Here’s More Bull Roar!
BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ In the wake of Alex Trebek’s passing on Sunday, Sony Pictures Television has announced that his final episode of “Jeopardy!” will air on Christmas Day. Trebek’s last episodes were taped on October 29, 10 days prior to his death after a long battle with advanced pancreatic cancer. The show’s producers are not announcing plans for a new host at this time.

★ Prolific showrunner Ryan Murphy joked on Twitter that his next limited series could be about the Trump family. Murphy tweeted: “I am thrilled to announce my new limited series “JAIL”. Every episode of this six-episode joy ride will feature members of the Trump crime family as one by one they are investigated, found guilty and then are forced to pay for their crimes against America and humanity in general.” He included a mocked-up promotional image with the tagline: “One family. Six episodes. Countless charges.”

★ Norm Crosby, the comedian known as the “Master of Malaprop” has died. The actor-writer, who also appeared in “Grown Ups 2”, “Cougar Club” and “Alright Already”, was 93. He made ‘malaprop’, which is the intentional misuse of a similar sounding word for comedy, his signature move. From his various appearances in the stand-up scene, Crosby expanded the reach of his career, landing various spots on notable talk shows throughout the 60’s.

★ Many members of the royal family joined Queen Elizabeth to pay their respects to fallen servicemen and women during Remembrance Sunday, but Prince Harry’s request to have a wreath of poppies laid at the Cenotaph was turned down. That’s according to The Sunday Times, which says it marks the latest sign of Harry and wife Meghan Markle’s estrangement from the royal family since stepping down from royal duties. The news outlet reported that “The Duke of Sussex was refused permission for a wreath to be laid…on his behalf …on the grounds that he is no longer representing the monarchy.”

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Niall Horan – In an interview, he took the British government to task for ignoring those who earn a living via live music now that the concert industry has ground to a halt. While he certainly has experienced a drop in income, he says his concern lies with the 35 members of his touring crew. He played a livestreamed concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall on Sat. for their benefit.
• Adele — has returned to London to work on new music. A source says she wants to lay low (which is easy for her these days, with a mask and the fact that “people don’t recognize her like they used to”). Now, she’s “totally focused…on getting each track just right.”
• Ariana Grande – Has scored her 5th #1 album on the Billboard 200 chart (and 3rd in less than 2 years) as her latest, “Positions”, has debuted at the top. It launched with 174,000 equivalent album units in the US.
• The Notorious B.I.G. – His son CJ Wallace was inspired to remix his father’s music after hearing Miley Cyrus’ ‘Party In The USA’ remixed with a Biggie tune. Wallace has released ‘Ready to Dance’, a collection celebrating the relationship between house and dance music by reimagining the music of The Notorious B.I.G in a new light.
• AC/DC – Angus Young says he has “boxes full of” song ideas which he put together with his late brother, guitarist Malcolm Young, who died in 2017. And he says he’ll continue making music, because “I’ve been doing this most of my life, since I was in my teens. So it’s very hard to think of something other than that…”
• Tom Petty – His family said they were “touched” that US president-elect Biden and running mate Kamala Harris used the hit ‘I Won’t Back Down’ at their victory speech Saturday night. Petty’s family filed a cease and desist notice to the Trump campaign in June after the same song was played at a campaign rally in Tulsa, OK.
• Garth Brooks – Although he has already revealed that both his wife Trisha Yearwood and Blake Shelton will appear on his new album “Fun”, there’s another surprise guest. Who is it? All Brooks will say is that the word ‘legend’ “doesn’t even start to cover this one.” Fun is due out Nov. 20.
• Kip Moore – even though his latest album “Wild World” arrived on May 29, meaning he’s been unable to tour behind it, he prefers to look on the positive side. He says the COVID-19 restrictions provided him with some artistic inspiration — and he has written and recorded, at least preliminarily, another whole album’s worth of material.
• Blake Shelton – joins Shenandoah on their new song ‘Then a Girl Walks In’. It’s part of the classic country band’s duets album “Every Road”, out this Friday. Other artists making appearances include the Zac Brown Band, Luke Bryan, Ashley McBryde, Lady A, Dierks Bentley and Brad Paisley.
USE ZINC FOR STINK:
Apparently 2020 won’t go down in history as being ALL bad. Why? Scientists may have developed a new way to solve one of society’s smelliest problems: stinky feet. Swiss researchers say that wearing socks coated in zinc oxide nanoparticles can prevent foot odor and ‘pitted keratolysis’, which is a bacterial infection that leads to smelly feet. In a study involving 148 cadets at the Thai Naval Rating School, those wearing zinc-coated socks reported much fewer foul odors coming from their feet than other soldiers. The researchers say these new socks could provide a new primary prevention option for both military personnel and civilians who are susceptible to “these embarrassing and unpleasant conditions.”
(Challenge accepted!)
(I’ll believe it when it’s tested on teenagers!)
(Perfect. Now I just need to go to the hardware store and pick up a box of zinc oxide nanoparticles…)

ABOUT FACE:
Like the medical experts keep telling us, as we find out more, the science changes. And THIS mask study will certainly surprise some people. Wearing a mask during a tough workout doesn’t harm your performance, according to researchers from the University of Saskatchewan. Their experiment indicates “that people can wear face masks during intense exercise with no detrimental effects on performance and minimal impact on blood and muscle oxygenation.” That’s especially important as a way of encouraging mask use as fitness centers open up during the pandemic because respiratory droplets can be propelled further with heavy breathing during vigorous exercise.
(Or during Christmas shopping!)
(It’s Canadian study. Are we sure they weren’t wearing goalie masks?)
(Should I be worried, then, that I get short of breath just walking from my car to a store? And that’s WITHOUT a mask!)

iPHONEY:
The new iPhone 12 was only announced a few weeks ago, but if the price is a bit steep for you, here’s a great Plan B. Chinese media are reporting on a popular accessory that iPhone fans are going crazy for these days — a case that makes older Apple smartphones, like the iPhone X or 11, look exactly like the yet-to-be-released iPhone 12. How? It actually replaces the exterior of your device to create the illusion that you own an iPhone 12. The new case was available in electronics stores just days after the iPhone 12’s official announcement for about $60. Yes, it’s a pretty hefty price to pay for a smartphone case, but it’s a SMALL price to pay for those who are concerned about impressing their friends or online followers.
(And as is often the case for Apple customers, it’s all about the flex!)
(So if you’ve recently purchased a slightly-used iPhone 12, I’d have a closer look…)
(I’m pretty sure the most popular color is “green – with envy”.)

DUBIOUS DISTINCTIONS:

☞ My grandpa was married to Johnny Depp’s mom for roughly a year when Johnny was 16. my grandpa hated him forever for running up his phone bill one month and never paying him back.
☞ Alec Baldwin held the door open for me as I walked into a steakhouse in Boston about 20 years ago.
☞ I once refused to share a lift with Margaret Thatcher.

DID YOU KNOW?
Although you might enjoy dunking them in your drink now, you may be surprised to learn that digestive biscuits (cookies) were actually invented to keep flatulence at bay. “The Biscuit: The History of a Very British Indulgence” by Lizzie Collingham claims digestives were created to aid in digestion and to help combat stomach gas — or ‘windy colic’ — if you want to sound a bit posher. But before you start calling them health food, remember that back then they weren’t covered in chocolate or packed full of as much sugar as they are now.

• “Forget-Me-Not Day”, a day for remembering those whose lives have touched us in some way. You’re encouraged to think of people who had an impact on your life and the way in which they changed it. (Then go see a lawyer and file charges.)
• “Sesame Street Day”, saluting the 1969 debut of the landmark children’s TV show on PBS-TV. It was the first preschool educational TV show to base its contents on laboratory research. (Teaching kids while they play and have fun … what a concept!)
• “World Science Day for Peace & Development, established by UNESCO in 2001.
• “Accounting Day”, an annual observance to promote the profession and provide an opportunity for networking among accountants in public practice, industry, and government. (Sounds exciting.)
• “Area Code Day”, area codes were introduced in the 1940’s to solve the issue of not enough phone numbers to go around. Initially, densely populated regions were assigned area codes with lower numbers at the beginning and end. Why? It was determined that those in urban areas should be able to dial faster. And how do you make rotary phones dial faster? By using lower numbers, which had a shorter “pull time”.
