Sheeters Always Prosper!
BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Social media is reacting pretty much the way you’d expect after coming to the realization that Taylor Lautner’s fiancée will pretty much share the same name as the actor after they get married. The “Twilight” star proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Tay Dome, last week after 3 years of dating. If she decides to take the actor’s last name, Tay Dome will become Tay Lautner, who will be married to Taylor Lautner. On Twitter, one user wrote: “This is what we used to joke about when him and Taylor Swift were dating and now he’s actually getting married to a Taylor.” A second joked: “First child name options: Taylor (if boy) Taylor (if girl).”

★ Gavan O’Herlihy, who played ‘Chuck Cunningham’ “Happy Days,” has died. He was 70. Chuck, the older brother of ‘Richie’ and ‘Joanie’, appeared in 9 episodes of Season 1. By Season 2, the part was recast to be played by Randolph Roberts, but after 2 episodes, Chuck disappeared and was never heard from again. His vanishing spawned the phrase “Chuck Cunningham Syndrome,” used when a character is written out of a show without explanation. In the real world, the Chuck character was cut in response to the popularity of ‘Fonzie’ (Henry Winkler), who took on the role of the unofficial big brother to Richie and his friends.

★ Summer Zervos, the former “Apprentice” contestant who accused Donald Trump of sexual assault and has been trying to sue him for defamation since 2017, abruptly dropped her lawsuit on Friday. The lawsuit ends without any compensation or apology from Trump. In 2016 she accused him of sexually assaulting her twice in 2007, first during a meeting in New York and another time in Beverly Hills. Trump denied any wrongdoing and at a rally in 2016, he called accusations by Zervos and other women “total fiction” and “all false stuff.”

★ Dakota Johnson opened up about her grandmother Tippi Hedren’s experiences working in Hollywood. In a recent podcast, she said Hedren, the mother of actress Melanie Griffith — “was encouraging” of her when it came to pursuing an acting career despite the abuse she endured in the industry. Quote: “[Alfred] Hitchcock ruined her career because she didn’t want to sleep with him, and he terrorized her. He was never held accountable.” Hedren worked with the director in the 1963 film “The Birds” as well as 1964’s “Marnie”. In her 2016 memoir “Tippi”, Hedren, who is now 91, claimed she was sexually assaulted by Hitchcock several times during the making of both films.

• ABBA — have scored their 10th UK #1 album with “Voyage”. Their first studio album in 40 years displaced Ed Sheeran’s “=” at the top, and landed the band their 10th chart topper. This marks ABBA’s 58th total week as UK #1, only The Beatles and Elvis have spent more weeks at the top.
• The Who — Roger Daltrey described the Rolling Stones as a “mediocre pub band” in an interview. In conversation with the Coda Collection, said: “Mick Jagger, you’ve got to take your hat off to him. He’s the number one rock ‘n’ roll performer. But…if you heard that music coming out of a pub some night, you’d think, ‘Well, that’s a mediocre pub band!'”

Ah, that’s T-Roy, man (playing a prank).”
SHOOTING THE BULL
DON’T ASK MEOW:
It’s probably not a surprise, but it is entirely possible that your cat is keeping tabs on your whereabouts. A new study out of Japan found that a stationary cat can mentally map its owner’s location using audio cues — specifically, the owner’s voice. Kyoto University researchers set up areas in a home and at a cat café to see how cats responded to their owners’ voices without visual cues. They piped voices through speakers, and found cats reacted with surprise, through behaviors like ear and head movements, when their owners’ voices seemed to “teleport” across the room. The conclusion is that cats have good spatial cognition, meaning they can mentally picture where others are, through sounds.
(Of COURSE cats know where you are and what you are doing. They just don’t care!)
(Sure, she may be tracking your whereabouts, but it’s not like she’s going to do anything about it. Because, you know, curiosity…)

MEETING OF THE MINDS:
The annual Global Grad Show in Dubai is billed as the world’s most diverse gathering of graduate design projects, with the aim of providing solutions to social and environmental issues. Some highlights of this year’s event included ‘Aseedbot’, a solar-powered robot designed to sow seeds in the desert. It works on solar power, recharging during the day and moving on its 3D-printed legs by night, depositing seeds that could help introduce plant life into new areas. Another new invention involves a way of catching microplastics before they go out with the laundry water. Clothing often contains plastic microfibers, which are shed during washing and can end up in rivers and oceans. The solution? A filter fitted to the front of the washing machine, which filters water on the way out, preventing microplastics from entering the wastewater system.
(Yet, somehow, we still allow factories to dump their waste directly into the water?)
(What invention do we need that nobody has come up with yet?)

NEW GOOD NEWS:
➢ An injection of a newly-developed drug has been shown to reverse paralysis in mice with severe spinal cord injuries. It promotes the regeneration of severed nerves and the repair of other vital tissues, allowing the rodents to regain the ability to walk within 4 weeks. The scientists, from Northwestern University, say they plan to go “straight to the FDA to start the process of getting this new therapy approved for use in human patients, who currently have very few treatment options.”
➢ Instead of getting the latest video game system or meeting a celeb, a 13-year-old diagnosed with a life-threatening illness used his Make-A-Wish opportunity to help the homeless in his community. Abraham Olagbegi of Jackson, Mississippi was diagnosed with the blood condition aplastic anemia in 2020 and later underwent a bone marrow transplant, and found out he qualified to have a dream fulfilled through Make-A-Wish. With help from the foundation, Abraham fed about 80 people around Jackson in September. Not only that, but Make-A-Wish plans to help Abraham feed the homeless in Jackson once per month until August 2022. And Abraham did receive a few gifts from Make-A-Wish, including a new laptop and microphone to help him start a YouTube channel. (I’m not tearing up – YOU’RE tearing up!)

MYTHBUSTING:
(“Facts” that just ain’t…)
✗ Many ships and planes have ‘mysteriously’ vanished in the Bermuda Triangle: Not significantly more than any other well-traveled waterways. The disappearances can be linked to storms, issues with the ships/planes, and likely human error.
✗ Stock up on vitamin C during cold and flu season: Vitamin C supplements have little to no effect on preventing or shortening a cold — and any vitamin C you take after the cold begins will not help shorten it.
✗ Bathe a “skunked” dog in tomato juice: Tomato juice does nothing to counteract the smell, and it is as ineffective as using any other strongly scented item.
✗ When cut in half, worms become two worms: The half with the head may be able to grow back a tail and survive, but the half with the tail can’t grow a new head, and will die. (Exception: Flatworms, which CAN regenerate into 2 worms!)
✗ There are “left brain” and “right brain” people: Abilities are not actually separated in this way. Most cognitive skills, like math, and language (though dominant on the left), rely on both sides of the brain.

DID YOU KNOW?
Going to sleep between 10 and 11pm may protect your heart. The time you go to bed may affect your risk for heart disease, according to a report published in the European Heart Journal. Data from more than 88,000 adults over 6 years was analyzed, showing a 12% percent greater risk for heart disease among those who dropped off between 11-11:59 p.m., and a 25% higher risk among people who fell asleep at midnight or later. Falling asleep earlier than 10 p.m. was associated with a 24% increase in risk. (So, I should set an alarm to make sure I remember to go to sleep before 11?)
