BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Ben Affleck claims his divorce from Jennifer Lopez was “drama-free.” In GQ’s April cover story, he insists that fans’ “eyes would glaze over with boredom” if they sat down and talked to him about his seemingly “sensational” life. Affleck went on to address his headline-making split — while denying Lopez’s documentary about them caused a “major fracture” in their romance. While he admitted he is “more reserved and private than” his ex-wife, he said he participated in the 2024 project in order to “love and support” her. Affleck emphasized that he has “nothing but respect” for Lopez, and the end of their marriage contained “no scandal, no soap opera [and] no intrigue.”

★ Sam Nivola has come clean. The “White Lotus” star admitted in an interview that he broke a nondisclosure agreement by warning some of his loved ones about his shocking sex scene in the HBO series. He said to Variety: “I told my parents, but I haven’t told my sister. She’s bad at keeping secrets.” Nivola, who is the son of actors Alessandro Nivola and Emily Mortimer, acknowledged he was “not supposed to have told anyone”, because he signed “a lot of NDAs” while working on the show. However, he also gave his girlfriend, Iris Apatow, a heads-up while on location in Thailand for Season 3.

★ Peacock has found its ‘Pamela Voorhees’ for the highly anticipated “Friday the 13th” prequel series, “Crystal Lake.” Linda Cardellini will play ‘Jason Voorhees’’ mom. Last month, it was leaked that Cardellini was in talks to play the role, which was originally being eyed by Charlize Theron. Best known for her role in “Freaks and Geeks,” Cardellini also starred in the Netflix original “Dead To Me,” a role which earned her an Emmy nomination. Little is known about the upcoming series — other than it is set in the immediate aftermath Jason Voorhees’ drowning as a young child.

★ Kevin Hart is set to star in “72 Hours,” an upcoming comedy directed by “Ride Along” filmmaker Tim Story. Hart will play a 40-year-old executive who hopes to save his flailing career by joining a group of 20-somethings on a 3-day bachelor party, after he’s accidentally added to their group text. 72 Hours is being produced under a deal between Sony and Netflix in which Sony will offer Netflix a first look at any films it intends to make for streaming. Hart is also co-producing.

★ The kickoff to Super Bowl LX is nearly a year away, but NBCUniversal is already chasing down big bucks for commercials. NBCU has indicated it will seek around $7 million for a 30-second ad in the Big Game, according to media buyers and others familiar with early conversations. That would be a little more than what Fox initially sought for ad time in Super Bowl LIX, which aired in February. Fox was eventually able to sell some commercials for an eye-popping $8 million, but those numbers came after the network experienced higher-than-anticipated demand. Later, some sponsors asked to get out of their deals following the California wildfires.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Miley Cyrus – has announced her new album “Something Beautiful” is coming May 30. On IG, she shared the cover art: a headshot of her gazing into the camera while modeling a crystal headpiece. She previously teased that the project would double as a visual album, taking inspiration from Pink Floyd’s “The Wall” — with a “better wardrobe…” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/hcuvkehz
(***Preview***) • Tate McRae – Her “Miss Possessive” world tour is now underway, and Billboard asked about her pre-show rituals. She revealed that she takes “one Grether’s Pastille (lozenge), then warms up her voice by doing all the vocal ad-libs in Rihanna‘s song ‘Bitch Better Have My Money’.
• Lizzo – has signed on to play the ‘Godmother of Rock N’ Roll’ Sister Rosetta Tharpe in the upcoming Amazon MGM studios biopic “Rosetta”. Tharpe was one of the first-ever gospel singers who also appealed to rock n’ roll and R&B audiences. She is also considered a revolutionary guitarist.
• Foreigner – has announced a fall Canadian tour without longtime singer Kelly Hansen. Guest vocalist Geordie Brown will fill in on the tour, set to begin Oct. 21 in St. John’s NL, and end Nov. 7 in Kelowna BC. Browne played the lead in the workshop production of “Juke Box Hero, The Musical”, which is set to go into production in 2026. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/mu3hh9dx
• Metallica – Kirk Hammett told Rolling Stone that he has 767 riffs for the group’s next album. Quote: “New ones, bro. Oh God. It is such a nightmare going through this stuff, too. I can’t do it. And I’m the one responsible for all of it.”
• Eddie Vedder – His new cover of Neil Young’s ‘The Needle and the Damage Done’ has been released. It will appear on the tribute album “Heart of Gold: The Songs of Neil Young (Vol. 1)”, to benefit the Bridge School. Other artists who contributed to the record, out April 25, include Brandi Carlile, Mumford & Sons, Lumineers, Steve Earle, and The Doobie Brothers. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4yx3zfv6
• Eric Church – is among the first performers to be announced for the 60th Academy of Country Music Awards, set for May 8. Blake Shelton and reigning ACM entertainer of the year Lainey Wilson are also set to sing at the ceremony, at Ford Center at The Star in Frisco TX. Returning host Reba McEntire was already on board to lead the show, which will stream on Prime Video Live.
• Parker McCollum – His 5th studio album will arrive this summer. He made the announcement over the weekend, during his 3rd consecutive sold-out show at the Houston Rodeo. The record, simply titled “Parker McCollum”, will drop June 27. He calls it “honest”, “raw”, and 1,000% authentic Parker.”
(***Preview***) • Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani — have had 2 country hits together with love songs, but their next collab, ‘Hangin’ On’ will be darker, because it’s a breakup song. But don’t think that the song is a sign of the times in their relationship. Shelton said that he and Stefani cut the track, to be featured on his new “For Recreational Use Only” album, because “it’s a badass country song.”

DOOR DASH, WHEN YOU’RE SHORT ON CASH:
In case you missed it when it was announced last week (like I did…), DoorDash has announced that you’ll be able to eat now, and pay later. The meal delivery service has entered into a deal with global payments service Klarna to offer users the option of interest-free payment plans for their food orders. That means that if you order food, and don’t pay in full, you can defer payment “to a more convenient time,” according to DoorDash. Like when? “Such as a date that aligns with…paycheck schedules.” Users will also have the option of splitting payments into 4 equal interest-free installments.
(It’s not like this is new. Wasn’t it ‘Wimpy’ from the “Popeye” comic strip who said: “I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today”?)
(“Great. Now I can officially be in debt over a burrito. My future self is already mad at me for this!)

EXTREME SPORT REPORT:
➢ There were exactly zero finishers in this year’s Barkley Marathons, an extremely perilous and peculiar race that consists of five 20+ mile loops in Frozen Head State Park TN. It is not uncommon for the ultra-ultramarathon to have no finishers, because it forces competitors to complete the off-track competition without the use of GPS. Runners must use a map and compass to navigate to locations on the route and collect pages from hidden books to prove they arrived there. The route and rendezvous locations vary from year to year, and race organizers are said to make the race more difficult to finish each year.
(Is this what they refer to as a “no-fun run?)
➢ Mount Everest expedition organizers will operate drones to airlift items up the mountain this climbing season. Why? To reduce the heavy loads carried by Sherpas, thereby lessening the risk of fatal accidents. The drones can carry up to 35 pounds (16kg) in high altitudes, and are able to make the treacherous trip from base camp to “Camp 1” (a 7-hour trek by foot) in just 15 minutes. In addition to transporting things like oxygen cylinders and hot meals, the drones can also be used to help keep the mountain clean. A trial run resulted in the removal of 1,300 pounds (590kg) of waste. The drones cost up to $70,000 each. (So now a drone can deliver a hot meal on Everest, but I still can’t get decent Wi-Fi in my bathroom?)

THE NUMBERS ON MATH ANXIETY:
Today is “World Math Day”, but some people definitely aren’t celebrating. Do you get all anxious when you’re faced with a situation where you need to do a math problem in your head? It’s a thing. And despite the fact that most of the time, we all have a handy calculator within reach on our phones, a new poll found that 64% of people still suffer from math anxiety – and 13% rate their symptoms as severe. The survey, taken in the US, found that nearly half of people feel that their math-phobia has held them back at work or school. Gen Z is particularly affected, with 62% saying math anxiety has caused them problems. Women experience it more frequently than men—70% compared to 57%. And 37% said their math anxiety interferes with their ability to make smart money decisions – such as budgeting and investing.
(Same. But you can be darn sure I know how much I’m paying for each and every egg in that carton, lately!)
(I can’t even COUNT the number of times I’ve had anxiety about math…literally!)

EMAIL MISTAKES:
Make the lives of everyone in your address book better by no longer making these email mistakes, according to the experts consulted by business mag Fast Company…
✗ Using ALL CAPS in the subject line: As you know, all-caps is the internet equivalent of yelling, and no one likes to be yelled at. Scammers use this technique to convince people to open the email, and it’s no longer effective. (Even worse: Using NOTHING in the subject line!)
✗ Unclear subject lines: Don’t put something generic in the subject line, like “Hi.” If the subject isn’t clear, it can be difficult for the receiver to refer back to that email. And don’t forget to change the subject line if the conversation shifts during follow-up replies. (Whaaaaaa?)
✗ Not Using Cc and Bcc: FYI, adding people in the “to” section means that a reply is expected. “cc” informs recipients that they are being informed, but no action is required. “bcc” lets recipients know that their involvement as bystanders is secret. (And THAT always goes well, doesn’t it?)
✗ Common courtesy: Do not write too much or too little. A short email is good, as long as it covers what needs to be covered. And always close with an expression of gratitude, such as “Thanks”, or even better, “Thanks in advance”. These sign-offs increase response rate by 36%.
✗ Sending emails on a Monday: While it’s not strictly wrong to do this, keep in mind recipients aren’t always in the best mood on that day, and are more prone to making mistakes. Maybe wait for Tuesday, unless it’s urgent.
✗ Expecting an immediate response: Some people forget that email and texting are not the same thing. When sending a non-urgent email, remember that the recipient might have other important things to do — and they may not even see your message for hours – or more. (Besides, it’s kinda creepy when they reply RIGHT AWAY, right?)
(What email mannerisms do YOU wish people would stop doing?)

DID YOU KNOW?
A man who claims to own the world’s oldest cat says she just celebrated her 30th birthday – complete with birthday cake. Leslie Greenhough of Stockport UK believes his tortoiseshell kitty, named Millie, who was born in 1995, is the oldest living feline. Millie was first owned by Leslie’s late wife, who got her in 1995 – when the kitten was 3 months old. Leslie attributes the cat’s long life to “lots of treats, “cuddles on the sofa” and bottled water. To celebrate Millie’s 30th, Leslie had a cake made, featuring Millie’s face, and decorated it with 30 candles. (True to form, Millie appeared indifferent, then pooped in his flip-flop!)
