboriginals. It’s made of raw pork, rice, and salt which have been fermented and left to rot in a jar 30 days.
• Ox Penis – Prepared in a Vietnamese pho-like dish in spicy broth with noodles & vegetables. Different cuts of meat, such as kidney and spleen, are often also included.
• Palolo Worms – Coral worms that are pinkish-brown and/or blueish-green. A delicacy for Samoans and other South Pacific islanders.
• Rodents – In northern China, they take field rats, dust them off, and sauté them in chiles. It’s only done in villages away from mainstream bigger towns, but it’s still very popular.
• Stinky Tofu – At Dai’s House of Unique Stink in Taipei, tofu is immersed in decade-old, bacteria-rich, organic sludge. After 2 weeks, it smells like a Dumpster at the end of Summer.

BULL’S BITS

BAD HABITS YOU DEVELOP WHILE LIVING ALONE:
✗ Leaving your birthday party decorations up 9 months after your birthday.
✗ Leaving your Christmas decorations up … period.
✗ Letting your dirty dishes pile up in the kitchen. Mold casserole, anyone?
✗ Becoming a hermit because all you really want to do is stay home alone in your cave and binge-watch Netflix.
✗ Eating whole cartons of ice cream while binge-watching Netflix.
✗ Solo dance parties when your neighbors can see in your window. If you do this, at least be sure to wear clothes.
✗ Using your dining table for everything except dining. It’s a desk; it’s a place to fold laundry; it’s an arts & crafts studio …
✗ Not watering your plants. Then, not tossing them out after they’re deceased.
✗ Staying up super late, then falling asleep on the couch. Why do you even have a mattress?
✗ Owning a Snuggie. It’s a downward spiral …
(What bad or odd habits have you developed from living alone?)
