Thanks For Being a Bull Market!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:

“Life & Style” magazine reports 29-year-old Brazilian model Gisele Bundchen is expecting a baby girl via NFL QB-hubby Tom Brady (New England Patriots), contradicting previous reports that the tot due in December is a boy to be named Gabriel (Gabriella then?) . . . China’s Ministry of Culture issued a regulation banning lip-synching during commercial concerts in September, now the ‘Godfather of Chinese Rock’, Cui Jian, is spearheading a movement to ban it from TV as well (we need this here!) . . . An unidentified paparazzo has been charged by LAPD with misdemeanor hit-and-run after allegedly ramming the security vehicle tailing Michael Jackson’s children in a vehicle driven by their nanny (now it’s second-generation hounding) . . . This week Pearl Jam, REM, Rage Against the Machine and other musicians have signed up to support the ‘National Campaign to Close Guantanamo’ (and how about giving the land back that was ‘temporarily’ borrowed from Cuba – in 1898?) . . . Facing $6 million in back taxes owed to the IRS, 45-year-old actor Nicolas Cage has reportedly sold his Bel Air CA mansion for a ‘fire sale’ amount estimated between $9.5-and-$15 million (original asking price – $35 million!) . . . Soccer superstar David Beckham has shockingly been caught by paparazzi, illegally texting while driving (it’s the new DUI!) . . . TMZ.com reports 55-year-old actor Dennis Quaid (“GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra”) narrowly avoid DUI charges early yesterday when LAPD warned him against driving his SUV home before he could drive away from the West Hollywood venue where he’d been partying (post a cop at each club?) . . . And 40-year-old actor Edward Norton (“The Incredible Hulk”) says he thinks social networking websites are like ‘torture’ (proving that – he’s now a 40-year-old).

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT HAND SANITIZERS:
As H1N1 panic begins to boil again, here are a few facts about effective prevention …
• Alcohol-based hand sanitizers have been proven more effective than plain soap & water in preventing the transmission of bacteria via hands.
• Your hands also tend to stay cleaner longer after using a hand sanitizer.
• Effective hand sanitizers should contain between 60-and-80% alcohol.
• The idea that frequent use of hand sanitizers will make bacteria resistant to treatment is bogus.
• Hand sanitizers are easier on skin than soap because most now contain skin conditioners.
• To use a hand sanitizer effectively, first make sure your hands are free of visible grime & dirt.
• To be effective, sanitizer needs to be rubbed in vigorously for 30 seconds, until hands are dry.
• Never rinse hands with water or wipe with a towel afterward as it counteracts the effectiveness.

HOW TO RETIRE AT 85:
Thanks to steep drops in the value of savings over the past year-and-a-half, more of us are planning to delay retirement. A study released Thursday by insurer Sun Life Financial has found that fully 65% of workers surveyed plan to stay on the job at least one more year than planned, an 11% increase from a similar survey in January. Why? There’s a huge drop in confidence due to the fall of stock markets since 2007. At the same time, longer life expectancies mean most of us need to build up more savings before retiring. (Hmm, is Walmart looking for greeters?)

JAPAN TOPS LIFE EXPECTANCY:
Girls born in Japan today are likely to live until 2095, some with a good chance of seeing the dawn of the next century thanks to having the world’s longest life expectancy for women, 86 years. The tiny nation of San Marino boasts the longest average lifespan for men, 81 years. Other top life expectancies (for both genders combined), according to the World Health Organization …
1. Japan (83)
2. Australia/Iceland/Italy/San Marino/Switzerland (82)
3. Andorra/Canada/France/Israel/Monaco/New Zealand/Norway/Singapore/Spain/Sweden (81)
The USA legs behind leaders at 78, but that’s far better than the West African nation of Sierra Leone, which has the lowest average life expectancy … just 41.

SHOPPING 9-TO-5:
According to a new poll, 1-in-10 of us plans to spend more than 30 hours shopping online during the upcoming holiday season … while at work. On average, we’ll spend 14.4 hours holiday shopping online from work this year. ‘Convenience’ is the reason a third of respondents say they shop online, while a quarter cite ‘boredom’. Roughly half those surveyed say they bank online at work; 60% click on e-mail links to shopping sites; and 17% click on shopping links from social network sites. About 11% of us plan to use a smart phone for holiday shopping as well.
