BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ A man has been hospitalized with serious injuries after a shooting outside Drake’s home in Toronto. Paramedics told reporters that the man’s injuries are not considered life-threatening, and police have confirmed that Drake was not the victim. The shooting took place at about 2am on Tuesday, and responding officers found a man with serious injuries, who was taken to hospital. The Toronto Sun claims that the man shot was one of Drake’s security guards, but that is unconfirmed.

★ Gisele Bündchen is reportedly “deeply disappointed” by the jokes made about her ill-fated marriage to Tom Brady during the ex-quarterback’s Netflix roast on Sunday. The Brazilian model, who divorced the 7-time Super Bowl champ in 2022, found herself to be the butt of several jokes during the proceedings, and People is reporting that she is aghast at the disrespectful portrayal of her family. Among the barbs sent her way, host Kevin Hart took aim at Bündchen and her jiu-jitsu trainer boyfriend Joaquim Valente.

★ Tracy Morgan will star in a new Paramount+ comedy series that is set in the same world as the CBS show “The Neighborhood”. In the half-hour comedy, titled “Crutch,” Morgan will play ‘Frank Crutchfield’, or ‘Crutch’, a “Harlem widower whose empty-nest plans are put on hold after his millennial son and free-spirited daughter move back home.” The Neighborhood star and executive producer Cedric the Entertainer will executive produce. Production will begin later this year.

★ Bethenny Frankel and her fiancé, Paul Bernon, have reportedly ended their relationship after nearly 6 years together. Us Weekly quotes a friend of the couple as saying: “It just wasn’t going to work,” adding that the pair split about 2 months ago. The “Real Housewives of New York City” star and Bernon have sparked breakup speculation for weeks, after fans noticed Frankel not wearing her engagement ring in several social media videos. The pair met on a dating app in 2018.

★ DC Studios has finally revealed the first official look at David Corenswet as the new Man of Steel in an updated “Superman” suit for the upcoming film. Writer-director James Gunn’s movie is currently in production. While the new Superman logo had already been revealed, with the production experiencing a first-look leak of the character ‘The Engineer’, DC decided to beat the paparazzi at their own game, and released the new pic of the superhero’s uniform to Gunn’s Threads account. “Superman” will hit theaters in July 2025. SHOOTING THE BULL

SLEEPCATION:
It’s the latest vacation trend, and it’s one that I’m sure we could all use. Taking a “sleepcation” is a getaway that takes the opposite approach to a traditional vacation where you might run yourself ragged trying to hit every amazing attraction you’ve seen on TikTok, and pack in a pile of enriching activities at the same time. And what, exactly, is a sleepcation? It can be as simple taking a vacation with the intention to get a good night — or a few good nights — of sleep. That could involve checking into a hotel in your own city, one with a special sleep package that includes enhanced ways to get a great night of sleep ― like a fancy bed, blackout curtains, sound machines or some sleep-enhancing supplements. Or, you could book yourself into a full-on sleep retreat, where experts can help guide your physical and mental wellness to make sure you leave feeling renewed, refreshed and relaxed.
(Sounds simple and relaxing. Of course, once my wife gets involved, it’s going to become incredibly organized, rigid, overbooked, and financially crippling!)
(Well, I always said the perfect vacation would one where I don’t have to wear pants…!)

EXER-WISE:
➢ Scientists at Ohio State University say exercise breaks during long lectures can help both professors and students stay focused and energized. Their study determined that 5-minute exercise sessions during lectures were not only feasible but also capable of having a positive impact on students’ attention and motivation, engagement with their peers, and their enjoyment of the course. Some of the exercises performed by students included jumping jacks, lunges, overhead presses (with a backpack), and hamstring stretches. The author of the study feels that it’s impossible for anyone to “stay on task for 80 minutes straight” without their attention span waning, and by giving students an exercise break, “it can help get their minds back to the lecture.” (And over in gym class, they’re still trying to convince the jocks to take a break from exercise to study for 5 minutes!)
➢ Recent research says the secret to succeeding at a fitness goal might be…having a supportive friend. A Berkeley University study found that those who paired their workouts with a pal were more likely to show up and pump up, than those who plan to exercise solo. The research team concluded that 2 benefits made the buddy system more bankable. First, people enjoyed the social aspect of going to the gym with a friend, making it something to look forward to. Second, meeting a friend at the gym gave those participants a sense of accountability that led to consistent follow-through. (My friends are much more likely to support me in a chicken wing eating contest than in getting fit!)

POOR SAP:
Scientists say they have developed a new method to determine whether tree sap is low quality (also known as “buddy sap”) or syrup-grade. Canadian researchers (naturally, considering the subject matter) from Ottawa’s Carleton University have developed “test strips” which work similarly to a Covid or pregnancy test. The strip is placed in the sap sample for 2 minutes, after which one or two lines will appear. Two lines indicate the sample is clean. One indicates can’t be turned into maple syrup. They hope to make the strips available next year. The way things work now, syrup producers have to boil sap down and carry out the entire syrup-making process before they are able to determine it is OK for consumers.
(…or if they have to sell it to a Waffle House!)
***Caution*** (So if the test shows just one line, the stuff gets canceled, just like Aunt Jemima?)

THE BEST OSCAR-WINNING MOVIES OF ALL-TIME:
According to a consultation with 10 “expert” websites…
1. “Casablanca” (1942): It has not only improved with age, it boasts career-defining performances from Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman.
2. “Schindler’s List” (1993): Featuring notable performances by Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes, it is often considered one of the most accurate and brutal depictions of Holocaust atrocities in film.
3. “The Silence of the Lambs” (1991): While maybe not the most cinematic movie, it is a wonderfully scripted and acted mystery, headlined by Oscar-winning performances from Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins.
4. “The Godfather” Part I (1972) and II (1974): The experts couldn’t quite decide which part of the famous trilogy is better, but they are a package deal anyway. With violence, betrayal, drama, Marlon Brando and Al Pacino, the sprawling gangster epic features what’s possibly the greatest cast ever assembled.
5. “On the Waterfront” (1954) and “All About Eve” (1950) [Tie]: The 2 films received the same amount of positive expert mentions. All About Eve is “a smart, sophisticated, and devastatingly funny Hollywood classic that only improves with age”, while On the Waterfront is undeniably moving, featuring “A fleet of good performances” in its tale about a decent man (Marlon Brando) who stands up to corruption.

DID YOU KNOW?
Researchers from Hamilton, Ontario’s McMaster University say that expiration dates on your groceries don’t paint an accurate picture of when it’s time to throw out food, and there are several new packaging products could soon check for bacteria and signal when it’s time to dispose of it. But the problem is that despite estimates that it would only cost pennies to add this smart technology to each bag or box of food, manufacturers are reluctant to tack on more costs to already rising grocery prices. The researchers, however, argue that smart packaging would end up SAVING consumers money by cutting down on food waste. (What we actually need is a “pushed to the back of the fridge” detector!)
