BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Colin Jost has made “Saturday Night Live” history. Last weekend’s SNL officially made him the longest running “Weekend Update” host ever, with 155 episodes under his belt. The record was previously held by Seth Meyers, who finished his tenure behind the desk at 154 episodes. Co-host Michael Che is on track to shatter Meyers’ record soon too. He has served as a “Weekend Update” host for 147 episodes, topping even Tina Fey, who notched 117 episodes behind the desk.

★ Gal Gadot has hinted her 3 children will appear in “Wonder Woman 3”. She’s set to reprise her role as the superheroine in the upcoming third instalment in the DC Extended Universe franchise, and after her kids and her husband, Yaron Versano, made cameos in “Wonder Woman 1984”, she’s suggesting they could return for the next movie. Quote: “Well, we might…It’s a nice souvenir — in each movie they’re going to be older and older.”

★ (***CHECK FOR DATING***) Current “Jeopardy!” champion Jonathan Fisher is racking up the wins. After putting an end to Matt Amodio’s winning streak, Fisher has gone on a streak of his own and has since won 10 games. The champion helped make Jeopardy! history upon his 10th win, as it marked the first time that the show has featured back-to-back double-digit champions. Fisher has already earned a spot in the Tournament of Champions and had won a total of $230,100 as of the end of last week.

★ Corey Feldman’s prosthetic ear from “Stand By Me” is set to go under the hammer. His character in the 1986 coming-of-age drama, ‘Teddy Duchamp’, had his ear burned off when his father shoved his head into a flaming hot stove. Now, the rubber ear and an NFT digital art are set to be auctioned off in honor of the 35th anniversary of the flick. Feldman said: “I don’t know what you’re going to do with the ear. Wear it for Halloween, throw darts at it, use it as a coaster! The possibilities are limitless.” Fans who wish to own the unique piece of memorabilia are invited to bid between October 31 and November 3. A replica of the ear and an NFT are also being sold for $12.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Ed Sheeran — has tested positive for COVID-19. He announced his diagnosis on social media on Sunday, days before this Friday’s release of his latest album, “=”. He indicated he’ll do his best to participate virtually in scheduled interviews and performances in the coming weeks.
• Adele – told Vogue that her most prized possession is a wad of Celine Dion’s chewed gum. Other revelations unearthed in her participation in the magazine’s “73 Questions” feature: London is her favorite city to play, and there’s no cure for stage fright. She also shared her best piece of advice: “Keep your heart safe and your music dangerous.”
• Coldplay – Their new “Music of the Spheres” album shot straight to #1 on the Official UK Albums Chart, and is the fastest-selling album of 2021 so far, with sales of 101,000 in its opening week. It’s the group’s 9th consecutive #1 album in the UK.
• Pink Floyd – Gerald Scarfe, who designed the iconic artwork for their classic album “The Wall”, told Uncut magazine that he created it on Roger Waters’ kitchen table. Quote: “I had to create all the characters…all these semi-cartoon figures – very quickly because the album was coming out.” His book “The Art of Pink Floyd: The Wall” will be released Nov. 11.
• David Bowie — Immersive Bowie pop-ups have opened in New York and London. Called “Bowie 75”, the experiential events opened on Oct. 25, 75 days before Bowie would have turned 75, on Jan. 8. The NY pop-up is a short walk from Bowie’s one-time home on Lafayette St. The London location is on Heddon Street, where he shot the famous “Ziggy Stardust” album cover.
• Guns N’ Roses – Slash says they still haven’t written any new material since regrouping in 2016, even though they recently released 2 reworked songs from the early 2000s. Meanwhile, his new solo album “4” will drop on Feb. 11, another collaboration with Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators.
• Brandi Carlile — After releasing both a book and album this year, she is already hard at work on another book project. Although she won’t say much about it yet, she did say “I love writing books…it’s taken me to a new place in my life that I had shut myself down to after not finishing high school, and it makes me feel capable in a way I didn’t know I was before.”
• Luke Bryan – Although his “Crash My Playa 2022” event sold out in April, fans headed to Riviera Cancun, Mexico in January finally know who they’ll see perform. In addition to Bryan, the just-announced lineup includes Jason Aldean, Dustin Lynch, Ashley McBryde, Riley Green, Jimmie Allen, LOCASH, Jameson Rodgers, Lainey Wilson, Caitlyn Smith, Whitney Duncan, DJ Rock and Kendell Marvel.
• Travis Tritt – despite the fact that he has been vocal in his opposition to vaccine mandates, he was tapped to sing the National Anthem in Atlanta at Game 6 of the NLCS between the LA Dodgers and the hometown Braves. That created some debate on social media due to his pledge to not play at venues mandating a vaccine.
SHOOTING THE BULL
NOW SERVING:
➢From pumpkin spice to pink-colored candy, Kraft has been offering some interesting ways to kick up the flavor of its famous Mac n’ Cheese lately, and now, it is offering a way to add 3 new taste twists. Kraft Heinz has launched the Kraft Flvrs Club, and to encourage signups, it’s offering the chance to try the new “Flavor Boosts” seasoning mixes. The products, which the consumer mixes in from a packet, are available in pizza, ranch and buffalo varieties. Kraft Mac & Cheese Flavor Boosts will be available in stores early next year. (Dudes, where’s Ketchup flavor?)
➢ Nestlé’s frozen pizza brand DiGiorno is launching Mac n’ cheese-flavored pizza. The company says the topping for Original Rising Crust Mac & Cheese Pizza is inspired by Stouffer’s macaroni and cheese, another Nestlé item. It will hit the freezer aisle next spring at select stores. (Can I get a “pizza flavor boost” with that, or would that be redundant?)
➢ Kellogg has teamed up with Wendy’s to create a limited-edition Frosty Chocolatey Cereal. It features chocolate-flavored marshmallow pieces mixed with crispy, round, cocoa-coated cereal bites to create the flavor of the popular frozen treat. Each box also includes an offer for a free small Frosty or Frosty-ccino. (Because why NOT have dessert for breakfast?)

ANTISOCIAL MEDIA:
According to a new study, using social media comes with a load of risks to your health and well-being. Researchers with the University of Technology Sydney say they have discovered 46 specific harmful effects of using social networks. Study authors broke the dangers of social media down into 6 specific fields:
• Cost of social exchange: Including psychological harms, such as depression, anxiety, or jealousy, and other costs like wasting time, energy, and money.
• Annoying content: Including when users view content that annoys, upsets, or irritates them. (This actually happens?)
• Privacy concerns: Threats to personal privacy related to storing, repurposing, or sharing personal information with third parties.
• Security threats: Harms from fraud or deception which can emerge from phishing or social engineering scams.
• Cyberbullying: Any abuse or harassment by groups or individuals who send abusive messages, lie about others, stalk individuals, or spread rumors.
• Low performance: The negative impact social media use can have on job or academic performance. (It took a bunch of scientists to come up with that last one?)
(Only 46, huh?)
(But hey, at least we still have cat videos!)

BEAUTY CONTEST DOESN’T LOOK SO GOOD:
Three former Miss France candidates are suing the beauty pageant for choosing the “most attractive” contestant as winner. The anonymous women have joined forces with the leading French feminist group ‘Osez le feminisme’ (Dare to be feminist) to file a complaint. With the former contestants, the group is targeting the Miss France company and Endemol Production, which makes the annual TV show.
They argue the companies are breaking French labor law by having discriminatory selection criteria, requiring aspiring beauty queens to be more than 5ft 5in (1.65m) tall, single and ‘representative of beauty’. Contestants are also not allowed to gain weight, change their hair, or have any tattoos or piercings other than their ears. French labor code forbids companies from discriminating on the basis of morals, age, family status or physical appearance. The rules also say contestants must not have had children and never married. Miss France, which turned 100 this year, has been subject to decades of complaints that it is sexist and a leftover from a bygone era.
(Maybe they should throw in a complaint in there about allowing Botox, as well…)
(Seems they have a point. So…are they also discriminating based on gender?)
(We already have a pageant for ugly people. It’s called politics!)

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Pumpkin Day”, celebrating the orange member of the squash family best known for being carved into jack-o-lanterns or made into pie filling. Did you know that pumpkins are 90% water? At one time, they were recommended for removing freckles and curing snake bites. (Not saying it worked, just that it was recommended…)
• “Mincemeat Day”. Odds are you either love it or you can’t stand the stuff. Mincemeat is a mixture of chopped dried fruit, distilled spirits, spices, and sometimes beef suet. Originally, it always contained meat; many modern recipes use vegetable shortening in its place.
• “Horseless Carriage Day”, in the early days of automobiles, it was common that carriages were pulled by animals, typically horses, but automobiles were not. More recently, the phrase has been compared to “Retronyms” terms like ‘cordless phone’ and ‘wireless internet’, when a new technology is described by what it does not have, compared to older technology. Other examples include ‘acoustic guitar’, ‘natural flavor”, and ‘black-and-white tv’.
• “Mule Day”, celebrating these unique hybrid animals. Mules are the offspring of a male donkey and a female horse and are more common than hinnies, the offspring of a female donkey and a male horse. Because donkeys and horses are different species with a different number of chromosomes, their offspring are nearly always sterile. (And stubborn!)
• “Worldwide Howl at the Moon Night”, an annual pre-Halloween tradition. A wolf howl can carry up to 10 miles in areas where there are no trees. Owoooooo!
AND REMEMBER . . .
