100% ‘Grade A’ Bull!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:

18-year-old reality TV star Alexis Neiers (E!’s “Pretty Wild”) has pleaded no contest to felony burglary of “Pirates Of the Caribbean” actor Orlando Bloom’s LA home and been sentenced to 6 months in jail & 3 years probation (most importantly, did they get this on film for the show?) . . . This week NYC’s Apollo Theater began its own ‘Walk of Fame’, installing bronze plaques on the sidewalk outside honoring entertainers who’ve performed at the famed venue (James Brown, Smokey Robinson, Ella Fitzgerald are the first) . . . Reports suggest that cult TV series “Chuck” is returning to NBC-TV (could it be fans’ save-the-show campaign actually worked?) . . . “Gossip Girl” (CW) will kick off its 4th season this Fall with a pair of episodes set & shot in Paris, France (in French, she’d be “La Fille Bavarde”) . . . Oscar-winning actress Sandra Bullock has been spotted in a rare public appearance since hubby Jesse James cheating scandal surfaced, strolling in the French Quarter of New Orleans, the city where her baby son was born (photos suggests she’s lost weight – about 200 lbs of tattooed deadweight) . . . Famous person Lindsay Lohan has ‘teamed’ with former Dolce & Gabbana handbag designer Paz Shaked Wolf to create a new line of nightclub-inspired handbags that will be tagged “It” when they hit the market at the end of this year (BS translation: Wolf designed; Lohan clubbed) . . . And it’s been announced that Mia Michaels, Adam Shankman, and Nigel Lythgoe will make up the judging panel on the new season of FOX-TV’s “So You Think You Can Dance” (debuting May 27th) as excitable screamer Mary Murphy will only appear sporadically as a ‘guest judge’ (cool, this season’s going to be a lot easier on the ears!).

TODAY’S SHOW BIZ SKED:

• “American Idol” (FOX/CTV) – Daughtry performs; Bon Jovi performs; another contestant is eliminated, leaving 3 finalists.

• “Jimmy Kimmel Live” (ABC/CityTV) – BoB (“The Adventures of Bobby Ray”).

BS MUSIC NOTES:

• The Doors – Tonight a new feature documentary, “American Masters: When You’re Strange”, premieres on PBS-TV. The biographical film features previously unseen footage of the 1960s-70s band. It’s narrated by Johnny Depp.
• Elton John – He’ll perform at a music festival later this month in Morocco as scheduled as organizers are defying calls from some Islamic politicians to ban the openly-gay star.
• Lady Gaga – She’s already announced upcoming tour dates … for 2011! Adding another leg to her long and tireless “Monster Ball” tour, the new dates kick off in Atlantic City NJ February 19th.
• Red Hot Chili Peppers – Drummer Chad Smith tells “Music Radar” he expects the band to officially begin recording a new album in July, for which they’ve already written 20 songs.

BS BUZZWORDS:

New terms leaking into the lingo –
• ‘Hand Cannon’ – Slang for a powerful handgun. (“Gang leader Weasel Boy Tempesta is in hospital suffering a strained biceps from repetitively wielding a 32-lb hand cannon.”)
• ‘Not Mind Safe’ – Something so extremely disturbing, it’s not worth putting into your mind. (“That MIA video on YouTube is interesting but after watching it you realize it’s totally NMS … Not Mind Safe.”)
• ‘Solastalgia’ – Yearning for the way a beloved place used to be. (“Every time I visit the old neighborhood I’m filled with solastalgia for when there were more trees and fewer strip malls.”)

FACE-TIME VS FACEBOOK:
A new study shows face-to-face socializing beats online interaction hands down. The ‘Happiness Barometer’, conducted in 16 countries, has found that 40% of respondents consider ‘catching up with loved ones after work’ the happiest time of their day. 20% pick ‘sitting down to a family meal’. By contrast, only 5% are happiest when ‘connecting with friends online’. Partners and families are, by far, the biggest source of happiness for 80% of those surveyed, with friends following at 15%. (Hmm, don’t see ‘Employee Review Sessions’ anywhere in the top 1,000.

THE COLOR OF GLUTTONY:
An interesting marketing & nutritional science study at the University of Illinois suggests that food presentation and its variety of colors helps determine how much we want to eat. In one experiment, participating adults ate 69% more jellybeans when 6 colors were mixed together in the same bowl than when the colors were sorted into separate bowls. In another experiment, moviegoers ate 43% more M&Ms when given 10 colors than those who were offered the same amount in 7 colors. (And there’s nothing more appetizing than that ‘technicolor rainbow’ you heave up afterward.)

NO REST FOR THE DYING:

Getting less than 6 hours sleep per night can lead to an early grave, a team of UK and Italian researchers warns. They say people regularly getting that little sleep are 12% more likely to die over a 25-year period than those who get an ideal 6-to-8 hours nightly. One reason is that drowsiness from insufficient sleep increases the risk of driving accidents or mishaps operating dangerous machinery. On the other hand, the study also finds a link between sleeping more than 9 hours and early death, although that much sleep may merely be an indicator of ill health. (If lack of sleep kills you, there shouldn’t be a morning radio team left alive.)

FOR THE RECORD:

A man so obsessed with breaking records that he changed his name to ‘Guinness’ is hoping to gain entry into the world record book by … tattooing the flag of every country on his body. 67-year-old Guinness Rishi of India plans to have 220 flags inked on within 3 years at a cost of about $19,000. He says his face is being reserved for the ‘most important’ flags; he already has 6 of them there, including India, the UK, the US, and Canada. He thinks he can fit around 60 1-inch flags on his head alone. Afterward, he’ll have the remaining flags added from his neck downward in alphabetical order. (Pity Zimbabwe.)
