When You Can’t Dazzle Them with Brilliance, Baffle Them with Bull!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Emma Watson & Benedict Cumberbatch have been named the ‘Sexiest Movie Stars 2013’ in an annual poll of some 50,000 movie fans by “Empire” magazine. Watson beat out the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Lawrence, Kristen Stewart, Anne Hathaway, Emma Stone, and Mila Kunis. The magazine suggests that’s because she ‘combines smarts with beauty’. Cumberbatch (“The Fifth Estate”) topped Tom Hiddleston, Henry Cavill, Ryan Gosling, Johnny Depp, and Daniel Craig.

★ First the CNN documentary on Hillary Clinton was scrapped this week, now the proposed 4-hour NBC-TV mini-series. Actress Diane Lane was slated to play potential presidential candidate Clinton onscreen but political opposition from both Republicans and Democrats has deep-sixed that plan. A Hollywood film project about the young Mrs Clinton will still go ahead, however. “Rodham” (Hillary’s maiden name) is being rewritten to play up the early romance between her and Bill Clinton.

★ Actor George Clooney has ruled out ever dating Sandra Bullock because she once went out with one of his best pals. The Hollywood superstars have been friends for 20 years and went through a tough time together filming “Gravity” (opening today). But despite both being single, Clooney says the fact Bullock once hooked up with one of his friends takes her out of the running as a potential girlfriend. That, he says, would violate the ‘bro code’.

★ And the Hollywood trade press is abuzz with speculation triple Oscar-winning actor Daniel Day-Lewis possibly being approached to star in the 7th installment of the “Star Wars” sci-fi movie saga. According to Latino-review.com, he was seen having lunch with George Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy, producer of the upcoming movie. Director JJ Abrams will begin shooting the 1st film in a new trilogy at the end of this year. It’s slated for release in December 2015.

• Drake – “Nothing Was the Same” has sailed to #1 on the all-genre album chart, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It’s his 3rd chart-topping album and his personal best sales week. It’s also the 2nd-largest sales week of 2013, after Justin Timberlake’s “The 20/20 Experience”.
• Jonas Bros – In a new interview in “Out” magazine, Joe Jonas says they refuse to feel offended over ongoing speculation about their sexuality. Quote: “We have a lot of gay friends and gay fans. It’s a boy-band stereotype; people assume, but we don’t take offence.”
• Luke Bryan – He’s scored a double-double, remaining atop both the ‘Billboard Country Albums’ chart with “Crash My Party” and the ‘Country Songs’ chart with “That’s My Kind of Night” for the coming week.
• Paul McCartney – Yesterday he did his 1st-ever Twitter Q&A with fans to promote the launch of his upcoming album “New” (October 15th), his first studio album of new solo material in 6 years.
• Rihanna – Her new video for “Pour It Up” makes Miley Cyrus’ recent effort look tame. She’s pictured in a blonde wig and diamond-studded bra & thong, pole-dancing and  twerking with other semi-naked dancers. How raunchy is it? Definitely NSFW!

QUICKIE CLEAN:
A team of dentists has created a toothbrush they say can clean teeth thoroughly … in under 6 seconds. Manufacturer ‘Blizzident’ uses the same scans dentists use to fit braces and an extremely precise 3-D printer to create a brush for each individual customer. Each brush contains about 400 soft bristles and requires the wearer to grind their teeth in order to clean them. Its makers say it eliminates brushing errors that people typically make. The technology comes at a price: A customer’s first brush, which will last a year, costs about $400. (After 10 years, about the same as a set of falsies.)

GINGER SNAPS:
How many redheads are there in the world? About 200 took part in the UK’s 1st “Ginger Pride March” in August, and the world record for the largest gathering of natural redheads was broken last month when 1,600 attended the “Redhead Day Festival” in the Dutch town of Breda (bray-DAW). It’s said between 1%-and-2%, or 70-to-140 million people worldwide, have red hair. Overall, Northern European countries have a greater proportion of redheads than anywhere else. Why? Being pale, redheads are more efficient at making vitamin D and do not need so much sunlight in order to get the amount they need. (Think about it: Ever see a native redhead in a hot country?)

FOR THE RECORD:
A British couple has beaten odds of 200 million-to-1 by giving birth to a set of identical triplets. That phenomenon only occurs when a single egg splits into 3. Baby girls Ffion, Maddison, and Paige are now home in Pontypool, Monmouthshire with parents Karen & Ian Gilbert after spending 6 weeks in intensive care. And here’s what makes the trio extra special – the Gilberts rejected doctors’ advice to terminate the pregnancy … twice.
