Today’s “People” magazine special double issue selects actor Bradley Cooper as the ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ (the list of runners-up includes Liam Hemsworth, Justin Theroux, Chris Evans, Tim McGraw, and Ryan Gosling) . . . Justin Timberlake honored his date with a Marine combat instructor last Saturday and tonight his “Friends With Benefits” co-star Mila Kunis is scheduled to fulfill a similar YouTube invitation from Sgt Scott Moore at a Marine Corps ball in Greenville, North Carolina (in related news, Betty White’s just been asked out to her high school class’ 100th anniversary reunion) . . . Hard to believe after he ticked off seemingly everyone in show biz last year, but the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is bringing back Ricky Gervais to host the “Golden Globe Awards” on January 15th (truth be told, the guy manages to make a rather dull orgy of self-congratulation almost entertaining) . . . Jeffrey Leving, the attorney representing Justin Bieber’s purported baby momma, Mariah Yeater, has set the record straight by saying he has not stepped down as reported and is currently attempting to negotiate a private paternity test without a court order (could be the first time in human history a father turns out to be younger than his biological child) . . . And “American Idol” judge Randy Jackson is reportedly negotiating a deal to manage Mariah Carey’s career, according to “Hollywood Reporter” (first order of business will be finding her career).

• Mac Miller – According to Nielsen SoundScan, his “Blue Slide Park” album is the first independent debut to top the album charts in 15 years.
• Martina McBride – Saturday the country star plays a show in New Orleans, Louisiana for the 3,000-plus passengers aboard the Royal Caribbean cruise ship ‘Voyager Of the Seas’. The concert is a celebration of the cruise line’s return to the ‘Big Easy’.
• Taylor Swift – She’ll be profiled this Sunday on “60 Minutes” (CBS) as correspondent Lesley Stahl has a candid conversation with her at her Nashville condominium. The segment also includes concert and backstage footage from the recent “Speak Now World Tour”.
• Thompson Square – Saturday the country duo accompanies the annual ‘Santa Train’, which delivers some 15 tons of toys to disadvantaged families who live along the route from Shelby, Kentucky to Kingsport, Tennessee. The 2011 charity run will make 14 stops.
• Trace Adkins – According to a fan poll by “Country Weekly” magazine, he’s ‘Country Music’s Sexiest Man’. He’s on the cover of today’s edition.

• “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” ( PG-13 Fantasy Adventure ): Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Dakota Fanning all return for the first half of the final instalment. Even fans admit “Breaking Dawn” is the worst book of the lot, but the film is nevertheless tracking to set some box office records. “Part 2” will follow in November 2012.

GOOD NEWS, NICE GUYS:
It turns out nice guys can finish first … at least socially. According to a new study by Harvard University researcher David Rand, dynamic, complex social networks encourage members to be friendlier and more co-operative, with the possible payoff coming in an expanded social sphere. On the other hand, selfish behavior can lead to an individual being shunned from the group and left – literally – on his or her own. (Too bad this doesn’t seem to hold up in online social networks.)

SAY WHAT?
Even though age obviously plays a role in hearing loss, for those who’ve never known a life without personal music devices the real problem is environmental. Jacking music up too loud on iPods and going to loud concerts is having a big impact. In fact, 1-in-5 people over the age of 12 now has hearing loss in at least one ear. Dr Frank Lin of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine says the tricky thing about loud noise exposure is that most people don’t suffer the consequences until many years later, so are unaware they’re damaging hearing until it’s too late. Here’s a tip for you … any ringing or hollow sound in your ears is a bad sign. (Now’s a good time to invest in Miracle Ear stock!)
