Sheet For Brains!

WEEKEND TABLOID & BLOG BS:

• Doctors say it may be possible that 47-year-old former Poison frontman Brett Michaels could be healthy enough to appear on “The Celebrity Apprentice” finalé May 23rd. Currently recuperating from a massive brain hemorrhage, he’s one of 7 contestants remaining. While most of the show is pre-taped, the finalé requires the last 2 contestants to debate in front of host Donald Trump. Michaels’ reps seem to disagree, saying he’s still in poor health and in need of more tests before his condition will improve.

TOPS IN T-P:

The World Wildlife Fund for Nature estimates that around 27,000 trees are felled each day to feed the world’s toilet paper needs. A usage study by watchdog organization World Watch has found that Americans use the most TP, going through a whopping 23 kilos (50.7 lbs) each per year. That figure is equivalent to using 57 squares a day. On the flip side, the average resident of Denmark uses a meager 13 kilos (28.7 lbs) of toilet paper annually, a figure at the ‘bottom’ for countries in the Western world. According to World Watch, much of the problem of TP overusage stems from the production of ‘extra soft’ products, which take far more material than a normal roll. (Time to go back to the Sears catalogue!)

MOOD FOOD:

A new study has found that people who regularly eat chocolate are more depressive. Many believe that chocolate has the power to lift mood, and University of California @ San Diego researchers say this may be true, although scientific proof is lacking. They also say they cannot rule out that chocolate may be a cause rather than the cure for depression. In the study of some 1,000 adults, the more chocolate the men & women consumed the lower their mood. Those who ate most – more than 6 regular-size bars a month – scored the highest for depression. So the core question is yet to be answered: Does depression make us crave chocolate or does it actually cause depression? (What’s your favorite ‘comfort food’?)

WAYS TO PICK UP GIRLS THAT ONLY WORK IN THE MOVIES:
• Literally Bumping Into Them (“Step Up 2”): A guy – either in the halls of his high school or maybe an art gallery – literally bumps into a girl and BAM! … there’s an instant attraction.
• Writing a Mushy Love Letter (“Can’t Hardly Wait”): You pour your heart out on a sheet of paper explaining how much you love a girl. In real life she’d file a restraining order for stalking.
• Getting a Makeover (“Can’t Buy Me Love”): A total nerd gets a new haircut and wears trendy clothes, and all of a sudden he’s the cool kid? Not likely.
• Simply Being a Nerd (“American Pie” films): Are there really girls who look like Shannon Elizabeth that can’t control their hormones around band geeks and uber-dorks?
• Being Poor When the Girl Is Rich (“Titanic”): In the real world, trash collectors and maintenance guys don’t have a shot with a Hollywood actress or New York socialite.

Overall, about 1-in-10 pet owners say they often talk their troubles over with their pets. (Husbands, if you end up in the dog house, consider it a promotion!)

FOR THE RECORD:

Indian military scientists are studying an 82-year-old who claims he’s not had any food or drink … for 70 years. Prahlad Jani says he survives on ‘spiritual life force’. He’s being kept in isolation in an Ahmedabad hospital where he’s being closely monitored while going day after day without food or water. Doctors will continue observing him for 15 days, during which time they’d expect to see serious dehydration, weight loss, and fatigue. Researchers think he may have a genuine ability which could help save lives.
