BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Wynonna Judd has responded to the commentary surrounding her opening performance at the 2023 CMA Awards. The 59-year-old took to Instagram and TikTok to respond to fan concern over her after she took to the stage to sing ‘Need a Favor’ with Jelly Roll. During the performance, Judd held onto Jelly Roll, which prompted several fans to become concerned about her health. In a video post titled “Don’t read the comments, they say…” a smiling Judd said: “I’m just gonna come clean with y’all…he asked me to sing and I said, ‘Absolutely!’ I got out there and I was so nervous that I just held on for dear life. And that’s the bottom line.” She also shared that she was traveling to Texas to resume her “Back to Wy Tour” last night, assuring fans, “All is well!” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/28jsm5zm

★ Zac Efron has heard the news about Matthew Perry wanting to cast him in a biopic about the “Friends” actor’s life. The “High School Musical” and “Baywatch” actor called Perry a “mentor” in his life. The two starred together in the 2009 teen fantasy comedy “17 Again.” Efron told People: “I’m honored to hear he was thinking of me to play him…I’d be honored to do it.” He continued, saying that he not only looked up to Perry, he “learned comedic timing from that guy.” Perry’s friend Athenna Crosby first revealed the actor’s plans for a movie about his life in an interview shortly after Perry’s passing.

★ The Internet is in a frenzy over what looks like big “Shrek” news — the apparent leaking of the release date for the 5th movie — courtesy of an intern, of all people. “Shrek 5″ is trending, after a screengrab of an alleged LinkedIn resume from a young woman who claims to have recently worked at NBCUniversal — the parent company of the Shrek-making studio, DreamWorks. The woman claims to have worked on “Shrek 5” this year, and says it is scheduled to come out in 2015. Since it was posted and widely shared, the woman’s profile’s been tweaked, with the Shrek mention scrubbed.

★ Don’t expect to see Jack Nicholson pop up in a movie anytime soon. He’s enjoying retirement too much, says his longtime pal, Lou Adler. On the “WTF With Marc Maron” podcast, the music and film producer said that Nicholson, who is 86, recently turned down a role, because he’s simply “doing whatever he wants to do…He wants to be quiet, he wants to eat what he wants, he wants to live the life he wants.”

★ “Pretty Little Liars” star Ashley Benson is a married woman! She recently tied the knot with oil heir Brandon Davis. ET quotes sources as saying the couple is now legally wed and that they are also excitedly awaiting the birth of their first child. The confirmation comes just days after Benson’s mother, Shannon Benson, shared a photo of what looks to be her daughter and her new son-in-law wearing wedding bands. 33-year-old Benson recently confirmed that she is pregnant.

★ Beloved “Today” weatherman Al Roker’s health scare nearly took his life last year, he has revealed. He was hospitalized last November due to blood clots in his legs that moved to his lungs. His doctors also found 2 bleeding ulcers and, while he was in surgery, were forced to resection his colon, remove his gallbladder and restructure his duodenum, a part of the small intestine. In a podcast appearance, Rocker reflected on the situation, saying: “It’s no secret I had a severe medical issue … I almost died. I didn’t know it at the time. [My wife] Deborah [Roberts] and [my daughter] Leila were really instrumental in keeping that away from me so I could concentrate.” Although he missed the holiday season, Roker says that wanting another Christmas with his family is what helped him pull through.

THAT’S WHAT FRIENDS ARE FOR:
Of course, you love your closest friends dearly – but that doesn’t mean that they don’t drive you nuts sometimes. So, with that in mind, let’s have a look at the most ‘common points of contention’ among best friends, according to a panel of UK experts…
• Politics: Polarizing issues can be a problem among friends, especially if the discussion or debate can’t be held “respectively and sensitively.” (That can be done?)
• Miscommunication: It is vital to a healthy friendship — but can quickly cause a relationship to deteriorate if both parties can’t adequately express their feelings. (But I just TRIED to talk about my feelings on politics…!)
• Flakiness: Unreliability – perhaps in the form of chronic tardiness, last-minute cancellations or broken promises — can cause problems due to the erosion of trust, which is important in a solid friendship. (Is this why my friends always tell me to show up an hour earlier than I need to?)
• Lack of reciprocity: Also known as a “lopsided friendship”, this can cause resentment and being undervalued. (How come YOU always get to feel resentful and undervalued?)
• Narcissism: This can make a friend feel “unimportant”. (Ah — You’re probably just jealous because that friend is better than you!)

NEWS OF THE WEIRD:
➢ The best way to avoid skyrocketing rents is not to pay rent at all. A man in China was recently busted – after living undetected in a mall for 6 months — during which time, he evaded security by hunkering down in a tent under the stairs. A video showing his epic living spree is all over X. It shows that the unidentified man had stashed a tent, table, computer and chair under the staircase. He would periodically pop out to charge his devices at the shopping center’s outlets. Things went well for the mallrat – until he was discovered by a security guard last month. (I could never live that close to a Cinnabon – without being able to go get one!) LINK: https://tinyurl.com/22589dfw
➢ I’m relieved to tell you that 4 men have been charged over the theft of an 18-carat gold toilet from Blenheim Palace, the English mansion where Winston Churchill was born. The toilet, valued at 4.8 million pounds (US $6million), was the work of Italian conceptual artist Maurizio Cattelan. It was part of an art installation at Blenheim Palace, near the city of Oxford, a few days before it vanished overnight in September 2019. The golden toilet, titled “America,” was intended to be a satire about excessive wealth. The lavatory was fully functioning, and prior to the theft, visitors to the exhibition could book a 3-minute appointment to use it. The suspects will appear in court Nov. 28. (Keep your “Take a crapper” jokes to yourself!)

DID YOU KNOW?
In a new survey of Americans with access to a streaming services, 45% said having different movie tastes is a relationship dealbreaker. Other revelations from the OnePoll survey: nearly 6 in 10 (57%) people consider streaming a movie or series and hooking up as an acceptable first date. And the average person streams a whopping 1,112 hours of content a year. That’s 21 hours per week. (Man! I could save a lot of money if I dropped my streaming services. On potato chips alone!)

BS CHRONOMETER 11.10.23
BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Vanilla Cupcake Day”. While they may not be most people’s favorite cupcake, hardly anyone DIS-likes them. Another advantage is that any kind of frosting tastes good on them. (You’ll notice it is plural . . . ‘CupcakeSSS Day’, so have as many as you want!)
• “Forget-Me-Not Day”, for remembering those whose lives have touched us in some way. You’re encouraged to think of people who had an impact on your life and the way in which they changed it. (Then go see a lawyer and file charges…)
• “Sesame Street Day”, saluting the 1969 debut of the landmark children’s TV show on PBS. It was the first preschool educational TV show to base its contents on laboratory research. (I suppose we should order a “Bert-day cake”!)
• “World Science Day for Peace & Development, established by UNESCO in 2001, to highlight the significant role of science in society and the need to engage the public in debates on emerging scientific issues. (I’ve heard a few too many debates on some scientific issues lately…) LINK: https://tinyurl.com/y2bnxb8b
• “Accounting Day”, an annual observance to promote the profession and provide an opportunity for networking among accountants in public practice, industry, and government. (Sounds exciting.)
• “Area Code Day”, they were introduced in the 1940’s to solve the issue of not enough phone numbers to go around. Initially, densely populated regions were assigned codes with lower numbers at the beginning and end. Why? It was determined that those in urban areas should be able to dial faster. And how do you make rotary phones dial faster? By using lower numbers, which had a shorter “pull time”.
• “Civic Pride Day”, in the US, a day to inspire everyone to promote the dynamic communities they live in. A reminder to help maintain a healthy city or town, and to get involved and help improve the place where you live.
SATURDAY-
• “Remembrance Day”, commemorating the end of WWI at 11 am on the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. It’s observed in Canada, the UK, and Australia…and in Belgium & France as “Armistice Day”. The original tradition is to observe 2 minutes of silence at 11am.
• “Veterans Day” in the USA, the annual observance originally called “Armistice Day”, renamed in 1954. The day now honors all American military veterans.
• “Origami Day”, celebrating the ancient Japanese art of paper-folding. (Scrunch, scrunch, scrunch, hey look what I made … it’s a flu virus!)
• “Singles Day” in China, begun by college students in the 1990s as a version of Valentine’s Day, honoring those who’ve yet to wed. It has developed into a major shopping day for gifts to woo that special someone. It’s scheduled on 11-11 because it’s the date with the most ‘singles’. LINK: http://tinyurl.com/mhf7kub
• “Martinmas”, the date of the annual “Martinmas Goose Celebration” at the town hall in Sursee, Switzerland. Blindfolded participants try to cut down a suspended goose with a single sword stroke. The warm weather that (sometimes) occurs around this time is called ‘St Martin’s Summer’ in Europe.
• “Metal Day”, in honor of the classic 1984 metal mockumentary “This is Spinal Tap”, which, among others, gave us the classic line: “These go to 11” to describe how the band’s amps go “one louder” than 10. The day was first celebrated in 2011 (so yes, 11-11-11) by VH1 Classic. (So, flash the Devil horns, crank it to 11 and have . . . a good time . . . all the time!)
• “Sundae Day”, Did you know that the most expensive sundae ever sold for $60,000? California ice cream brand Three Twins offered it, featuring ice cream hand-churned with glacial ice from the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. And the purchaser actually got to eat it on the summit. And got to fly there first-class, and stay in a 5-star hotel. Plus, a souvenir T-shirt. And $10,000 went to charity. (So, the sundae itself was basically worth…$6.99, same as at Dairy Queen?)
SUNDAY-
• “Diwali” begins, a Hindu religious festival of lights, one of the most important festivals within Hinduism. It usually lasts 5 days, and symbolizes the spiritual “victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance”.
• “Pizza With the Works Except Anchovies Day”. The world’s first true pizzeria, Antica Pizzeria Port’Alba, opened in 1830 and is still in business today in Naples, Italy. Italian immigrant Gennaro Lombardi opened the first North American pizzeria in 1895 in NYC. Pizza is now consumed all over the world …with or without anchovies. (Sounds fishy to me…)
• “Happy Hour Day”, celebrates the time at bars and restaurants when drinks are served at discounted prices. Happy hours usually take place in the late afternoon – and usually for more than an hour. (Booze won’t fix your life…but it’s worth a ‘shot’!)
• “Fancy Rat & Mouse Day”, a day set aside for people who appreciate pets . . . that are vermin. LINK: http://www.afrma.org
• “World Pneumonia Day”, an annual forum for the world to stand together and demand action in the fight against the deadly lung inflammation. More than 100 organizations representing the interests of children staged the first observance in 2009.
• “Chicken Soup for the Soul Day”, honoring the sappy series of feel-good books. Conventional wisdom says that chicken soup works wonders on the common cold. So, “chicken soup” became a shorthand for a cure-all, a mysterious-but-effective way to solve problems. The book series spawned a generation of sentimental spinoffs. (If you enjoy crying while in the bathroom…)

➠ Kendall Jenner says she will get cosmetic work done on her face — eventually. (Which might be the first time “Kendall Jenner” and the word “work” have ever been used in the same sentence!)

➠ (***Caution***) Baseball cards, Bingo, and Battleship are among the nominees for the Toy Hall of Fame this year. (Although, if criteria includes the number of people who’ve played with it, I can’t see why Taylor Swift isn’t being considered…)
