Never Accept a Generic – Ask For Pure “BS”!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ After last year’s Golden Globes marked the inaugural Carol Burnett Award for lifetime achievement in television, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has announced the first non-Carol Burnett recipient. Ellen DeGeneres will be the next to receive the honor. She will be recognized for her work in sitcoms, stand-up comedy, and her current daytime television talk show, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”. President of the HFPA, Lorenzo Soria, said in a statement: “She is a pioneer who has captivated audiences for nearly 25 years with her undeniable charm and wit. In addition to her television success, she’s an advocate and philanthropist, lending her voice to those who don’t have one, and spreading kindness and joy through the power of her platform.”

★ Lena Dunham has revealed that she’s dealing with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a chronic disease that affects the joints and skin. The creator and star of “Girls” posted the announcement on Instagram in response to the publication of a paparazzi photo that showed her walking with a cane. Dunham, who is 33, wrote: “This is what life is like when I’m struggling most with chronic illness. An Ehler-Danlos syndrome flare means that I need support from more than just my friends… so thank you, sweet cane!” She indicates in her post that she has been dealing with the affliction for “years”.

★ Olivia Newton-John has officially said goodbye to her vast collection of film and music memorabilia acquired over nearly half a century of stardom — including the famed leather jacket and pants she wore in the final scene of “Grease”. More than 40 years since the iconic film hit the big screen, the famed outfit, worn by Newton-John as she strutted her stuff at Rydell High’s carnival, sold for a total of $405,700 at Julien’s Auctions on Saturday. All the proceeds from the Grease jacket and pants will go to the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre in her home country of Australia.

★ Caitlyn Jenner is returning to reality TV, and she’s getting a huge paycheck for it. She’s signed a deal to star in the popular British series, “I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!” The former Olympian is reportedly set to make $647,000 for her participation on the show. In addition to her many years on “Keeping Up With The Kardashians”, she also starred on her own reality show called “I Am Cait” for two seasons.

WE WISH YOU AN EARLY CHRISTMAS:
Get set to bust out the Christmas decorations this weekend, because, apparently, it’s good for you. A new report says that decorating your home for Christmas early, even right after Halloween, can make you a happier person. The report, which is an analysis of a number of previous studies, shows that decking your halls early boosts your spirits because it tends to trigger pleasant childhood memories, and makes people feel more social. It also encourages us to want to give, and to do good things for others. People with festive homes are seen to others as “more friendly”, and the decorations can lead to positive conversations with neighbors.
(By that rationale, the stores in the mall must be REALLY, REALLY happy….and have been since about the time school started!)
(I know I’m happy to leave my Christmas lights up all year!)

SNOW GOOD:
By now, we should all be aware of microplastics. Microplastics are plastic fragments less than 5mm in length that come from any number of sources, including rubber tires, paint, cosmetics, toothpaste tubes and synthetic clothing, and scientists are worried about their effect on the planet, and on us. Here’s what you may not know. Microplastics have been discovered falling with snow in the Arctic – even though there are very few people there. A new report in “Science Advances” documents two dozen Northern Hemisphere locations where tiny plastic fibers have been found, and the “pristine” Arctic snow is one of them. Because they’ve been found falling from the sky, there’s now a question of whether people might be breathing microplastics. And if so, what impact inhaling them could have on humans and wildlife? It is believed that the plastic fibres are being ‘washed’ out of the air by the falling snow.
(So you can understand why people are trying to encourage us to use less plastic…)

HAPPINESS IS…
A Reddit thread recently asked people “What little things keep you happy?” Here are some of the best responses:
⇒ “The sound of my dog following me around the house. I get up, he gets up. I hear his little feet tapping on the floor and his metal collar and tags clinking together…it’s perfect.”
⇒ “Whenever someone tells me that a certain thing reminded them of me, or that they thought of me after looking at something.”
⇒ “When my husband takes the time to brush the snow off my car, even though it’s early and he really doesn’t have to. It makes my heart smile that he thinks of me.”
⇒ “Eating good comfort food while starting an episode of a series that you’re bingeing, knowing that there are hundreds more unseen episodes waiting.”
⇒ “Watching a bird take a bath. They look like they enjoy it so much.”
⇒ “The beauty of the stars and planets, especially on a cool, crisp night.”
⇒ “If I brought up something in a conversation with someone about what I wanted to do and the next time we meet they ask how it went.”
⇒ “As a guy, receiving a genuine compliment. It is rare, but it can make my whole year, honestly, and is always a good memory.”

DID YOU KNOW?
You are a more convincing liar if you need to pee when you tell it. Because of a phenomenon called the ‘inhibitory spillover effect,’ the need to control your bladder also forces your brain to activate more self-control, which helps hide the usual telltale bodily clues that you are fibbing.
