BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ TV action classic “MacGyver” (1985-92) is getting a revival as CBS-TV has officially put a new series into active development. The re-imagining of the series follows a 20-something ‘MacGyver’ as he gets recruited into a clandestine organization where he uses his knack for solving problems in unconventional ways to help prevent disasters from happening. The pilot is being helmed by “Furious 7” director James Wan. “MacGyver” joins a long list of older shows being dusted off and revived, including “The X-Files”, “Twin Peaks”, “Prison Break”, and “Heroes”.

★ 47-year-old Brit actor Daniel Craig says he doesn’t really care who next plays ‘James Bond’. While fans across the globe are speculating on who might next take on the identity of ‘Agent 007’, Craig isn’t preoccupied with the problem as “Spectre” is yet to be released and he still has a 5th film in his contract before he can consider retiring from the role. Quote: “The person should do the job and I don’t give a f— what color their skin is. It shouldn’t be an issue. A female is another story. But why not? ‘Jasmine Bond’?”
– “The Sun”
★ And sibling singing trio Haim are hoping to start their own music festival featuring only female artists. “The Wire” singers recently ended their trek as opening act for Taylor Swift’s “1989” tour, and now they’re envisioning something similar to Sarah McLachlan’s famous “Lilith Fair”, which took place during the Summers of 1997-to-1999, and briefly again in 2010. Este Haim says the dream line-up for a new all-female festival might include Swift, Lorde, Florence + The Machine, Jenny Lewis, and Chvrches.

SURPRISING USES FOR VODKA:
Multipurpose ways to use the stuff besides drinking it …
✓ All-Purpose Cleaner – As a natural disinfectant, all it takes is a quick transfer from liquor bottle to spray bottle to turn vodka into an amazingly powerful cleanser.
✓ Deodorizer – A spritz of vodka on your clothing, be it a musty old sweater or your favorite pair of gym shoes, can actually help freshen them up as it kills odor-causing bacteria on the spot.
✓ Mold & Mildew Remover – The best part? The cheaper the bottle, the less filtered it’s likely to be, which is good news when it comes to killing mold.
✓ Insect Repellent – Simply spray yourself with vodka. Just make sure it’s not one of the flavored, sugary kinds.
✓ Weed Killer – “Reader’s Digest” suggests mixing 1 ounce of vodka with 2 cups of water and a few drops of dish soap. Apply to weeds growing in direct sunlight; it won’t work in shade.
✓ Flower Life-Extender – A shot of vodka can be a vase full of flowers best friend, helping them stay fresh longer as it inhibits ethylene production in the water.
✓ Hair Treatment – Vodka is naturally acidic and when added to conditioner can help maintain and lower a high pH level in hair. That means more shine; less frizz and dandruff.

HOW DO YOU RATE?
The new ‘Peeple’ app for rating human beings is causing controversy … before it’s even launched. ‘Peeple’ allows members to give star ratings to people they know via the app, much as restaurants and hotels are rated on sites such as Yelp. The app’s developers say they will pre-screen for negative abuse. However, users will not be able to delete comments made about them. Nor will they be able to remove themselves from the site once on it. The app differs from existing social media in that it specifically encourages users to assess others. Negative reviews will be stalled 48 hours before being published, and will be banned if they contain degrading comments, hateful content, profanity, and racism. The app, due to launch in November, already has 5,000 members signed up for testing. (A new low in social media?)

THE LATEST FEAT:
‘Extreme Phone Pinching’ is possibly the most nerve-racking Internet craze yet. After all, what’s more stressful than gripping an expensive object over a cliff? Popularized by the music duo Twenty One Pilots back in July, ‘Extreme Phone Pinching’ involves holding your smartphone with your thumb and forefinger, and dangling it over somewhere you wouldn’t want it to fall … a cliff, atop a high-rise, over water, etc. And now the Internet has taken the ‘sport’ to the next level. People the world over are dangerously dangling their precious phones in all kinds of perilous places … over fire, out of moving vehicles, over sewer grates. (Seriously, if you value your 500-dollar investment, maybe give this activity a miss.)

WHY E-BOOKS ARE INFERIOR TO REAL BOOKS:
• E-Books Reduce Comprehension – A West Chester University study has found that students reading on iPads have lower reading comprehension than when they read printed books.
• You Remember Less About the Timeline – A study of adults finds that e-books can be hard to absorb, particularly when trying to put events from the story in chronological order.
• They’re Not Great as Textbooks – While e-textbooks are cheaper (and easier to carry), the majority of college students in some surveys say they prefer print books.
• They’re Tiring – Staring at a lit screen can be tiring for the eyes and the brain. A Swedish study has found that reading digitally requires a higher cognitive workload than reading paper.

Officials in Manila, where the average road commute takes over 45 minutes, say they are putting measures in place to improve the local situation.

BS THINGS ONLY CAT OWNERS UNDERSTAND ABOUT CATS:
• Cats will always think they rule the household. And that’s because they usually do.
• You can’t fight cat hair, you just have to accept it as part of your life.
• Cats have no concept of privacy and will insist on following you to the bathroom.
• If you don’t let them in, they will yowl outside the door; if you do let them in, they will yowl to be let out.
• Cats will want to eat whatever you’re eating, even if they don’t like it.
• Cats only seem to be awake between the hours of 5 and 7 am.
• They usually like to sleep where you are most likely to trip over them and fall to your death.
• Cats do not see feet as part of you, but as a separate creature … which needs to die.
• Despite being comparatively small, cats take up well over 50% of a bed. Or they will insist on sleeping directly on your face.
• When cats show you their bellies, there is a 50% chance they want it tickled … and a 50% chance they will bite your hand off if you touch them.
