We’ve Got Our Sheet Together!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
• A promotional poster for the “Diana” bio-pic has been removed from the site of the Princess of Wales’ fatal car crash in Paris, France after its advertising location sparked outrage. The print ad, depicting Naomi Watts as the late British royal, was posted at Place de l’Alma near the entrance to the tunnel where Princess Di died in 1997, and just a few feet away from the Flame of Liberty statue, which has become an unofficial memorial to Diana.

• Acting couple Michael Douglas & Catherine Zeta-Jones are giving their marriage another try after he moved back into the family home. The pair split in August after 13 years of marriage, but Douglas continuously downplayed rumors they were divorcing and insisted the problems were temporary. A new report suggests Zeta-Jones has now ‘allowed’ Douglas to return to their New York home, where she has been living with their 2 children.

• Charles Ferguson, director of a proposed Hillary Clinton documentary, has cancelled the project, saying political interference has made the film impossible. In August, the Republican Party voted to boycott debates on CNN if the doc about the potential 2016 presidential candidate went ahead. It also said it would boycott NBC-TV, which plans a mini-series on Clinton. That series, still in the early stages of production, is set to star actress Diane Lane as the former First Lady.

• Jodie Foster has apparently found love with TV host Ellen DeGeneres’ ex-girlfriend. The 50-year-old actress has been linked to photographer Alexandra Hedison, who dated DeGeneres for 3 years until they split in 2004. A report suggests they’ve been dating since the beginning of the Summer. Earlier this year, Foster used her Golden Globe Awards acceptance speech to thank her ex-partner Cydney Bernard for her long-time support.

• Arcade Fire, Eminem, and Lady Gaga are set to headline the 1st-ever “YouTube Awards”. The biggest video-sharing site will host its own music awards show on November 3rd, to be live-streamed from NYC’s Pier 36. The 90-minute inaugural event will feature performances by mainstream artists as well as YouTube sensations Lindsey Stirling and CDZA. Nominations will be announced October 17th; fans can then vote online by liking or sharing videos.

TIME FOR A DRINK:
Nearly half of us don’t drink enough water and even a 1-to-2% drop in hydration can impact on the way our bodies function. Here’s one solution: A new smart water bottle helps you stay hydrated by calculating how much water you need. The sensor-packed ‘BluFit’ bottle connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth to indicate water amounts needed, dictated by your weight and age, plus external factors such as the current temperature and humidity levels. When it’s time to take a drink an alert sounds and the bottle’s LEDs lights change color. The makers are now seeking funding via Indiegogo. (Another way to determine if you need hydration … no spit.)

MOST HONEST CITIES:
In an experiment to test honesty, a dozen wallets were ‘lost’ in each of 16 cities around-the-world to see where people were most likely to return them. The results …
5. Berlin, Germany / Ljubljana, Slovenia (6-of-12 wallets returned.)
4. Amsterdam, Holland / Moscow, Russia (7-of-12.)
3. Budapest, Hungary / New York, USA (8-of-12.)
2. Mumbai, India (9-of-12.)
1. Helsinki, Finland (An amazing 11-of-12 wallets returned!)
Bottom of the list: Lisbon, Portugal with … 1.

WHEN YOU’RE MOST LIKELY TO QUIT YOUR JOB:
According to a new poll, people are more likely to quit their jobs and start hunting for new roles after returning from a vacation. That’s likely because time off gives you the chance to assess your professional goals and think clearly about your current gig. It’s difficult to see the big picture when you’re mired in the day-to-day activities of your job. Experts say you should go ahead and make your move if you are positive your current job is a dead end. Not so sure? Give yourself a week to re-acclimate after a vacation, then consider if it’s time to start searching. (Another time you’re likely to quit … when you’ve got no money and it’s payday.)

FROM THE BS POLL VAULT:
A BS breakdown of who we are and what we do …
• 83% of people under age 30 use their mobile phones for an alarm clock.
• 66% of parents with babies post pictures on Facebook … at least 3 times a week.
• 60% of daters hate it when loud music gets in the way of good conversation.
• 50% of women and 25% of men take a pillow with them when they travel.
• 25% of married men have asked their wife to go check out a noise in the middle of the night.
• 4% of us will recycle our Halloween costumes from last year this year.

THE GUY WHO CAN RUIN YOUR RELATIONSHIP:
Hey guys, when your relationship is on the rocks, her ex is your biggest threat, according to new research from the University of Toronto. Scientists have found that women in unsatisfying relationships are more likely to long for former flames than for new prospects. That’s because fond memories may help them cope with current strains. If you suspect your girlfriend is eyeing up her ex, invest in areas of your relationship that she thinks are lacking, such as quality time together or physical affection. (It’ll help keep the ex out of her head … and her bed.)

BS BUZZWORDS:
New cutting-edge vocab …
• ‘Jigsaw Family’ – A household that includes 2 or more sets of children from the parents’ previous relationships. Also known as a ‘blended family’. (How many traditional families with a cohabitating biological mom & pop are in your kid’s class?)
• ‘Ladybro’ – New slang for a female friend, usually of another woman. (“Hey ladybro, after work we need to meet for Happy Hour and diss the guys in the office.”)
• ‘Throuple’ (rhymes with couple) – 3 people in a romantic relationship. Also known as a ‘romantic triad’. (Also known as ‘you wish’.)

TABLEWARE FOR TWO:
Now you can calm first-date jitters with an unlikely prop … your cutlery. A London designer has created ‘First Date Cutlery’, a line of spoons, forks, and knives to promote good table etiquette when you first meet someone. The specially-shaped soup spoons prevent embarrassing slurping sounds. Small magnets embedded in the forks and knives are meant to stimulate conversation as they bond and cross each other like swords. And the dessert spoon is shaped like an oval, encouraging the couple to share each other’s dessert choice if things are going well. (If this stuff actually works, you’ll only use it once.)

THINGS YOU NEVER KNEW WERE MADE IN PRISON:
You’ve likely heard that prison inmates crank out license plates in some jurisdictions, but did you know that those who are incarcerated also crank out these products?
• Ladies Undergarments
• Brooms and Brushes
• Processed Meats
• Digital, Data and Call Center Services

MONEY TO BURN:
Looking to show off the spiffiest spliff? Check out a new product called ‘Shine Papers’, 24-carat rolling papers that combine edible gold-leaf with a slow-burning interior paper. The inventor admits it’s definitely not an everyday product because of its price point … circa $60 for a pack of 12. Even so, the papers have already sold in 20 different countries, with the majority of sales directly through the product’s website. (Adds new meaning to ‘Acapulco Gold’.)

FOR THE RECORD:
Tennis star Venus Williams has been denied the chance to top her own record for world’s fastest serve by the absence of proper equipment. At the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo, Williams blasted a 209 km/hr (130 mph) serve in her match against Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard as measured by a spectator. But the World Tennis Association doesn’t sanction the use of radar guns in Japan so the record isn’t recognized. That means Williams’ 207-km/hr (129 mph) serve at the 2007 US Open remains the fastest serve in women’s tennis to date.
