TODAY the new computer game SingStar Rocks! is released exclusively for PlayStation, a competitive singing game that features real songs & music videos from some of today’s hottest artists, like Gwen Stefani’s “Cool” and Fall Out Boy’s “Dance, Dance” . . . • Neil Young – TODAY the album “Live At The Fillmore East” launches the new “Neil Young Archives Performance Series”. It was recorded with his band Crazy Horse on March 6 & 7, 1970 at NYC’s Fillmore East, a pair of concerts that have since become legendary.
• Panic! At The Disco – TONIGHT they do “Late Night With Conan O’Brien” (NBC).
• Taylor Hicks/Katharine McPhee – TODAY the “American Idol 5″ winner and runner-up both release their debut albums.
• Tenacious D – TONIGHT Jack Black & Kyle Gass play on “Late Show With David Letterman” (CBS) to hype their new movie “The Pick of Destiny” (out NOVEMBER 22nd). Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl plays drums on the movie’s soundtrack, which is being released TODAY.

• “Accepted” ( Teen Comedy ): A high school slacker invents a bogus university to prevent his parents from finding out he’s been rejected by every college he applied to. But thanks to a hot website, his fake ‘South Harmon Institute of Technology’ starts attracting legit students. There are 39 shots of Apple Computers in the movie, perhaps explaining why star Justin Long (“Dodgeball”) became a company spokesman. Co-stars include Jonah Hill and comedian Lewis Black (“The Daily Show”).
• “The Da Vinci Code” ( Thriller ): Director Ron Howard’s take on Dan Brown’s bazillion-selling novel features Tom Hanks as famed Harvard symbologist ‘Robert Langdon’ and a supporting cast that includes Audrey Tautou, Jean Reno, Ian McKellen, Alfred Molina, and Paul Bettany. If you don’t know the story by now, you must have been in a coma. Comes in several versions including “The Da Vinci Code Gift Set” (Special Edition, Widescreen version on 2 discs with bonus “Cryptex” and the “Langdon Journal”). The 2nd-biggest movie of the year, taking in $756 million in worldwide box office.
• “He Changed Our World” ( Documentary ): The memorial service held SEPTEMBER 20th in Beerwah, Australia for “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin on a limited-edition DVD, with proceeds to benefit his Wildlife Warriors fund to continue his work with endangered species and habitat protection and run his Australian wildlife hospital. Celebs appearing include Russell Crowe, Cameron Diaz & Justin Timberlake, Larry King, and Kevin Costner.
• “John Tucker Must Die” ( Teen Comedy ): Singer Ashanti, “Grudge 2” actress Arielle Kebbel and TV star Sophia Bush from “One Tree Hill” play 3 gorgeous, popular girls from competing high school cliques who discover that they’ve each been dating the same hot jock (Jesse Metcalfe) and decide to band together to seek revenge. Brittany Snow co-stars as the bait. Shot in Vancouver and at Heritage Woods Secondary School in Port Moody BC.

Who would’ve guessed that the threat of nuclear annihilation gets people hot ‘n bothered? At least it seems to be true in South Korea, where condom manufacturers report that sales skyrocketed immediately after North Korea carried out its nuclear test. The country’s ‘Love Motels’ have also seen a sharp rise in business and the online reservations are booked solid for the next month. The head of Korea’s Institute for Sex Education suggests that people tend to have the urge to procreate in times of extreme situations. The release of stress, he says, is one of the top reasons why sex is good for the body. (It’s also less fattening than beer or chocolate.)

PLAYING LEAD SHIRT:
Scientists at Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific & Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) in Canberra have developed the ‘Wearable Instrument Shirt’, a new T-shirt that turns the fake strumming of air guitar into actual music. The hi-tech tee has motion sensors built into its elbows that pick up the wearer’s arm motions and relay them wirelessly to a computer which interprets them as guitar rifts. One arm is interpreted as picking chords while the other strums. The shirt is adaptable to both right and left-handed wannabe rock stars. Who knows what happens if you accidentally put it on inside-out. (Thank goodness these government researchers aren’t wasting their time on a cure for cancer or some other insignificant project.)

Astronomers at Russia’s Academy of Sciences have released an absolutely pointless doomsday warning about an asteroid which may … or may not … hit the Earth in the year 2035. Apparently we won’t know for sure for another 22 years. A spokesman says the possibility that the asteroid now orbiting the Sun will collide with Earth cannot be denied, but it will be 2028 before the exact danger level can be determined. (Hey, thanks for the penetrating analysis … wake us up when you know something!)

A DOG’S LIFE:
China is renowned for its 1-child policy to limit population growth but now authorities in Beijing say families can also only have … 1 dog. The campaign is the result of a rabies epidemic which killed 318 people in SEPTEMBER alone. Authorities are calling on pet owners to ‘create a harmonious society and be a civilized dog raiser’. Meantime, stray animals are being culled. (Only someone totally insensitive would suggest they’re being eaten.)

A group of math professors who began picking lottery numbers based on mathematical probability theory 4 years ago have won $13 million in a UK lottery. The team of 17 staff members from Bradford University devised a formula which used all 49 possible numbers in their selections. The idea was that if all the numbers were in use, there would be better odds of winning. It took a while, but apparently they were right!

POWER STANDARD:
The world’s most powerful production car has been unveiled by a British manufacturer. The ‘Bristol Fighter T’ boasts a 1,012 horsepower engine, a theoretical top speed of 270 mph and a price tag near $675,000. It will be hand-built at a Bristol factory and comes with an 8-liter, V10 engine to propel the car from 0-60 mph in less than 3.5 seconds. Only 20 will be built each year, meaning owners will belong to an elite group. Bristol Cars has been producing the ‘Fighter’ and ‘Fighter S’ since 2004. The new model is a response to a demand from consumers for even more power. (Unfortunately, a trip to the corner store will cost you 8-grand in fuel.)

Starbucks recently announced plans for over 30,000 new stores worldwide to add to the 12,440 they already operate. According to Launi Skinner, the company’s vice-president in charge of store development, the chain is practically forced to sell coffee on every corner because customers won’t walk far to get it. Even going to the other side of the street can be a barrier, Skinner claims. (Couldn’t they somehow rig it up to our plumbing?)
