★ TV action classic “MacGyver” (1985-92) is getting a revival as CBS-TV has officially put a new series into active development. The re-imagining of the series follows a 20-something ‘MacGyver’ as he gets recruited into a clandestine organization where he uses his knack for solving problems in unconventional ways to help prevent disasters from happening. The pilot is being helmed by “Furious 7” director James Wan. “MacGyver” joins a long list of older shows being dusted off and revived, including “The X-Files”, “Twin Peaks”, “Prison Break”, and “Heroes”.

★ 47-year-old Brit actor Daniel Craig says he doesn’t really care who next plays ‘James Bond’. While fans across the globe are speculating on who might next take on the identity of ‘Agent 007’, Craig isn’t preoccupied with the problem as “Spectre” is yet to be released and he still has a 5th film in his contract before he can consider retiring from the role. Quote: “The person should do the job and I don’t give a f— what color their skin is. It shouldn’t be an issue. A female is another story. But why not? ‘Jasmine Bond’?”

★ And sibling singing trio Haim are hoping to start their own music festival featuring only female artists. “The Wire” singers recently ended their trek as opening act for Taylor Swift’s “1989” tour, and now they’re envisioning something similar to Sarah McLachlan’s famous “Lilith Fair”, which took place during the Summers of 1997-to-1999, and briefly again in 2010. Este Haim says the dream line-up for a new all-female festival might include Swift, Lorde, Florence + The Machine, Jenny Lewis, and Chvrches.

• Don Henley – His new album “Cass County” will lead the “Billboard” country chart when it’s officially released later this week. It’s his 1st solo disc in 15 years.
• Garbage – Tonight in San Diego CA their “20 Years Queer Tour”, celebrating the band’s 20th anniversary, gets underway. Dates run though October 29th in Washington DC before the band heads to Europe. They’re performing their debut album in its entirety for the first time.
• Fetty Wap – His self-titled album has debuted at #1 on this week’s ‘Billboard 200’ chart. He’s had an impressive 2015 already, with three Top 10 singles before his album was even released.
• Pharrell Williams – His first children’s book is being published today by Penguin Random House, entitled “Happy!” (what else?). It’s based on his Oscar-nominated song of the same name and features photos of children representing numerous countries and cultures.
• Sara Bareilles – Today she releases her first book, “Sounds Like Me: My Life (So Far) In Song”, via Simon & Schuster. The book is a collection of personal essays which, among other things, tell the inside stories behind some of her most popular songs, including “Love Song”.

HOW DO YOU RATE?
The new ‘Peeple’ app for rating human beings is causing controversy … before it’s even launched. ‘Peeple’ allows members to give star ratings to people they know via the app, much as restaurants and hotels are rated on sites such as Yelp. The app’s developers say they will pre-screen for negative abuse. However, users will not be able to delete comments made about them. Nor will they be able to remove themselves from the site once on it. The app differs from existing social media in that it specifically encourages users to assess others. Negative reviews will be stalled 48 hours before being published, and will be banned if they contain degrading comments, hateful content, profanity, and racism. The app, due to launch in November, already has 5,000 members signed up for testing. (A new low in social media?)

• They’re Not Great as Textbooks – While e-textbooks are cheaper (and easier to carry), the majority of college students in some surveys say they prefer print books.
• They’re Tiring – Staring at a lit screen can be tiring for the eyes and the brain. A Swedish study has found that reading digitally requires a higher cognitive workload than reading paper.
