Another Sheetload of Bull!
BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Family, friends and fans of Liam Payne gathered yesterday to pay tribute to the late star. His singer’s girlfriend Kate Cassidy and his former One Direction bandmates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan were among those in attendance to memorialize Payne — who died on Oct. 16 at age 31 — in a funeral service held in a 12th century church in the English countryside northwest of London. His ex, Girls Aloud singer Cheryl, with whom he shared 7-year-old son Bear Grey, was also in attendance, along with Payne’s friend James Corden and Simon Cowell, who helped launch One Direction’s career on “The X Factor” in 2010.

★ Viola Davis will be honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes in 2025. Davis earned her first Golden Globe in the supporting actress category for her role in Denzel Washington’s “Fences”, going on to win the SAG Award and the Oscar. The “How to Get Away With Murder” star is the most-nominated Black woman in Oscar history. An artist, activist, philanthropist and best-selling author, Davis is one of 27 people to earn industry EGOT status, having won an Oscar, Emmy, Grammy, and Tony Award. Davis will be recognized on the 82nd Golden Globes broadcast on Jan. 5.

★ The streaming quality during the Mike Tyson/Jake Paul fight was so bad, Netflix has been hit with a class-action lawsuit over it. TMZ says it has obtained court documents showing that a Ronald “Blue” Denton filed the suit in Florida on Monday, 3 days after he says he and thousands of others struggled to watch Netflix’s broadcast of the bout. He claims viewers were “faced with legendary problems, including: no access, streaming glitches, and buffering issues.” Denton is suing Netflix for breach of contract, among other things, and asking for unspecified damages. (How ‘bout a lawsuit about the quality of the FIGHT?)

★ Jay Leno has injured himself – again — and this time, he’s got a broken wrist and an eyepatch to prove it. After lighting his face on fire and breaking several bones in multiple car accidents, Leno explained in an interview how one side of his face ended up covered in deep purple bruises. According to the 74-year-old, he attempted to walk down a steep hill in order to get to a restaurant, when: “Boom. Yeah, I rolled down the hill. Hit my head on a rock, knocked me in the eye.” Raising the patch, he revealed a painful looking black eye that could barely open. Leno still managed to perform that night, and said “It’s not that big a deal”.

★ Keanu Reeves’ iconic bullet-dodging backbend in “The Matrix” has topped a poll of the best cinematic stunts of all time. 2,000 film buffs crowned ‘Neo’s’ impressive technique seen in the 1999 action sci-fi blockbuster the winner — topping Tom Cruise’s death-defying performance hanging from a plane in 2015’s “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation”. The breathtaking car skydive sequence from “Fast and Furious 7” came third. In 4th and 5th, respectively were stunts in the movies “Ben-Hur” and “Skyfall.”

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Sabrina Carpenter — The New York priest who allowed her to film her ‘Feather’ video in his church has been stripped of his duties, after an investigation revealed other instances of mismanagement. He had been criticized last year after the video was released, showing her arriving at the church in a pink hearse and dancing in front of the altar in a short black dress and veil.
• Shaboozey — is creeping up on the all-time record for the longest-running #1 in Billboard Hot 100 chart history. ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’ has just scored its 18th week at the top, and is just one week away from tying the all-time leader: ‘Old Town Road’ by Lil Nas X ft. Billy Ray Cyrus.
• Madonna – wrote on IG that she’s “struggling” with “producers and agents” who are concerned with the length of her self-directed biopic, set to star Julia Garner. In response, she said she has resolved to be “even more fearless”, and is considering making it into a miniseries instead. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/m5ht49n
• R.E.M. – The members of the group shared that they “could not be more honored, more flattered, more humbled” that soul legend and 11-time Grammy winner Al Green has recorded a cover of their 1992 hit ‘Everybody Hurts’. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5axnsea9

The film, which does not yet have a release date, will include new interviews with surviving members Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie, plus with new and archival interviews with the late Christine McVie.
• Bobby Helms – The ‘Jingle Bell Rock’ singer’s “A Bobby Helms Christmas”, released in Oct., has entered Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart at #50. • Past Malone – has announced his biggest-ever headlining tour. “The Big Ass Stadium Tour” will bring his “massive production to 25 stadiums across the United States and Canada”. SHOOTING THE BULL
SEASONAL AFECTIVE INSIDER:
Frankly, it can be depressing at this time of year, when it seems like you’re spending all the hours of daylight at work. And while many of us are quick to chalk up our feelings of lethargy and carb-craving to Seasonal Affective Disorder, or (SAD), a mental health expert is saying “Not so fast.” For starters, Kari Lebowitz, a “winter psychology mindset” expert, wants to remind people that SAD isn’t something you can just self-diagnose, and use as a “shield” to avoid living a normal life for the next 3 or 4 or 5 months. According to her, people fall into 2 categories: those genuinely feel down in the winter, with worse mood in response to the lack of daylight; “and those who are simply having a very normal, healthy response to a change in daylight, but don’t view it that way.” She points out that feeling tired and anti-social, or at least less social than might during summer, is a very normal response to the “10-hour difference in the amount of daylight between the summer solstice and the winter solstice.” She says it is “not normal to expect to have the same energy, interests, and productivity year-round.” Her advice in dealing with the effects of less daylight at this time of year? “Slow down, rest more, [and] socialize in a low-key way”, and “be indulgent about staying in.”
(And eat lots and lots of comfort foods!)
(Me? I just count down to Dec 22, when the days start getting longer. Sure, that’s the start of winter, but more daylight means it’s also the first sign of spring. Hey, ya gotta have hope!)

FIVE-SCORE AND THEN SOME:
Researchers say they have calculated the maximum lifespan for humans. Statisticians at Erasmus University in the Netherlands studied data from 75,000 people who have died in the last 30 years, and determined that for females, the maximum lifespan is 115.7 years. For men, it is 114.1 years. One of the lead researchers, Professor John Einmahl, noted that they found that while people are living longer these days, the very oldest among us “have not gotten older over the last 30 years”, which indicates “there is certainly some kind of a wall here.” The findings correlate with a study carried out in the US, where a researchers found that human lifespan is unlikely to ever increase beyond 115. The verified oldest person ever, France’s Jeanne Calment, lived 122 years and 164 days.
(…but she didn’t look a day over Keith Richards!)
(So, what they’re telling me is that if I take very good care of myself, and I’m very lucky, I may someday actually get through my entire Netflix watch list?)

NOT “RUSSIAN” TO FILL THE POSITION:
A 7-year-old boy has been offered a job by an IT firm – in management, no less — because he is so good at coding. BBC reports that the Russian software company PRO32 sent the boy, named ‘Sergey’ a written job offer, inviting him to fill the position of head of corporate training, as soon as he is old enough to take up paid employment. Sergey, who is from the Russian city of St. Petersburg, has built a name for himself, uploading videos that explain how to write software, since he was just 5. Under Russian law, Sergey is not be able to accept any paid role until he is 14, but the company’s chief executive Igor Mandik has spoken to Sergey’s parents about finding ways to collaborate in the meantime. Mandik said that young Sergey’s videos not only show remarkable developer skills, but “equally unique” skills in teaching, and called him “kind of a Mozart.”
(…so in 7 years when your computer is hacked by a guy named ‘Sergey’, you’ll at least know who it is!)
(I was exactly the same at that age. And by that, I mean that I was 7, too!)

HOW TO TELL IF IT’S A COLD, FLU, OR ALLERGIES:
A few tips from health experts ….
✓ Colds and flu are viral infections that usually bring fever, aches, and fatigue.
✓ Allergies do not come with a fever.
✓ If you’re sneezing and blowing your nose endlessly, it could be a cold or allergies, but a cold will leave after a week-to-10 days. Allergies linger.
✓ Allergies are not accompanied by pains, upset stomach, or exhaustion like the flu.
✓ Symptoms for allergies include ‘allergy shiners’, where blood vessels under eyes dilate, creating dark circles; and the ‘allergy salute’, whereby people constantly rub their nose.
✓ For colds, well, grandma was right. Chicken soup really is a good remedy, though doctors are not completely sure why. (It’s the ‘extra love’ she puts in it.)

DID YOU KNOW?
How about some syrup in your coffee? New research says it might be time to start pouring maple syrup on a lot more things than just pancakes. A team from Laval University in Quebec (of course!) found that replacing just 2 tablespoons of refined sugar with pure maple syrup could significantly reduce several key risk factors for heart disease and diabetes. Maple Syrup contains over 100 natural compounds, including polyphenols, that are known to prevent disease, in part through their anti-inflammatory effects. In addition, the sweet stuff was found to contain a number of healthy nutrients, and provide 4 major health benefits: better blood sugar control, lower blood pressure, reduced abdominal fat, and improved gut health. (Better gut health? Not the way I use that stuff!)
