BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Alec Baldwin is picking up where he left off with the “Rust” movie, after he and the production team reached a settlement in the wrongful death lawsuit of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. In the agreement, the movie got a new executive producer — Hutchins’ husband. A statement from Matthew Hutchins says, in part: “The filming of Rust, which I will now executive produce, will resume with all the original principal players on board in January 2023…All of us believe Halyna’s death was a terrible accident. I am grateful that the producers and the entertainment community have come together to pay tribute to Halyna’s final work.” Halyna Hutchins, the film’s cinematographer, was killed on the set of the film nearly a year ago, after Baldwin fired a prop gun he was told was “cold”.

★ Brad Pitt is denying new allegations of abuse from Angelina Jolie. Tuesday, Jolie filed a countersuit in the ex-couple’s ongoing case regarding their French winery, and she included new claims describing the altercation on a 2016 private flight that led to the couple’s split. She said that Pitt “grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her…before pushing her into the bathroom wall.” The filing also alleges, “Pitt choked one of the children and struck another in the face.” But in a statement, a rep for Pitt said: “(Jolie’s) story continues to evolve each time she tells it with new, unsubstantiated claims. Brad has accepted responsibility for what he did but will not for things he didn’t do. These new allegations are completely untrue.”

★ Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen seem to be heading for the end zone: Both have retained divorce lawyers, according to multiple sources. The couple have been living separately for the past couple months following an epic fight — and they’re now apparently looking at dividing up their multimillion-dollar empire. One insider was quoted by Page Six as saying: “I never actually thought this argument would be the end of them, but it looks like it is. I don’t think there will be any coming back now.”. Reps for Brady and Bündchen did not respond to requests for comment.

★ In its second week atop the Netflix Top 10, “Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” has become one of Netflix’s biggest ever television series. The controversial Ryan Murphy limited series, which stars Evan Peters as the notorious serial killer, has racked up 300 million hours viewed during its second week on the service, putting it behind only “Stranger Things 4” as Netflix’s second most watched English-language series in a week. Netflix estimates the show has reached 56 million households. The streamer’s top series, “Squid Game,” reached 62 million households in the same timeframe.

SHOOTING THE BULL
HERE’S WHAT’S COOKIN’:
➢ A Japanese company has unveiled a new bread – with no crust! The vast majority of milk bread sandwiches made in Japan have their crusts removed, at the request of the consumer. That results in a lot of food waste, but Tokyo Chef Sugimoto and his team at the Imperial Hotel hope to change that with a new, innovative white crust shokupan bread — with no crust. No word on their secret, but they did let it slip that it is baked slowly at a lower temperature than regular shokupan bread, which results in a white color all the way through, and a moister texture. (They stand to make a lot of dough…)
➢ Here’s some spooky news for rice lovers: A new study has found that eating too much white rice is just as bad for your heart as eating too much Halloween candy. The report by researchers in Iran says the risk of early coronary artery disease from eating refined grains is similar to that of eating the kind of “unhealthy sugars and oils” found in sugary treats. Refined grains are processed into flour or meal to give them a finer texture and longer shelf life but lose some key nutrients. But whole grains, like brown rice oats and whole-wheat bread, contain the entire grain. (Uh, any chance of finding any “whole-wheat” Halloween treats?)

WALK THESE WAYS:
➠ For every 2,000 steps you take each day, your risk for premature death falls by 8-11%, according to research published in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine. Researchers found that walking more, accumulating up to about 10,000 steps a day, is linked to a reduction in the occurrence of cardiovascular disease (including heart disease, stroke and heart failure), 13 types of cancer and dementia. But better health isn’t all about step count. The researchers also found that walking at a faster pace helps ward off those same health concerns, beyond the benefit accrued for the number of daily steps. (Wow. I hope my dog’s sleeping now, cause we’re really going to be upping his walking game!)
➠ Apparently, not everyone is good at multitasking. A team from the University of Rochester Medical Center has found that walking can boost cognitive performance – but only for some people. Some young and healthy people performed better on a series of cognitive tasks while walking, while others did not. And oddly, there was no effective predictor of who would fall into which category. The study’s author says they had expected that all test subjects would respond similarly, but the study shows that it’s simply easier for some people to “dual task” than it is for others. (And this is why I spend my evenings on the couch…I’m much more likely to have a good idea!)

POKÉMON GOING, GOING, GONE!
The world’s largest Pokémon collection is expected to fetch a whopping £300,000 (US $343,000) at auction Oct. 18. An anonymous superfan spent 25 years building her collection, including more than 20,000 pieces of Japanese memorabilia, such as toys, cards, computer games and even themed toilet paper. The 33-year-old’s amazing collection was crammed into her home in England. She says her bedroom was bursting with hundreds of the anime cuddly toys, models, clothing, badges, flannels and posters. She was awarded a Guinness World Record in 2009 when her Pokémon collection reached 12,000 items, and it has since grown to more than 20,000. The proud owner, who is selling her “life’s work” for financial reasons, says at one point, her mother had to move from the largest to the smallest room in their house to make room for the possessions.
(No husband, huh?)
(That’s an interesting twist. I’ve heard of kids who just won’t move out…but I don’t think I’ve ever heard of one that forced their parents to move out!)

NAME A CELEBRITY NO ONE CAN DISLIKE:
An AskReddit thread posed that exact question, and here’s what people had to say…
✪ “Steve Buscemi. During 9/11, the man went down to his old firehouse and volunteered. A (blank) hero!”
✪ “Julie Andrews. I’ve met her, had a cup of tea with her in her house. Every bit as charming and as personable as you could ever imagine. The definition of a class act.”
✪ “John Candy. The warmth, love, and honesty he brought to all of his roles was second to none. If I die and go to heaven, it will be walking into a warm bar on a cold day and John turns to me with that big smile and offers me a beer and a seat next to him.”
✪ “Rick Moranis. I mean, the guy literally gave up his acting career to be a full time Stay-At-Home Dad when his wife died.”
✪ “LeVar Burton. Great actor, host of a treasured children’s show, and never involved in any kind of drama from what I can remember.”
✪ “Dolly Parton. She has an amazing sense of humor and is so approachable and kind. When there was a fire in Pigeon Forge TN and many were displaced, she gave families money for a certain amount of time.”
✪ “Keanu Reeves. He was at Comicon and the room adored him. Everything I’ve read or heard talking about him is positive.”
✪ (***Caution***) – “Mr. Rogers. Anyone in Pittsburgh will beat your a** for saying something negative about Fred Rogers. Even the nuns.”
(How about Paul Rudd? Tom Hanks? Betty White? Queen Elizabeth?)

DID YOU KNOW?
Eating dinner late at night raises your risk of becoming obese, according to a new study. Researchers from Brigham and Women’s Hospital say late-night eating reduces the burning of calories, increases hunger, and causes changes in fat tissue — all of which can contribute to weight gain. They found meals just before bedtime have profound effects on the appetite-regulating hormones leptin and ghrelin. These findings provide new insight on how late-night eating can also lead to chronic diseases.

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Mad Hatter Day”, described as ‘April Fool’s Day’ without the pranks, it’s an opportunity to celebrate silliness. The date was chosen from illustrations depicting the ‘Mad Hatter’ character from “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” wearing a hat with a slip of paper that reads: “In this style 10/6”.
• “German-American Day”, honoring the likes of Albert Einstein, Lou Gehrig, John Steinbeck, and Levi Strauss. In fact, German-Americans make up 17% of the US population (49 million). Prosit!
• “Physician Assistant Day”, honoring those nice people who order you to take off all your clothes and put the gown on. And make sure the opening is at the back!
• “Come and Take It Day”, a day to go out and take something that you’ve always wanted, or to defiantly say “come and take it” to someone who wants something from you that you don’t want to give up.
• “Noodle Day”, Can you believe that noodles have been around for over 4,000 years? They are popular all over the world and range in shape from flat, to round, to twisted, to sheets, to tubes, and many more. They can be made from rice, buckwheat, wheat, with or without eggs and even from zucchini.
• “Coaches Day”, Today, thank and honor a coach, either past or present, who made a positive impact on you or a loved one. If you are a coach, check in with those you work with, or those you have mentored.
• “Depression Screening Day”, Today, hospitals and other organizations, such as corporations, nursing homes, and colleges, host confidential depression and mental health screenings, in-person and online, and provide referrals and treatment information if needed.
• “World Cerebral Palsy Day”, when people come together to celebrate and support those living with CP, and help create a more accessible future. Cerebral Palsy affects more than 18 million people worldwide. LINK: https://worldcpday.org/
• “Garlic Lovers Day”, saluting the ‘stinking rose’ that has been cultivated as long as history has been recorded. A few stinky facts …
→ Over 5,000 years ago, Chinese herbalists used garlic to reduce blood pressure.
→ In Medieval times, it was believed that garlic worn as a necklace would stop your soul from leaving your body.
→ Spraying yourself with garlic oil will repel mosquitoes.
→ It’s said that if you rub a clove of garlic on your partner’s feet at night, you’ll taste it on his or her breath the next morning. (We wonder if the opposite is also true!)
