★ “Five Nights at Freddy’s” had no trouble staying atop the domestic box office, despite projecting a big drop from its hefty Halloween weekend opening. It earned an estimated $17.8 million in its second weekend, a tumble of 78% from its $80 million debut. It is the beneficiary of an overall quiet moviegoing weekend otherwise. Of the 3 new releases “Priscilla”, the Meg Ryan-directed rom-com “What Happens Later” and “The Marsh King’s Daughter”, only “Priscilla” is projected to nab a spot in the top 5. Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour” held on to the #2 spot with a take of about $12 million.

She alleges that Schwarzenegger’s “negligent” driving caused the collision. According to her lawsuit, Schwarzenegger was driving “with excessive speed and [failing] to keep a proper lookout” on San Vicente Boulevard in LA. She claims the collision caused her “severe injuries” which are “permanent”, and is seeking damages exceeding $25,000. At the time of the incident, police sources told TMZ: “the woman made a left turn in front of Arnold before he had a chance to hit his brakes and he was not going very fast at all”.

SHOOTING THE BULL

THE ANGER ANGLE:
You mad, bro? It might be a good thing, if you’ve got some challenging assignments ahead of you today. Researchers have found that getting angry can be a powerful motivator, leading to better results when tackling tricky tasks. A team at Texas A&M University conducted experiments involving more than 1,000 people to explore the impact of anger on people in various circumstances. They found that those who were angry did better in challenges than those in other emotional states. The researchers say one explanation could be down to a link between anger and greater persistence. They found that those who were angry spent more time on difficult tests. Another contributing factor: Test results also suggested that being angry increased the degree to which participants cheated.
(This explains so much about how every boss I’ve ever had – got to be boss!)
(So much for the power of positive thinking?)

THE WORD ON PASSWORDS:
If you’re looking for a stronger password (and who hasn’t been asked to create a stronger password?), try using emojis. That the advice from a computer security expert. It turns out that on a computer, emojis are considered a symbol, which means you are able to incorporate them into your passwords, making them more secure when used alongside letters and numbers. Stan Kaminsky, with the cybersecurity giant Kaspersky, explains: “When intruders try to brute-force a password containing letters, numbers and punctuation marks, there are fewer than a hundred variations for each symbol they need to pick. But there are more than 3,600…emojis…so adding one to your password forces hackers to go through around 3,700 variants per symbol.” He said that a password with 5 emojis is equivalent to a traditional password with only 9 characters. Seven emojis would be equal to using 13 “regular characters.”
(Is this a bad time to admit that I have no idea how to type an emoji on my keyboard?)
(The only problem with using emojis in my passwords is that I also write mine on a handy ‘cheat sheet’. And I’m terrible at drawing!)

NEW GOOD NEWS:

➢ After selling his company for 8 figures, a Canadian entrepreneur is using his profit to build a community of tiny homes for those who need it most. In Fredericton New Brunswick, Marcal LeBrun’s factory is now churning out 1 tiny home every 4 days, in a bid to create the 12 Neighbours gated community of 99 homes, plus an enterprise center to give the homeless a real second chance. He invested $4 million dollars of his own money on the project, and received government funding for the rest of the project, which is 75% complete. Lebrun says that he used to complain that “something needed to be done” about the city’s homelessness problem, so he went ahead and did it.
➢ A group of teenagers who came across an empty candy bucket on Halloween decided to refill it with their own candy, to ensure little kids could have some too. Going viral on social media, the act of generosity was recorded by the house owner’s Ring camera, capturing the irony of the 3 young women, dressed as bald businessmen, donating their own candy and inviting other trick-or-treaters to follow suit. Homeowner Jennifer Wyckoff of Redmond, Oregon, left a candy bucket outside with a note saying: “Sorry we missed you, be kind and only take a few pieces.” Viewing the camera footage, she says she “saw them come up to the house, there was no candy there. They said ‘Oh, let’s donate some to the bowl.’ There were some other kids walking up and they told them ‘Hey, come give some candy to this bowl, there’s none left’”. (The most amazing part? It WASN’T candy corn that they decided to give away!) LINK: https://tinyurl.com/ya95d2vx

EFFECTIVE HELP FOR SEASONAL AFFECTIVE DISORDER:
With the end of Daylight Saving Time, the resulting lack of sunlight at the end of the day, plus colder weather and less time outdoors, can have an impact on our mental well-being. Here are some strategies for boosting mood and managing the winter blues…
☞ Light therapy: A light therapy box that emits bright, full-spectrum light, mimicking natural sunlight. This can help alleviate some of the symptoms associated with the winter blues and SAD. (I tend to lean more toward light BEER therapy, but that’s just me…)
☞ Exercise: Regular physical activity, even if it’s indoors, can improve mood and energy levels. Consider indoor activities like yoga, dancing, or using exercise equipment. (What if exercising makes me miserable?)
☞ Keep to a sleep schedule: Regular, adequate and high-quality sleep can have a positive impact on mood.
☞ Watch your diet: Eat a well-balanced diet with a focus on whole, nutritious foods. And be mindful of sugar and carb intake, which can lead to energy crashes.
☞ Be social: Stay in touch with loved ones, and engage in activities with others, even if it means doing so virtually. (After all, Christmas is coming, and you don’t want to be left off anyone’s gift list!)
☞ Set goals and have structure: Establish achievable daily goals and maintain a routine. This can provide a sense of purpose and accomplishment.
☞ Practice mindfulness and relaxation: Meditation and relaxation techniques help manage stress and anxiety.
☞ Spend time outdoors: Get outside at some point during daylight hours. Even on cloudy days, exposure to natural light can be beneficial.
☞ Engage in self-care: Do things you enjoy, like reading, taking warm baths or pampering yourself in other ways.
☞ Practice gratitude: Keep a gratitude journal to focus on the positive aspects of life and cultivate a more optimistic outlook.
(What’s YOUR secret to staying happy during the long, cold months of winter?)

DID YOU KNOW?
Lazy tourists visiting scenic mountain spots in China’s Zhejiang Province can now skip the climb altogether — and ride giant escalators hundreds of meters long, to reach the best view spots. Tour operators have installed massive escalators on mountains, making scenic spots that were once only accessible by hiking on precarious trails now available to anyone.
