Here’s More Bull Roar!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
After only 2 episodes, AMC has already ordered up a 2nd season of “The Walking Dead” (seems the zombie/vampire fad isn’t over yet) . . . For the 2nd year in-a-row 2009 Oscars emcee Hugh Jackman has turned down an offer to host the “Academy Awards” (February 27th), this time because it purportedly conflicts with the shooting schedule for his movie “X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2” (BS translation: A helluva lot of effort for little money and everyone takes potshots at your performance) . . . Brit actress Rachel Weisz (“The Mummy”) has split from director-fiancé Darren Aronofsky (“The Wrestler”) after 8 years together (guess their planned “Jackie O” pic just got deep-sixed as well) . . . “Girls Gone Wild” honcho Joe Francis has actually gotten hitched to one Christina McLarty, though it wasn’t an actual wedding per se, just a civil ceremony at his estate in Punta Mita, Mexico (he likely had her sign a waiver before filming the honeymoon) . . . Actor Charlie Sheen tells “Extra!” his infamous recent NYC hotel adventure was just ‘one bad night’ and he’s fine with the aftermath, even though his $150,000-watch has gone missing (BS translation: I can’t believe I’m not in jail!) . . . Buzz out of NBC-TV suggests that current “Today” co-host Meredith Vieira is ready to walk away from the show when her contract expires next year and “CBS Evening News” anchor Katie Couric is a possible replacement (wouldn’t that be the ‘down’ escalator?) . . . And soon-to-be-18 singer/actress Miley Cyrus has revealed a new under-‘lung’ tattoo that reads “Just Breathe”, apparently a tribute to a friend who died of cystic fibrosis (gee, hope none of her friends gets dysentery).

TODAY’S SHOW BIZ SKED:
• “CMA Awards” (ABC) – For the 3rd year in-a-row, Brad Paisley & Carrie Underwood host the Country Music Association honors (the 44th annual), live from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville TN. A few highlights …
– Miranda Lambert leads nominations with 9 (see ‘Today’s Celebirthdays’).
– Performers include Alan Jackson w/Zac Brown Band, Blake Shelton, Brad Paisley, Dierks Bentley, George Strait, Jason Aldean w/Kelly Clarkson, Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney, Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert w/Sheryl Crow, Rascal Flatts, Reba McEntire, Sugarland, and Taylor Swift.
– Instead of a red carpet leading into the venue there’ll be a black carpet, because the gala is sponsored by Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey, one of the state’s most famous products.

• “Conan O’Brien Show” (TBS/CTV) – Fistful of Mercy (“As I Call You Down”).
• “Ellen DeGeneres Show” (syndicated/A Channel) – Queen Latifah (“Persona”).
• “Good Morning America” (ABC) – Dierks Bentley (“Up On the Ridge”).
• “Jimmy Kimmel Live” (ABC/CityTV) – Blake Shelton (“Loaded: The Best of Blake Shelton”).
• “Last Call With Carson Daly” (NBC) – Alberta Cross (“Broken Side of Time”).
• “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” (NBC/A Channel) – Jonsi (“Go”).
• “Late Show With David Letterman” (CBS/Omni) – Snoop Dogg (“Doggystyle 2: The Doggumentary”, coming in 2011).
• “Soul Train Awards” (Atlanta GA) – Alicia Keys and Usher lead nominations with 4 apiece. Other multiple nominees include Drake, Nicki Minaj, Janelle Monae, and Sade. Performers include Cee-Lo, Erykah Badu, Freddie Jackson, and R Kelly. The show is being taped for airing on BET/Centric on November 28th.
• “Tonight Show With Jay Leno” (NBC/A Channel) – Old 97’s (“The Grande Theatre, Volume One”).

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Bon Jovi – Tonight their NYC concert streams live on YouTube at 8 pm ET. Fans were given the chance to help pick the set-list online, using the website’s new ‘Moderator’ tool.
• Christina Aguilera – She’s apparently trying to move on from the collapse of her marriage to Jordan Bratman by quietly seeing Matthew D Rutler, a set assistant from her upcoming movie “Burlesque”. (A ‘set assistant’? Honey, that’s below the line!)
• The Doors – Florida Governor Charlie Crist is considering granting Jim Morrison a posthumous pardon to clear his name over indecent exposure charges dating back to a 1969 Miami concert. The rocker was appealing the sentence up until his death from a heart attack in 1971.
• Kanye West – He took over the intercom on a recent flight from Minneapolis to NYC and performed an impromptu 6-mile-high concert, blasting out his hits “Good Life” and “Gold Digger”. (Are we in need of attention … all the time?)
• Michael Jackson – Sony Music is vehemently denying the vocals on the previously unreleased track “Breaking News” are fake, as some of the Jackson family have indicated. It’s claimed the song was recorded in New Jersey in 2007. It will be included on the new posthumous album, “Michael”, to be released December 14th.
• Queen – After nearly 40 years with EMI, they’ll join the Island Records label starting January 1st. Plans are underway to release re-mastered versions of their 15 albums in 2011.
• Shania Twain – Rumors are flying she’s ‘very close to signing a deal’ for a long-term show at the Caesar’s Palace Colosseum in Las Vegas. Perez Hilton is reporting that Shania would rotate with other headliners but the show would be a permanent one. Celine Dion returns to the Colosseum to kick off another residency in March.
• Usher – Tonight his worldwide “OMG” tour begins in Seattle WA. The trek, which features extensive choreography and video-screen content, is now scheduled to run through late March.

TODAY’S MOVIE OPENING:
“Morning Glory” ( PG-13 Comedy ): Rachel McAdams plays the ambitious producer of a struggling morning TV talk show who recruits a broadcasting dinosaur (Harrison Ford) to turn things around, but he ends up clashing with the program’s current anchor (Diane Keaton). Co-stars 50 Cent, Jeff Goldblum, Ty Burrell (“Modern Family”).

THE LAZY PERSON’S GUIDE TO BEING ECO-FRIENDLY:
Think you don’t have time to be green? Here are a few small things you can do that have a big impact and take hardly any effort …
• Turn the Washing Machine Knob – 90% of the energy used to wash clothes goes to heating the water, so the simple solution is … wash your clothes in cold water.
• Buy Local Produce – An Iowa State University report found apples in a supermarket that had travelled 1,726 miles to get there. A local apple, on the other hand, travels about 61 miles.
• Stay Eco-Clean With Plant-Based Products – Typical soaps, including hand soap, dishwashing soap and laundry detergent, are petroleum based. They can also contain unhealthy chemicals.
• Think Before You Print – And if you insist on putting something to paper, then take a minute to set your printer to print double-sided, thereby reducing your paper usage by 50%.
• Slow Down & Drive Decently – By driving aggressively (speeding, rapid acceleration, frequent braking), you lower your gas mileage by up to 33%. Driving a hybrid aggressively can be even less efficient than a gas-powered car, as demonstrated on the Brit TV show “Top Gear”.
• Bank & Pay Bills Online – Do you really need a paper copy of every deposit slip, withdrawal slip, and statement? Virtually all banks are now offering paperless options and some are also offering debit cards made from recycled plastic..

FROM THE BS POLL VAULT:
A statistical breakdown of life by the numbers …
• 81% of us say our favorite candy has chocolate in it.
• 70% of married couples say one thing they’re still satisfied with about their wedding is their ‘first song’.
• 60% of us own underwear that doesn’t fit.
• 35% of married guys say they always ask their wives for permission before adjusting the thermostat.
• 17% of employees think that having an affair with the boss will lead to a promotion.
• 15% of us regularly have dessert when eating dinner at home.

AWFUL FIRSTS WITH YOUR NEW BABY:
There are fun firsts, such as the first time baby sleeps through the night and the first time your toddler takes a few steps. Then there are not so fun firsts, such as …
• Baby’s first blood test. They poke them in the foot with something that looks like a thumbtack.
• The first time your newborn son pees in your face while changing his diaper.
• Baby’s first cold. You feel miserable because baby feels miserable.
• The first bite while nursing. Teeth or no teeth it still really hurts!
• The first time they drool/spit-up/pee on a friend who doesn’t have children.
• The first cellphone assassination by dropping or drooling.
• The first time they poop in the bathtub.
• The first time you have to leave them with someone else, then the first time they cry because you left them with someone else.

NEW BS GIZMOS & GADGETS:
• German scientists at the Fraunhofer Institute have developed a bike helmet that makes a stink when it requires replacing. Micro-capsules of smelly oils are injected into the polypropylene forming the base of the helmet so that even the tiniest of cracks in the parts crucial to safety cause the capsules to release a horrific odor that will have you scrambling to find new headgear.

• In Japan, a new portable-garden vending machine made by Dentsu can grow a substantial amount of fresh vegetables … without sunlight. The “Chef’s Farm”, as it is called, contains 12 40-watt fluorescent bulbs and can produce 60 heads of lettuce at a time or 20,000 heads a year. It’s aimed at restaurants.

• A University of Arizona team has devised a system that can make a holographic display appear in another place, and it can be updated in near real-time. It’s thought the device will be useful to auto and aircraft manufacturers, who’ll be able to look at  3-D models of their designs and make changes as they go. There’s also the ‘Beam me up, Scotty’ possibility: Being able to send a moving 3-D representation of someone to any location.

BS WAYS TO BE HER HERO:
Wanna really impress a girl? A few tips …
• Forget the weights & protein shakes. She doesn’t need you to be perfect-looking, just not fat.
• Instead of a backseat DVD theater in your car, use the money to buy a nice pair of shoes.
• She doesn’t really care what the plan is … just have one.
• Candles. They are so cheap and they are so effective.
• When you give her a gift, include a card in which you write something nice.
• Get covered garbage cans for your kitchen & bath. They hide stuff she doesn’t want to know about.
• Short-sleeves are for golf only; sandals are for Jesus only.
• When she asks you to accompany her to a wedding or a family event, RSVP within 24 hours.
• You might not know what she wants you to get her for her birthday, but her friends do. Ask them.
• Wash your dishes. Pick up your clothes. Swiff. She’ll think you’re a responsible adult.

FOR THE RECORD:
With final pre-orders in the Americas hitting 2.8 million units and a further 1.7 million pre-orders across Europe, “Call of Duty: Black Ops” (released yesterday) has posted a final pre-order number identical to “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2” this time last year. With over 4.5 million pre-orders in total, “Black Ops” will undoubtedly be the most successful videogame title of 2010.
