BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
TODAY “Out” magazine hosts a gala in NYC to unveil its 11th annual list of ‘100 Most Influential People in Gay Culture’, which includes Spanish prime minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero (‘Humanitarian of the Year’), actress Sharon Stone (‘Straight Ally’), and Melissa Etheridge (‘Entertainer of the Year’) . . . TODAY former heavyweight boxing champ Mike Tyson is scheduled to appear in court in Sao Paulo, Brazil on charges of assault & destruction of property concerning an altercation with a TV cameraman outside a nightclub . . . TONIGHT a tribute to ‘80s rocker Cyndi Lauper at Atlantic City’s Trump Taj Mahal will include Shaggy, Velvet Revolver’s Scott Weiland, and Train singer Pat Monahan (to be taped for later airing on VH-1) . . . SATURDAY a charity concert at NYC’s Lincoln Center called “Broadway Meets Country” will include performances by Trace Adkins, Lee Ann Womack & Trisha Yearwood, joined by Broadway stars like Bernadette Peters . . . SUNDAY NBC-TV airs Penn & Teller’s 2-hour special “Off the Deep End”, the first magic show performed entirely underwater (illusions will include making a submarine disappear in the Caribbean) . . . Nielsen Media Research reveals that NBC is the 2005 leader in the field of ‘product placement on TV’, getting paid to use products within its programs some 21,286 times, more than double LAST YEAR’s flog factor . . . CBS-TV has ordered up 2 more “Survivor” seasons, the 13th and 14th editions, for the 2006-07 season but has not announced locations (season #12 is now shooting) . . . “The Daily Show’s” Lewis Black is delivering a few comic riffs on – the Weather Channel in the US, an attempt to get viewers to lighten up about the forecast (other comedians/celebs are expected to follow – an idea for Canada’s Weather Network?) . . . Tickets are already on sale for Radio City Music Hall’s famous “Rockettes Christmas Spectacular”, which is playing Toronto’s Hummingbird Centre beginning NOVEMBER 14th – but that’s not until 2006! . . . And former “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” host Regis Philbin is returning to primetime NEXT YEAR as host of a revival of “This Is Your Life”, a show that originated in the ‘40s which details the life story of famous guests, complete with surprise walk-ons by friends & relatives (this could be the death of Reg’ – he’ll be turning 75 NEXT YEAR!).

• Billy Joel – He’s returning to the road in JANUARY. No, don’t worry! He won’t be driving, just touring for the first time in 8 years.
• Elton John – He’s a big fan of “Desperate Housewives” and is begging producers for a cameo role because, he says, “It’s so bitchy and funny!”
• 50 Cent – TODAY he flogs his film on both ABC-TV’s “The View” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live”.

• Mary J Blige – SATURDAY she receives the ‘V-Legend Award’ at the “2005 Vibe Awards”, to be taped in LA for broadcast TUESDAY. Ciara leads nominations with 5, followed by 50 Cent with 4. Wonder who’ll get stabbed at this year’s event?
• Snoop Dogg – His next product endorsement to hit the market will be ‘Snoop Doggs’, foot-long hot dogs due to hit stores in JANUARY. Why? There just aren’t any celebrity hot dogs out there!
• U2 – Bono took his name from a hearing-aid brand, ‘Bono Vox’, which is Latin for ‘Good Voice’.

• Just in time for northern winter, Tokyo-based underwear maker Triumph International has unveiled – the ‘Warm Biz Bra’. It features removable pads that can be heated in a microwave or hot water, as well as long, furry straps that wrap around the neck like a scarf. According to advertising flak, ‘Warm Biz’ helps you look chic AND reduce global warming.
• After a cat escaped in the cargo hold of a Czech Airlines plane, officials decided it was ‘too dangerous’ to allow passengers back on-board so the flight from Frankfurt to Prague was cancelled. The plane returned to Prague virtually empty, with just the crew & cat on board, where it was dismantled until the feline was finally found.
• In southern Sweden, a moose cow & calf have regularly become intoxicated from mowing down on fermented apples outside a home. In fact, they’ve become so drunk and aggressive cops have trouble scaring them off. The only thing that seems to encourage the duo to go home and sleep it off is calling in a hunter with a dog.
• Men in Serbia are lining up to have electric shocks delivered to their – ‘nads. It’s a new contraceptive treatment in which electrodes are attached to administer a low electrical current. It purportedly temporarily stuns sperm into a state of immobility for up to 10 days. Fertility expert Dr Sava Bojovic says he’s hoping to have a small battery-powered version available in time for the holiday season.

The new magazine, “Total 180″, is aimed at women who have left their careers in favor of full-time motherhood. It refers to them as ‘CHOs’ (‘Chief Household Officers’). The founders, 3 California women who quit their jobs, say that even if their new magazine is a big hit they won’t lose their own ‘CHO’ status. Putting out the publication only takes up about 4 hours a day for each of them.

TODAY is “Remembrance Day”, commemorating the end of WWI at 11 am on the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. It’s observed in Canada, Britain, the USA (renamed Veterans Day in 1954), Belgium & France (Armistice Day).
• French Army clerk Henri Deledicq finished typing the peace treaty that would end WWI at 5 am 11/11/18. Apparently tired, he put the carbon paper in backwards and later in a railroad car in France, military leaders signed copies of an armistice that were completely unreadable.
• The Remembrance Day poppy program run by the Canadian Legion raises over $5 million each year for veterans’ causes.
• The original tradition is to observe TWO minutes silence at 11 am.

The warm weather that often occurs around this time is called ‘St Martin’s Summer’ in Europe, ‘Indian Summer’ in North America.
