WEEKEND TABLOID & BLOG BS:

• Swedish retailer H&M has teamed with the costume designer from “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” on a new clothing collection inspired by the movie’s protagonist ‘Lisbeth Salander’. Trish Summerville debuts her new line of  tribal-style earrings, leather jackets, hoodies, and lace-up boots today at Paris boutique Colette. The Hollywood movie adaptation of the best-selling novel, starring Rooney Mara & Daniel Craig, opens December 21st.

• The January issue of “Life With Archie” will feature the wedding of ‘Kevin Keller’, the first openly gay character in the ‘Archie’ comic world, after he returns home from military service. As originally announced in a September press release, he will marry his African-American partner ‘Clay Walker’, making this likely the first interracial gay marriage to include the likes of ‘Mr Weatherbee’, ‘Jughead Jones’, and ‘Reggie Mantle’ as guests. The other wedding storyline in the upcoming issue involves the disintegration of ‘Archie’s own wedding to ‘Veronica’.

• Cher’s transgender son Chaz Bono (‘Dancing With the Stars’) has surprised his longtime fiancée by presenting her with an engagement ring on her birthday. He originally proposed to Jennifer Elia in 2009, then had to put things on hold. But he’s now cemented the engagement with a diamond ring during a trip to Seattle, Washington. Surprise, surprise … the moment was caught on camera for the reality show “Being Chaz” (OWN), in an episode that aired last night.

• Movie star Christian Bale is hanging up his cape for good, saying his upcoming superhero movie will be his last. He first took on the role in 2005’s “Batman Begins”, then returned in “The Dark Knight” in 2008, which pulled in over $1 billion in worldwide box office. He’s donned the ‘Caped Crusader’ cowl a 3rd time for Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated “The Dark Knight Rises” (opening July 2012), but says it’s the end of his ‘Batman’ era now that filming has wrapped on that production.

• Movie actor Ryan Gosling (“The Ides of March”, “Drive”) has surprised his rumored new girlfriend Eva Mendes by flying to Paris, France to take her out on a romantic date. Mendes is in France filming the new movie “Holly Motors”. They were snapped on Saturday linking arms and kissing as they strolled through Paris’ famed Pere Lachaise Cemetery. Apparently making out beside Jim Morrison’s grave is ‘romantic’.

• Britain’s Prince William put his helicopter rescue training to the test in the pre-dawn hours Sunday. He co-piloted one of 2 choppers sent out after a Mayday call at 2 am Sunday. It came from a cargo ship that had been swamped off the coast of Wales by a huge wave, throwing its Russian crew into the sea. William’s Sea King helicopter is believed to be the one that carefully plucked 2 crew members from a floundering life raft.

TODAY’S SHOW BIZ SKED:
• “Ellen DeGeneres Show” (syndicated/CTV2) – Minnie Driver (“Seastories”).
• “Jimmy Kimmel Live” (ABC/CHCH) – The Civil Wars (“Barton Hollow”).
• “Last Call With Carson Daly” (NBC) – Cold War Kids (“Mine Is Yours”). Rerun.
• “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” (NBC/CTV2) – Reggae legend Jimmy Cliff.
• “Late Show With David Letterman” (CBS/NTV/Omni1) – Classic rockers David Crosby & Graham Nash. Rerun.
• “Live With Kelly” (syndicated/CTV) – Avril Lavigne (“Goodbye Lullaby”).
• “The Sing-Off” (NBC) – The final 3 groups perform a final time before finding out the winner.
• “Today” (NBC) – Michael Bublé (“Christmas”).
• “Tonight Show With Jay Leno” (NBC/CTV2) – She & Him (“A Very She & Him Christmas”).

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Chris Brown – Speculation has it that his move to a home in the Hollywood Hills was in part due to constant complaints from neighbors at his former condo in West Hollywood. They ranged from disagreements over noise levels to admonishment for his use of disabled parking spaces.
• Coldplay – Frontman Chris Martin halted a solo charity gig in London to reprimand a fan for … playing tambourine in the audience. Actually he was quite polite, noting they tried tambourine on the original recording of “The Scientist” but chose to scrap it so he’s been playing it for 10 years without it.
• Jimmy Wayne – Tonight he performs the pre-game anthem for the New York Giants @ New Orleans Saints game on “Monday Night Football” (ESPN). The “Do You Believe Me Now” country singer is the author of the newly released book “Paper Angels”.
• Lady Gaga – Friday she thrilled students at Toronto’s Etobicoke School Of the Arts by appearing in a video to rally support for its anti-bullying campaign during a special assembly. The student council president managed to keep the celebrity appearance a secret for a month.
• Michael Jackson – That previously unseen film from his 1993 “Dangerous” tour, which had a $6.4-million reserve bid at a London auction on Saturday, has failed to sell. A former chauffeur was trying to flog the footage, recorded in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

2011 TACKY TASTE AWARDS:
Syndicated Hollywood columnists Marilyn Beck & Stacy Jenel Smith have just released the results of their 34th annual poll on the ‘Tackiest Celebrities Of the Year’ …
5. Lindsay Lohan – You know you’ve hit bottom when Heidi Fleiss goes on TV to congratulate you for posing for “Playboy” and says you’d make a great hooker.
4. Gerard Depardieu – A natural for this list for urinating in the aisle of a plane after being told he had to wait until after takeoff to use the bathroom, causing a 2-hour flight delay.
3. Arnold Schwarzenegger – The former governator deserves recognition for cheating on his wife, then having the incredibly bad taste to wear an ‘I Survived Maria’ t-shirt in public.
2. Chuck Lorre & Charlie Sheen – The “Two-and-a-Half Men” creator and his former star stand together. Sheen’s lack of tact is obvious; and Lorre needs to stop rehashing Charlie’s downfalls.
1. Kim Kardashian & Family – From the fake marriage down to the crappy clothes at Sears, it’s an entire clan of tacky money-grubbers. (Speaking of which, the Ryan Seacrest-produced series “Kourtney & Kim Take NYC” debuted last night on E! channel.)

ALTERNATIVE THANKS:
It is considered one of the basics of politeness, but saying ‘thank you’ may be dying out, according to new research. 40% of Food Network poll respondents believe they use ‘thank you’ less than previous generations. Rather than failing to show gratitude, 1-in-3 of us are simply using other words to express it. Among them: ‘awesome’, ‘cheers’, ‘cool’, ‘dude!’, ‘gracias’, ‘great’, ‘how nice of you’, ‘merci’, ‘much appreciated’, ‘much obliged’, and ‘nice one’. (“We are so, so sorry for your loss.” “Well, nice one.” ?!?!?!?)

INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE WHO NEVER EXISTED:
5. The Marlboro Man … worst mass murderer of all time?.
4. Robin Hood … the fictional hero of numerous movies and TV shows.
3. Romeo & Juliet … an inspiration for lovers everywhere.
2. Barbie … over 1 billion sold worldwide.
1. Santa Claus … what do you mean he never lived, you’re kidding, right?

TOP TIPPERS:
A recent trade magazine survey finds that men are usually better tippers than women, and the biggest tippers of servers in restaurants and bars are … OTHER waiters, waitresses, and bartenders who are visiting. Seems they understand what it’s like to scrape for change. And the worst tippers? Doctors and lawyers. (What a surprise, those who can most afford to … don’t.)

SIGNS YOU’RE LIVING A FINANCIAL LIE:
Basically, a financial lie is when you’re living a life that doesn’t line up with your actual finances.
Here are a few common signs you may need to rethink your spending habits …
• You’re unable to construct a budget because you can’t make the numbers balance.
• You have no savings. None.
• You use store credit cards.
• You lie to your spouse about purchases.
• You don’t have any idea how much debt you actually have.

WHAT’S IN A NAME:
Research in the “Journal of Social Psychology” finds that you’ll do better at any given occupation if your name seems to match the job. For instance, someone named ‘Hank’ is more likely to be accepted as a plumber rather than a neurosurgeon. And conversely, people whose names don’t seem to fit their occupation have more trouble finding a job. (For example … president Michele Bachmann.)

UGLY CHRISTMAS SWEATERS – LITE:
Ironically-ugly Christmas sweaters have been a holiday party must-wear for a few years now. But the latest (wannabe) trend is incredibly unfashionable ‘ugly sweater t-shirts’. They cost about $20 and t-shirt maker Vardagen claims they capture ‘all the flair of an ugly Christmas sweater on a soft, spun cotton t-shirt that can be worn year-round’. (Uh, the only cool thing about Christmas sweaters is they’re uncool … the more applique and puffy paint, the better.)

BS THINGS YOU’VE PROBABLY NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT:
A few uplifting thoughts to make a Monday morning seem a little brighter, thanks to some anonymous online philosopher …
• At least 5 people in this world love you so much they would die for you.
• At least 15 people in this world love you in some way.
• A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone, even if they don’t like you.
• You mean the world to someone.
• If not for you, someone may not be living.
