BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ The first “Downton Abbey” film hasn’t even hit theatres yet, but a sequel seems to already be in the works.  The first film is due to be released later this year and will continue on from the ITV show that ended in 2015. Show creator Julian Fellowes has revealed that there will be some type of happy ending in the film, “So a follow up is a possibility.”  A post on the official “Downton Abbey” Facebook page says “The doors to Downton Abbey will open once more on Friday, September 20, 2019 in North America and Friday, September 13, 2019 internationally. Be sure to dust off your finery for our big screen debut.”

★ Colin Farrell says that Tim Burton is a ”very magical” filmmaker. Farrell spent a lot of his breaks in the filming of Disney’s live-action remake of “Dumbo” by sitting on set and watching his director in action because Burton was so ”engaged” with the filmmaking process. Farrell says: ”Tim Burton is lovely. I loved working with him, I really did. I could watch him on a film set all day.” Dumbo opens in theatres this Friday.

★ Michael Madsen was jailed after getting into a car accident Sunday evening. The “Reservoir Dogs” actor was arrested in L.A. after crashing his Land Rover into a pole. Police are reported to have arrived at the scene and found Madsen smelling of alcohol. A sobriety test revealed a blood alcohol level of .10, well over the legal limit of .08. Bail was reportedly set at $15,000. It’s not the first time Madsen has been charged with a DUI. In 2012, he was arrested for driving at twice the legal blood alcohol limit, prompting him to enter rehab for 30 days.

She also hit a social media milestone when she overtook Selena Gomez to become the most followed female on Instagram, with Grande’s 149 million followers surpassing Gomez’s 147 million.
• Justin Bieber — An Iceland canyon has been closed to the public over concerns that it has been negatively impacted by an influx of visitors since it was featured in his ‘I’ll Show You’ video. 150,000 tourists visited the canyon in 2017, and the number increased to 282,000 the following year.
• Mötley Crüe — Nikki Sixx says scenes in “The Dirt” about his relationship with his mother “brought up a lot of pain.” His Mother abandoned him at the age of six. Several attempts at re-connection failed before her death in 2013. Sixx says that he “realized later on in therapy that I’m just a product of that upbringing. But me and my mom could never meet in the middle. It’s not something I’m proud of.”
• Cyndi Lauper – will return to her alma mater, Northern Vermont University-Johnson, to give its commencement address on May 18. Lauper attended what was then known as Johnson State College in the 1970s.

• Blake Shelton – His next single, ‘God’s Country’ was written by Devin Dawson and fellow up-and-comer Hardy. Speaking about the song, Dawson says, “Hardy and I both come from, like, a metal background, and it’s pretty heavy, man. But it still has the lyric that I need, to chew on. It has heart.”
• The Oak Ridge Boys – will release a holiday album this fall. Produced by Dave Cobb (Jason Isbell, Sturgill Simpson, Chris Stapleton), the new holiday collection follows the Oaks’ 2016 yuletide offering, “Celebrate Christmas”. The group will also release a Cobb-produced album in 2020 that features a collection of classics and standards.

EATING MEDITERRANEAN TONIGHT?
A committee of scientists from 16 countries recently got together to determine what would be the best diet for humans to adopt with the idea of keeping ourselves…and our planet as healthy as possible.  What did they come up with?  Something called the “Planetary Health Diet”, which involves a shift away from processed food and red meat and toward a diet centered on plants.  But NOT vegetarianism.  Their proposed diet is similar to the Mediterranean diet, which involves more whole grains, lots of fruit and veggies, and less starch and sugar. Its daily calories come mainly from rice, wheat, and corn, unsaturated oils like olive oil, and a little bit of dairy. As far as meat goes, it encourages lean choices like chicken and fish. They say if most of the world ate this way, it would help alleviate six sustainability issues associated with agriculture, including climate change, biodiversity collapse, and water usage. It could also meet the needs of the growing global population, unlike our current patterns.
(OK, but that stuff is going to be really to hard to find at a drive-thru on the way home!)

THE ONLY THING WE HAVE TO FEAR . . .

The most common advice when it comes to getting over an irrational (or for that matter, a perfectly rational) fear is often this: “Face your fears head-on.”  Now, new neuroscience research is giving the practice a green light by demonstrating just what happens in your brain when you face your fears. Researchers from the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) felt the need to find out how exactly the brain gets rid of traumatic memories when a person faces their fears. What they found is that that the formation of a new, non-fearful memory (such as touching a spider and nothing going wrong) actually quiets the old, fearful memory (ack! spiders!); either that or the old, fearful memory is actually rewritten to become the new, non-fearful memory, which is also a good thing. While your natural tendency might be to simply avoid anything that you are afraid of, science says that over time, doing so could just make your fear become worse.  So, face your fears…you’ll be glad you did!
(I was afraid they were going to say that…)
(I’m OK with spiders. But spiders at great heights…THAT I have a problem with!)

THINGS YOUR MECHANIC WISHES YOU WOULD STOP DOING:
➢ Ignoring the “check engine” light:  Doing so never pays.  Get it checked before the problem causes more damage.
➢ Waiting too long on routine maintenance:  Follow the guidelines in your manual, and avoid the major expenses that can come with not changing oil, coolant and other fluids on time. (Shouldn’t I have a ‘light’ for that too?)
➢ Ignoring unusual noises:  Vehicles in good condition don’t make squealing, screeching, grinding, rumbling, clicking or clunking sounds (neither does mine, if the radio is loud enough…)
➢ Buying a used car without a professional inspection:  Spend the $200 and enjoy the peace of mind that comes with a professional analysis of the condition of your new vehicle. (Hey!  I was only looking to spend $200 on the whole car!)
➢ Driving on worn tires:  Low tread depth greatly increases your chances of getting into a crash…which can cost you big-time.
➢ Ignoring oily wet stains on your driveway:  That’s a sign that the engine, power-steering, brakes, or transmission are leaking (and as a result, the fluid levels are low).  (So, take your car in, and let it leak on the mechanic’s driveway!)
➢ Bringing in a dirty car:  They might have to fish the spare tire our of a cluttered trunk or wade through a month’s worth of juice boxes and empty fast-food containers to access something in the cabin.  Clean it up (and out) first.  (Yes, we wouldn’t want a mechanic to get dirty, would we?)
➢ Bringing your own parts:  Some people buy parts online and expect the shop to install them for just the cost of labor. (Would you bring your own ham & eggs to a restaurant and ask them to cook ‘em up?)

DID YOU KNOW?
Regularly swallowing hot drinks nearly doubles the risk of developing oesophageal cancer.  A study of 50,000 people by the American Cancer Society has found that drinking 700ml per day of tea (around three cups) at 60 C or higher appears to be “consistently associated” with a 90 per cent increased risk of contracting the disease. The carcinogenic effect is likely to stem from repeated scalding of the food pipe, which damages cells. Alcohol and smoking have a similar impact on cells and can also cause oesophageal cancer.
