Sheet Happens!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ TV Land has pulled the plug on its first original scripted comedy series, “Hot in Cleveland”, which premiered in 2010. The comedy stars Betty White, Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, and Wendy Malick. In a statement the channel says the currently-showing 6th season will be its last. The problem is most likely a slow sag in audience ratings over the past few years. Poor Betty White …. out of work at age 92!

★ This may be a test for something bigger: Gwyneth Paltrow has stepped up her lifestyle business enterprise by opening a pop-up shop in Dallas TX. The “Iron Man” star has been doling out self-help advice and shopping tips on her Goop website since 2008 and now she’s taken things a step further. ‘The Goop’ shop will remain open until December 14th. It stocks a variety of high-end designer brands, such as Calvin Klein Home, Monique Lhuillier, and Stella McCartney.

★ Convicted killer Charles Manson is set to wed behind bars. The 80-year-old has obtained a license to wed the 26-year-old woman who’s visited him for the past 7 years. Manson is serving a life sentence at California’s Corcoran State Prison for the 1969 murder of movie actress Sharon Tate and others. He and Afton Elaine Burton now have 90 days to wed under the terms of their license. They won’t get a chance to consummate their marriage in the near future as Manson, who has been denied parole a dozen times, doesn’t qualify for conjugal visits.

★ And actor Channing Tatum says there have been a lot of apologies on the set of his now-shooting sequel film “Magic Mike XXL”. The 34-year-old, who is producing and co-writing the movie as well as starring in the title role, reveals that dance rehearsals can get quite intimate. Quote: ”There are a lot of apologies. A lot of ‘I’m sorry that ran into your chin’ and ‘Let me take my thigh off your neck’.” “Magic Mike XXL” opens July 1, 2015.

• Ariana Grande – Organizers say she was a natural choice for the annual Victoria’s Secret lingerie show coming up in London. The 21-year-old has been confirmed as a performer and will also be modeling some of the collection. The show is slated for taping on December 2nd.
• Band-Aid 30 – Organizer Bob Geldof has greeted the news that the 30th anniversary version of “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” has already sold over 200,000 copies by suggesting that everyone who bought it buy it again. Proceeds go toward halting the spread of Ebola in West Africa. The track has become the fast-selling single of 2014 in the UK.
• Billy Joel – Tonight in Washington DC he becomes the 6th recipient of the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. Among those paying tribute: Boyz II Men, Gavin DeGraw, John Mellencamp, Josh Groban, Kevin Spacey, Leann Rimes, Natalie Maines, and Tony Bennett. The gala is being recorded and will air on PBS-TV January 2nd.
• Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band – Tonight in Saginaw MI they kick off their “Ride Out Tour 2014-15” in support of their 1st album in 8 years. The trek is currently scheduled to run through March 7th in Vancouver BC. J Geils Band is opening on select nights.
• Justin Bieber – His grandparents have just listed his childhood home in Stratford, Ontario for $279,000. According to TMZ, Justin’s room remains just as he left it, complete with wallpaper, bedding, and curtains emblazoned with the logo of his favorite team, Toronto Maple Leafs.
• Kesha – This week music producer Dr Luke has filed a request for dismissal of the lawsuit she brought against him in October, accusing him of years of sexual, physical, verbal, and emotional abuse after he signed her at age 18. The producer promptly filed a countersuit, claiming she’s just trying to extort him in order to break free from her contract.
• One Direction – Zayn Malik is angry and upset over speculation he has a drug problem. He was AWOL Monday morning when 1-D performed live on NBC-TV from Universal Studios Florida. For no apparent reason, “Today” host Matt Lauer asked it was due to substance abuse issues. The group claims the problem was just a stomach bug.
• Survivor – Frank Sullivan III & James Peterik from the 1980s group are embroiled in a legal tussle with Sony Records over royalties from their 1982 mega-hit “Eye Of the Tiger”. They’re claiming they’re owed money from digital downloads and streams of the song.

THE BUTT OF JOKES:
Unless you’ve been in a coma, you’ve likely heard (or seen) that Kim Kardashian has shown off her ample ‘assets’ on the cover of “Paper Magazine”. This fascination with Kim’s rear may be getting out of hand. Most women can’t – or won’t – pony up $10,000 for a surgically enhanced booty like Kim’s, but there are now a slew of ‘butt enhancers’ on the market. A sampling …
✓ Blue Angel Butt Enhancing Skinny Jeans – They taper around the hips and even purportedly work to flatten your tummy.
✓ Booty Pop Boyshorts – Basically, we’re talking padded underwear.
✓ Gluteboost Butt Enhancement Cream – Contains what the company calls ‘Voluplus’ and ‘Volufiline’, ingredients that allegedly activate fat tissue.
✓ Gluteboost Butt Enhancement Pills – They’re supposed to increase estrogen throughout the body, concentrating fat cells where they matter.
✓ On the Daily Butt Lift Jeans – Feature a heart-shaped seam to ‘suck the cheeks together’.
✓ Spanx Slimplicity Booty Booster Shorts – High-waisted compression shorts with a firm, wide, oval-shaped pad for each cheek.
✓ Vedette Amie Mid-Thigh High Waist Open Bottom Enhancer – Compression material that stretches from the belly button to mid-thigh, with 2 dinner-plate-sized holes for butt projection.
(Like it or not, these days it’s “All About That Bass”.)

BS BUZZWORDS:
New terms leaking into our lingo …
• ‘Dronestagram’ – A photo or video shot from a drone.
• ‘Fintech’ – The industry consisting of companies that create or sell financial technology.
• ‘Lumbersexual’ – A new trend for men to look more rugged as compared to the overly-groomed ‘metrosexual’ look of times past. The look often entails a scruffy beard and relaxed soft flannel checked shirt. Could Kanye West be the archetypal lumbersexual?
• ‘Super-Gentrification’ – The rebuilding and upgrading that occurs when exceptionally wealthy people move into an already well-off or middle-class area.

MORE TROUBLE WITH TEXTING:
Who knew? Texting can put more than 60 lbs of pressure on your spine. According to a new study from New York Spine Surgery & Rehabilitation Medicine, bending your head at a 60-degree angle to send and receive texts distresses your cervical spine, the part above the shoulders. The head naturally weighs 10-to-12 lbs when upright, but bending the neck causes gravity to pull on it, putting the effect of more weight on the spine. And with typical users spending an average 2-to-4 hours per day with their neck bent for texting, all that extra weight adds up. Researchers say loss of the natural curve of the spine may lead to wear & tear, early degeneration, and possible need for surgery. (We ask again … please put down the phone.)

FROM THE BS POLL VAULT:
A statistical look at who we are and the things we do …
• 80% of pet owners have taken a selfie with their critter.
• 76% of married people say that if they ever won the lottery they would stay married.
• 66% of women under age 35 will diet between now and Christmas.
• 65% of women say they’d pick a good night’s sleep over a night of hot sex.
• 34% of us say we’d take a nap at work … if it was allowed.
• 25% of us have a stuffed animal in the bedroom.

NICE TAN:
Experts say dating apps that focus on looks trivialize romance. Sometimes, hiding faces at first can help people get to know each other. Voila! Enter a new fad … ‘Paper Bag Speed Dating’. An event scheduled for tonight at the New York Hall of Science will feature participants meeting potential matches while both have … a brown paper bag over their heads. Hosted by UK-based dating app Loveflutter, the event is intended to promote its #SayNoToShallow campaign to showcase personality over appearance. The company threw a similar stunt in London last July, where singles decorated their bags with doodles and 140-character fun facts about themselves. Participants pay a $25 entrance fee. (It looks like a roomful of Oakland Raiders fans.)

FOR THE RECORD:
The world’s tallest roller coaster dubbed the ‘Skyscraper’ will be 570-feet tall (174 m) and reach speeds of 65 mph (105 km/h) when it makes its debut in Orlando FL in 2016. The thrill ride will be situated on International Drive near the Universal Orlando Resort and the further-back Disney theme parks. The current record holder for highest roller coaster is the 456-foot (139-m) ‘Kingda Ka’ at Six Flags Great Adventure park in Jackson NJ.
